And if one likes the illusion of sprint, there are multiple alternatives that could replace sprint and give us the illusion of speed which the OP listed in 4 points. The one which I particularly liked the most was increasing the FOV, and looking at videos and also testing it out in Halo: Online and Halo 5: Forge (PC) it really gives you the feeling of moving around your surroundings faster.

> When it comes to the 2 points of “canon > gameplay/excitement & franticness” while it’s subjective, we have to keep in mind that this is a video game, and while certain things can be in canon (and would make sense to be in the game) or provide excitement, they can also potentially ruin the gameplay and thus rendering them inappropriate to have them in this certain game.

> For the “I enjoy sprint and that’s all that matters” argument, it’s just simply false. Especially if you’re the one developing a game. While fun is an important factor, there are also other factors as important as fun such as balance. Something can be fun on paper, but it can’t work then it can’t or shouldn’t be implemented.
>
> For the immersion argument, it’s something that I’d personally rather ignore.
The fundamental problem is that you’re discriminating arguments based on some arbitrary personal, subjective notion of “good”. Whether someone agrees with the points you made ultimately comes down to whether they find your points persuasive enough. But if they don’t, you haven’t really changed anything with your argument why certain defenses of sprint aren’t “good” in your opinion.
There’s this weird metadiscussion about the subjectiveness and objectiveness of arguments that I’m glad to see more people acknowledging the existence of. And the inevitable conclusion of it is that there is nothing fundamentally “bad” or “good” about any arguments (or else you could use less subjective terms than “bad” and “good” to descrbie the quality of these arguments). It’s just a matter of how appealing you personally find them.
What I think gets lost to most people in this discussion is who they are trying to convince with their arguments. It’s easy to convince yourself that you’re trying to explain to other people why they are wrong, but if you pay any attention to how people structure their arguments, it’s clear that everyone is projecting themselves on the audience, and then try to convince themselves that they are right.

You have a solid point. I personally enjoy sprint. BUT, it would be interesting to have an option in campaign to turn it off, and maybe see a playlist of two from a “non-sprint” game type. It would bring that… original Halo feel back.

No it wouldn’t. The weapons are designed around spartan abilities. Guns have lower TTK and are much easier to use. This wouldn’t bring the old feel back it would honestly be worse than the core gameplay.
If they want to bring the old Halo feel back they need to design a game around No Sprint. Weapons and maps are designed different in Halo 5 changing the gameplay. The main reason Halo has declined since Halo 4. It’s like a new game with a similar feel, like comparing titanfall and cod.

Halo has been in a decline since Reach. 5 is starting to bting it back but bigger, better things need to be done.

We need to force change for Halo 6. Bring the series back to it’s roots and build a Halo game off of he strengths and stop changing gameplay

343 seems very opposed to classic halo, they scrapped that build that they deemed “too traditional” even though users found it very fun.
This discussion started to not actually talk about sprint… But, hey. I will still state my opinion. With all the armor mods, I actually do think sprint should be removed(Upgarded Thrusters, mostly, but some others). I mean, you shouldn’t be able to sprint and recharge shields… just no! You make so you have to stop sprinting to recharge shields, but then… you add something so you can sprint and recharge.

A “bad” argument is one that does not achieve its intended goal, as I assume arguments are presented for a purpose.
I think for some, the purpose is to be argumentative, in which cases these opinionated and hostile posts are doing a great job.

To be fair: Who were these users? What exactly was included in this “traditional” build? Was it multiplayer? Campaign? Which weapons? Enemies? Maps?
No specifics were mentioned.
Given 343’s track record in terms of honesty, this could just as well be a tall tale.
As of now, we have no proof that 343 is even capable of making a traditional Halo game. The “classic” playlists were anything but, Halo Online needed to be retroactively modded to provide classic gameplay… maybe H2A is a slight indicator, but it had only multiplayer, no singleplayer (Campaign was copypasted, so it doesn’t count) and even the online mode was sub-par at best.
EDIT: Scratch that. Halo Online and H2A MP aren’t from 343. So we don’t even have the slightest indication that 343 is capable of creating a classic Halo game, besides word of mouth from one of the most unreliable sources in the industry.

In halo 5 your shields dont recharge if your sprint, im not sure which halo your talking about.

In all honesty, I’d be okay with or without sprint. I’d rather have Halo 2 remastered again except it’s not messed up because of MCC. I’d even play H3A if it comes out and that’s my 4th like Halo.
I’m alright with sprint being in the game, but not at the cost of a sluggish movement speed like we have now. If it is one or the other, I would much rather have a faster base movement speed instead, because as of now, it’s way too slow.

It isn’t slow. The maps are designed around no sprint anyway so moving at that speed makes sense for gameplay and lore.

Sure it is, when I am going at a normal pace it’s akin to going through mud. CE and Halo 2 were noticeably faster-paced, and it made both games more enjoyable.
The maps are designed with sprint in mind, the maps would be very flawed if they didn’t design their maps and not take into account player movement - both base movement and sprint. The maps would be broken if they didn’t.
Gameplay supercedes lore in a video game, so designing the gameplay solely around lore is a foolish direction to take.
Halo 6 will probably have original Halo gameplay. Most people that bought Halo 5 dislike the direction and have probably little interest in a game that builds off it. (Population proves this. And people always bash on 343 and halo 5)
There are still about half of the remaining fans base (which is very small) that are in favor of no sprint Halo aka real Halo lmao. most fans that prefer sprint are old fans that will accept a Halo game with the original gameplay. I believe that they say they prefer sprint because they are used it as it’s been here since Halo 4 and as an ability for Reach. 343 didn’t really bring in any new fans for Halo 4 and 5 so they are still a small portion of the current fan base that probably dislike the old Halo’s. I belive 343 should make a spin off game with Halo 5’s gameplay to satisfy the small 5% new Halo fans.
