I’ve seen that video before as well. I don’t know what the deal is, but my results have been consistent over multiple measurements, both on OG Xbox, 360 as well as XBone.
Lastly, we already know for a fact that Halos 1, 2 and 3 had the same movement speed from the game files.
Halo CE: 2.25 WU/s.
Halo 3: 2.25WU/s.
Reach: 2.2WU/s.
This perfectly agrees with my data, as 7/2.25*2.2=6.84.
I can only assume that the Halo 3 Spartan arrives slightly later due to a lower acceleration, or the video is just out of sync.

Another thing to note is that the course run on Halo 3 isn’t entirely flat but has small small bumps that can decrease the overall speed just slightly…

They’ve tried Sprint 3 times. Reach had maps that were built around no sprint and it didn’t feel right. Halo 4 the maps were build around Sprint. Halo 5 they tried balancing Sprint. There isn’t much they can do, Sprint has failed 3 times it’s Time to take it out.

I know and I agree, I’m just saying I don’t see 343 doing it cuz they’re to stubborn to abandon it.

Maybe he/she meant that if the weapons are designed around sprinting, then they aren’t designed around strafing. I don’t know if it’s true. Just my guess on what he/she meant. Oh, and I do not know what “uneven engagements” mean.
I hope you understand that the disadvantages of “running away”(shields not recharging until they have stopped sprinting, flinching and making the player stop sprinting when they are getting shot) make no difference once the target manages to get to cover. If the target gets behind cover, its free to run away, with no-one being able to chase it.
I also disagree with the draw-back of not having sprint. Isn’t this something that could be fixed with smaller maps, a better starting weapon or faster movement speed(things that CE had, excluding the faster movement speed)? And isn’t this unfair to the target? Or why not just walk the distance?

In scale the BMS is slower, so your actual combat speed is lower, so strafing is most definitely affected. Seeing as you can’t move as fast or maneuver as well without having to sprint, so you can’t fight back or move in any direction except forward.

I was about to note that. Compared to the other three, the Halo 3 run is very bumpy. Between 20-40 seconds you can see some big bumps and some strafe action going on. Even then, Halo 3 only arrives slightly later, like a fraction of a second. Where as Halo Reach was clearly slower, though still not slow. I think just confirms Celestis’ data that Halo 3’s travel speed was just as fast as previous Halos.
yeah, uh, removing sprint will only make the sprint haters happy for a minute and shortly after they redirect the hate towards something else that dosen’t fit in the Halo 2/3 mold.
the other side is that a new Halo without sprint will not draw or maintain a healthy population.
people talk about other successful games that are sprintless but the thing is that those games are abnormalities and are very different mechanically from how Halo plays.
Hey, everyone! Arc Trooper is back with another proposal that will most likely get shot down because many can’t compromise lol.
What if (drumroll please), sprint was removed from certain arena playlists, but it stayed in BTB, Warzone, and one sprint arena playlist? Yes, things like thrust and stabilizers will still be active, but this is a thread for removing sprint, not Spartan abilities. Also, once you hold the energy sword or gravity hammer, sprint would turn on for you. For games like grifball, action sack, and infection, sprint doesn’t really matter (and I actually like it better when sprint is in those playlists), but for things like team arena, team slayer, FFA, swat, etc. there would be no sprint. So what do you think?

What if there are people who dislike sprint but only play btb? It’s not much of a comprimise really as it’s going to bother people from both sides. Take anti-sprint with btb, then take pro-sprint with no sprint in slayer or objectives. You simply can’t design half a game for one group and the other half a another group, that’s to much work for 343 (and most devs would agree) and if you ask me as a fan that’s to much of a comprimise as it compromises the game itself. The only comprimise is 343 to either stick with sprint or completely remove it, a 50/50 game will not work, people will not pay full price for only a select playlist out of an entire game and then expect that value to be returned, especially with a 343 game with 343s rep.
its not because people can’t comprimise, it’s that it’s not a good comprimise for both sides. I thought about this both ways, not just one sided. When you split playlists like that you have to design maps to fit those settings, the weapon balance is also effected in the process and people don’t need to memorize multiple settings.

I’m not saying half be classic and half be modern. All the Spartan abilities would stay, but there’d be no sprint in most arena playlists. You wouldn’t have to design some maps with sprint and some without or change the weapon balance or anything. The one sprint arena playlist would probably work with the same maps. If it doesn’t, then we can forge maps. Nothing needs to be tweaked in any way. The guys who play BTB honestly shouldn’t care that there’s sprint. It is needed in BTB, but not in arena. For the guys who need sprint in arena, they would have their sprint arena playlist. Trust me, this can work.

(Bold) You just don’t and can’t know that.
And your last sentence doesn’t make any sense (no offence). “Old” Halo games constitute an irrefutable and self-explanatory proof that Halo mechanics combined with no sprint can be, no just successful, but highly successful. Whether this would still be true these days could possibly be up to debate if you want, but the past record clearly does not lean towards your claim. Factually, it would be quite the opposite.

So an argument to not remove sprint is that “sprint haters” will find something else either way?
Way to pool together people based on an opinion regarding one mechanic.
Way to go explaining to us that we apparently only can “hate” one thing at a time.

I so love comments like this because it implies that no matter what changes are made to halo, no matter the additions, mechanic tweaks and so forth. As long as it does not have sprint, it’ll crash and burn, 100% for sure.

Or why not just increase the FOV or the BMS? Want the illusion of speed that sprint gives off? An increase in FOV would do just that. Want to actually get around faster? Increase the BMS while retaining the average original map size. Also, we can call vehicles in Warzone and there are a ton of vehicles usually in BTB.

But a compromise like that makes gameplay inconsostent over the playlists.
Why would we need sprint for specific playlists when we could increase BMS and/or FoV? While on top of that introduce more means of faster map traversal for players on foot like Portals, Teleporters, Man cannons, conveyor belts and then some?
Why do you want sprint? We can’t discuss a compromise if we do not have atleast two points to go from.

I would be fine without sprint as well if stuff like portals, teleporters were added but i dont like the bms or fov increase, removing sprint automatically removes spartan charge and side,)cause you cant do either of those moves without sprinting).Unfortunately some of halo 5’s maps/structures are stretched out for sprint. However we can still keep clamber to get to certain positions

Why? A slight increased BMS would make it slightly faster, coupled with a good acceleration and it gets responsive. Add to that a larger FoV and you not only get a better awareness of what’s infront of you but you also seem to go faster. FoV has been decreased a lot since the early 2000.
Removing sprint from Halo 5 would remove slide and Spartan Charge, that however would not hold true to a Halo 6 without sprint as both those could easily be implemented without sprint.
Clamber does not allow you to reach certain positions that weren’t supposed to be reached. We can do without clamber as well.

Increase the BMS while retaining the average original map size. Also, we can call vehicles in Warzone and there are a ton of vehicles usually in BTB.
