I believe that they say they prefer sprint because they are used it as it’s been here since Halo 4 and as an ability for Reach. 343 didn’t really bring in any new fans for Halo 4 and 5 so they are still a small portion of the current fan base that probably dislike the old Halo’s. I belive 343 should make a spin off game with Halo 5’s gameplay to satisfy the small 5% new Halo fans.

On the other hand, with sprint having been six years in Halo throughout three games, and 343i’s elaborations regarding why they consider sprint an important element, it’s not at all certain whether sprint will eventually follow the same path.

> > > > > Likewise, Spartan Abilities can be seen as a natural evolution of Armor Abilities in response to the issue with symmetric starts, which suggests that 343i definitely has a vision of giving an extended range of movement abilities to the player. I think it’s fair to say that it’s almost certain Spartan Abilities will go through some significant changes going towards Halo 6—no new mechanic has ever remained completely unchanged, after all. Perhaps they will get more streamlined. At any rate, there’s no reason to expect that Spartan Abilities would be completely gone in Halo 6.

Therefore I can only assume that you’ve just made these up in your head based on what you assume that you know. I also explained why they Battlefield 4 population doesn’t really tell how many players Halo 5 has at peak time (at it best suggests what the range that number might be in) here in order to direct the population discussion where it belongs.

> > Those numbers aren’t made up in my head lol it’s pretty much a fact.

> A statement without source or justification to its truthfulness is, by definition, not a fact.
Based on Halo Tracker, the highest population ranked playlist had 200,000 unique players over within the last CSR division. They say they track up to 360k people as well. However just because someone played a few times does not mean they are active. In each of the playlists, about 80,000 people are unranked, meaning they played less than 10 games.
Based on statistics from xbox a few weeks ago (before Gears 4 released), I found one game right behind Halo 5 that was at about 100,000 unique users per month, so Halo 5 likely has between 150k-100k unique users monthly.
Looking at those numbers, and how much the population seems to be divided between social, ranked, and warzone (plus customs and forge), I would say it’s a safe bet that at any given time a playlist would not have more than a few thousand people on it, especially when it’s not peak.
It seems possible that there are even times in the day when there are only 15,000 players on the game total. I would not say that is a regular occurrence, and that would obviously not be during peak.
With that said, I had two major reasons for leaving Halo 5:
A) Lack of split screen (can’t play with wife and friends)
B) Sprint.
Halo 5 just does not offer the gameplay I want when I get home from a 14 hour shift. If I want a game like that, I’ll pop in CoD and play some multiplayer and zombies there, not from Halo. I suspect that many players feel the same way. Halo 4 and 5 offer gameplay that is more similar to CoD and Battlefield, and while it has a superior sandbox, I feel that halo’s ttk is not superior with the current movement type.
Generalizing the (fps) experience (like the changing of several guns like the Rocket Launcher to be more modern and new movement systems), with the poor sales of the xbox one in comparison to the PS4 seems to be the largest thing to impact Halo right now. Halo was meant to be a system seller, but MCC was a mess, making more casual gamers less likely to purchase the next game because of all the bad PR surrounding it. Now as good as Halo 5 looks, people are going to be less willing to invest money into it.
Think of it this way: Most of us probably do not have a PS4, so would you go buy a PS4 to buy No Man’s Sky? Probably not. But next year, No Man’s Sky 2 comes out, and all the problems from No Man’s Sky 1 are completely fixed. It’s receiving fairly good scores when it launches, but you still remember the PR from the first one. Are you going to buy a PS4 and No Man’s Sky 2?
So now 343 has a population that dwindles more quickly during their reign than it did during Bungies because of these issues. Basically while you can still get the more casual players to drop money on it, it may be harder. So they may want to focus on the hardcore fans now. But MCC burned a lot of hardcore anti-sprint fans, and many more have lost faith in the series after Halo 5’s campaign. The gameplay may be balanced, but it isn’t what they want (like me). Why should they keep a 100gb game installed on their harddrive, and why should they expect better from Halo 6? Leaving 343 the best option of sticking to their guns and going after new players who like CoD and battlefield instead of going back to the series old fans.
I want sprint gone, but I don’t see 343 going back on it, despite a 661 page thread arguing about it.
