> H5G has sold around 2.5 Million copies less than even ODST. With 60$ per copy (In the US, that is. Here in Europe, I’m paying 80€ for any new game release) that alone accounts for 150 Million Dollars less revenue than the next-best-selling Halo title, which even was a spinoff-title. The difference only gets worse when you compare it to Halo 4 or Reach. Those few bucks from Reqs are peanuts compared to that.

I have played Halo 5, I just haven’t bought it. Just because I don’t play Halo 5, that doesn’t mean sprint doesn’t effect me. Halo 5 has sprint and sprint has problems, hence why I don’t play Halo 5 which is exactly the effect it has on me. That’s why this topic suggests removing sprint for Halo 6. I want to buy and like Halo 6 and there’s very little chance of that happening with sprint. That’s why people continually point out it’s problems and why this topic exists and has over a thousand replies. Fixing problems is a good thing.

i think the problem is not sprint, in this case the problem is sitting in front of your screen

Or it has over a 1,000 replies of people for sprint.

The sole reason for maps to be that size nowadays is to make them feel bigger, that’s it.

Why is it that, for instance crossing Haven with sprint and mobility net you about the same time as crossing Guardians from Halo 3? Or the same cases for Truth vs Midship, which was linked earlier in this thread? Can you provide something that state maps are bigger to make them feel bigger? Because I can certainly provide you with a link to where map designers for Halo 4 imply maps are larger due to default sprint.

By how I read the article, they make adjustments of the maps because they want it to play a certain way. They have a specific mindset on where they want players to move. That has no bearing solely on the sprint mechanic. Again that is how I read it. Sprint’s sole purpose is to speed up gameplay, not to make maps bigger. If they want you to get to a point of the map in a designated amount of time, they will. The same effect would happen if they removed sprint and increased base movement speed. And in all honesty, I think they made Truth to big of a map, and not because of sprint. They overcompensated on that map.

Just in case no one has responded to this yet, that wasn’t a direct quote from the developers. It was the person writing the article. I could not find anything that said a 343i dev mention map elongation due to sprint.

I’ll just say this, so don’t take it the wrong way, but the very fact that you have to point this out and explain that there have already been reports shows that it should be locked already. Many threads have been locked for less, so there must be a reason this particular thread is still open.

While I do prefer no sprint, I don’t see it as a big deal. Most of the time I don’t sprint, and I’m fine. It’s like when people were made about halo 2(halo2sucks.com) there were A LOT of people who were really mad about halo 2, but now it’s looked at as one of the best halos. As much as I would like classic movements back, OP, sometimes we just have to deal with change (except that god-awful Spartan charge).

> As they say, they have certain metrics that they follow, distances in terms of time, line-sights and so forth.
> So no, it’s not only sprint, the idea behind the map plays a large role in that. Also, I don’t think even 343 said sprint’s “sole purpose” is to speed up gameplay, which to my knowledge also has been contradicted. Moving on from that, I never said sprint was implemented to make bigger maps, but smaller maps are bigger as a side-effect of sprint based on their metrics. As you said, if they want to get players to a point in a designated time, they will do so by looking at how the player travel, how fast that is and calculate the distance they needed to make it in that time. Hence compared to previous titles, maps have grown to accommodate sprint speed.
>
> Truth is timewise about the same size as Midship, a mod posted a link earlier in this thread to a post where he had made a test.
> Another test was made long ago, which is now burried so deep I have no will to go look for it. But that was Halo 4 Haven vs Halo 3 Guardian, essentially the same results time wise. Sprint held about the same time in map traversal as Guardian.

In fact, the only reason it is ridiculous, is because you can actually do it in H5, I do it around corners and stuff (not when crouching), but there’s no reason for it to be used as an argument against sprint.
>

> Who said anything about moving slowly? Sprint isn’t the only way to increase the speed of a player.
I again don’t know if anyone has responded to this, but the reason these maps seem so big is due to all the new movement mechanics. The whole point of this thread is to blame one mechanic on how the maps are and how this one plays. You and I are truly on the same page here, I’m just trying to point out that sprint isn’t the sole reason for things in this game. And I also want to point out that if you were to increase base movement speed to the current top speed, it would have the same result as sprint and the other movement mechanics. It would also play completely different to what we are use to, even compared to the original trilogy days.

ODST sold over 6.3 Million copies, H5G sold around 4. No idea where you get that five million figure.

The maps sizes are just fine and don’t NEED to be elongated to accompany a mechanic like sprint. That has got to be one of the worst arguements aganist sprint out there right now.

I don’t think it matters either way. The maps are elongated all the same. If these maps were in a game without sprint then it would cause a bunch of pacing issues. Without sprint, maps are made smaller and with sprint, maps are made larger. It would be even worse if they did the opposite way (sprint on small maps and no sprint on large maps).

If we’re going to use Over watch as an example of a “sprintless” game, you also have to include what Overwatch does have, not just what it is lacking. It also has classes - characters with unique abilities. It’s not even close to an apples to apples comparison. It’s a completely different thing altogether.

Personally, I don’t think it’s the fault of Halo, but due to the success of other games. Maybe Halo just isn’t popular anymore. Times change and tastes change. People move on. I don’t listen to hair metal from the 80’s or grunge from the 90’s anymore. There’s much more new and exciting things that grab my interest.

> I really hope that you do get the game you want. I truly do. One that hearkens back to the heyday or golden age of Halo. No sprint, no abilities, equal starts, no clamber or charge, BR starts, whatever. I’ll still play it. I still love Halo. Why I want to see it happen is because I’m genuinely curious as to how that game will fair in this market and time period. The market has grown considerably, and there are more games than ever. Holding market attention is no mere feat. There has to be something unique to your product to hold an audience. Something your competition doesn’t have. Halo was a pioneer in this respect, bringing fps to console. Now? I’m curious if a modernized version of the classic can hold it’s ground without any of the things these forums lament so much.

> We spend so much time debating what needs to be removed to make it like the old days. Maybe it has nothing with any of that. Maybe there are just other and new alternatives that people want to play? I don’t know. I think we spend way too much time wrapping ourselves around the axle about how to capture the past in the present.
I completely agree with you. I’m not one of them complaining about sprint. I’ve always wanted it sprint

I know that, but this only applies to a certain extent and i’m pretty sure within 1,2k replies there was already enough room for everyone’s opinion, now it just becomes people repeating themselves over and over again and hating on eachother because of different opinions, therefore it’s becoming nonsense.

So that people who intentionally want to kill this thread succeed?
Great, then from now on, people will just flood every thread they don’t like with spam in order to get rid of it.

> All Promethean weapons are modular, meaning you get a basic promethean weapon, say a bolt shot that shoot only straight and then you need to find Promethean Modules with different attributes to “upgrade” your weapon, and it can only hold a set amount of modules. For instance, pick up a Rapid module and a Seeker module and you’d have a Suppressor rifle. A Scatter module and a bounce module and you have a Scatter Shot. A Seeker Module and a Scatter module would have a shotgun firing seeking projectiles. A Rapid module and bounce module would make a Suppressor that fire non-seeking but bouncing projectiles.

> Health implemented again, but regenerating to an extent. You need to have Biofoam stored to be able to regenerate health, and biofoam depletes at an increased rate the more health damage you’ve taken. So, if you for instance regenerate 10 points of health it could require 5 points of biofoam, but regenerate 20 points and it would need 15 points. Biofoam can be picked up from the map, and shared with team mates.

See here is the meat and potatoes of what this thread should be, though if the point was something completely new we did slightly miss the mark. However, I think the lack of interactive environments is partly the reason maps seem dule. Truthfully, even if they remove just sprint and Spartan charge we may still see dule maps.
I actually like sprint, especially in Warzone. It makes a everything much MUCH faster, improved gameplay and a more in-depth experience. I don’t know why everyone hates sprint so much considering if you to walk in an actual firefight, you will be a very easy target and die very often. Sprint gives the player a better way to improve their gameplay and get to better and more strategic ways to take down enemies. In Halo: REACH, I hated how you had to get sprint as an armor ability and be limited to all the others even though RUNNING is a trait everyone should have. Halo 5 is one of the best feeling and best innovated Halo games I have ever played, and I and truly hope Halo 6 most definitely has sprint.
