I’ve noticed that this discussion has been very population focused on the last page, which isn’t really related to sprint. So, if we want to keep discussing the popularity of Halo 5, I suggest that we should move towards the Halo 5 Population Discussion Thread, and keep this thread for discussing the sprint ability in Halo 5. H5 sprint is the best compromise that you are going to get and to be honest it’s probably one of the best sprinting mechanics in a game. It doesn’t recharge shields when sprinting and you put yourself at risk sprinting around like an idiot instead of taking your time and planning things out. If you don’t want to sprint that’s fine you don’t have to.

I don’t think you’re going to convince him with these statistics you made up from who knows where that you keep on repeating.
On one hand, there have certainly been mechanics that have come and gone due to what could be claimed to be community pressure—such as reticle bloom, loadouts, and Armor Abilities to name a few. On the other hand, with sprint having been six years in Halo throughout three games, and 343i’s elaborations regarding why they consider sprint an important element, it’s not at all certain whether sprint will eventually follow the same path.
Likewise, Spartan Abilities can be seen as a natural evolution of Armor Abilities in response to the issue with symmetric starts, which suggests that 343i definitely has a vision of giving an extended range of movement abilities to the player. I think it’s fair to say that it’s almost certain Spartan Abilities will go through some significant changes going towards Halo 6—no new mechanic has ever remained completely unchanged, after all. Perhaps they will get more streamlined. At any rate, there’s no reason to expect that Spartan Abilities would be completely gone in Halo 6.

Sprint is needed to compete in h5, if you don’t sprint another will reach power weapons faster. So not using it isn’t an option, it’s something people need to learn cuz many would love to not use it but not if it handicaps themselves. Second, adding panalties to a mechanic that punishes the user isn’t much of a comprise as that shows the mechanic (sprint) won’t work as intended. I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again, halo sprint is the only version I can think of that punishes you for using it and there are other things sprint in h5 does that you missed.m, such as getting knocked out of it if you don’t get top speed and shot at. Sprint having those punishments have been unappealing to pro and anti sprinters, again, it’s not a good comprise, the best comprise is for 343 to decide what they really want their game to be rather than trying to teeter in the middle. Youveither scrap sprint, or you make it actually work with the game with major overhaul to its gameplay cuz the current setup won’t work.

I see that you’re new to this discussion, so let me explain why this is a silly argument. This argument is, in essence, equivalent to saying “don’t use that weapon” if someone complains that a weapon is overpowered. The weapon will exist in its current state regardless of if I use the weapon or not, and as such it will keep on impacting my gameplay experience even if I don’t use it. Likewise, if I don’t like sprint, my problems don’t go away by simply not sprinting, because the problem has never been that I can sprint, but that everyone can sprint.

I only use sprint moderately getting to places and out of tight spots quickly and I haven’t had an issue with the penalties. I also would prefer a sprintless Halo to a full on sprinting Halo but if you play the game intelligently your sprinting penalties will be nuanced and you can punish people who don’t play intelligently.
