Dude. it literally has random spread elements programmed into it. Bungie even posted an entire weekly update blog about it. What you said about movement and spread just isn’t true at all.

It’s not as bad as some people let on, but it definitely negatively impacted the game.

But I never did…

Maybe if you weren’t so hostile you would notice that I don’t want sprint in Halo. All I was pointing out was that the H3 BR had pretty bad spread and the netcode was bad. Saying it has to do with leading shots is, in fact, incorrect.
H3 BR vs H2 BR

I’ve adapted just fine, that doesn’t remove the fact it completely breaks maps and gameplay

Why are you even here. You clearly didn’t play halo 3, Google a picture of the BR recycle, it’s much larger than the h5 one and even when standing still it has spread. It has nothing to do with the direction your moving.

It makes the game feel more fluid. Yeah, H2/3 will always hold a special place for me - H3 especially, but times change. People complain of low population now, can you imagine if 343 had cloned H3? The hardcore would love it, but the general gamer wouldn’t and these are the ones that pump money into our beloved franchise.

True, but u still think halo 2 had a Polish to the physics along with the button glitches that made it really fun to watch. still it’s subjective and I do love to watch high level halo ce as well

I personally find hce really fun to watch because it’s a much more cerebral game than h2 or 3. It’s just really rare that you get a chanice to actually watch it played at a high level.

Throwing my vote in for no sprint.

I had always thought Halo 3 had a rise in the barrel. So there was spread but it wasn’t random, it just put the last bullet higher than the first.

Halo 3 also had projectile bullets instead of Hitscan ones. Meaning there was a certain amount of leading with the shots needed. Even more so when the connection was bad.

There was a very valid reason for Bungie to adjust the Halo 2 BR though. They did this to stop the cross mapping with the BR and host advantage that happened in Halo 2. Halo 3’s BR spread was to allow finishing headshots and pinging with the initial bullet of the 3-round burst, without all 3 shots hitting every time and allowing the BR to dominate at long range. Ironic, considering all the crying about Classic Halo being “a one weapon game” (the BR) Halo 3 was the only one to actively give the BR noticeable spread to reduce its dominance outside of its intended range, while still allowing it to fulfil its roll as a utility weapon.

So, yeah I agree for a H3A, the netcode needs fixing, and even the BR spread needs adjusting. But I personally wouldn’t remove spread entirely. I’d just keep it consistent and only noticeable at longer ranges (I’d even include a DMR as a pick up to highlight the fact the BR isn’t a long range weapon)

http://halo.bungie.net/news/content.aspx?cid=14347It’s worth noting that in this update Lukems, mentions that the Halo 2 BR had spread too, but was reduced. But in here he also covers the reason for the changes and hitscan vs velocity/projectile.

There’s a million better ways to reduce the effective range of the BR without having to resort to randomness.

If you fire a gun whilst moving the bullet spread is going to be different, on lan the h3 br was perfect. the most skilled 1v1 fights in any Halo. If we had h3a with dedicated servers we will have a perfect competitive game again. Bring back the medal voice overs from 3 as well when the guy didn’t sound awful. Actually bring back the halo 3 medals as well. The sniper headshot medal was the most satisfying medal ever!!!

Can they just make h3a have it work day 1 then the can -Yoink- off and do whatever they want for the tiny community of h5 fans.

Well yeah, that’s what I’m advocating. Like the barrel rise so that the spread is a constant vertical line instead of any type of random element. And then of course only have that vertical spread be noticeable behind medium-long range.

> How are people still talking about sprint? Adapt, overcome… enjoy.

This is one of the worst buzz phrases ever. Worse than “it’s just your opinion” but of course not as bad as “just don’t play it”. You seem to simply select from the most common phrases and thinking that the solution is simply the matter of “adapting”. You aren’t even considering what you’re responding to with this phrase. Look, Halo has had modern elements for about 7 years or so now. It’s clearly not a matter of simply adapting. This is just a stupid statement people use because someone dislikes something you like.

Can we change Halo to a 3rd person shooter? Do we remove the campaign and leave it a multiplayer game only? Do we add wall running, Titans, special abilities, etc? Forget the problems that such additions might compound! Forget the fact that it will no longer be like Halo anymore? Just adapt! Yeah, that’s definitely the solution.

“I’ve been playing Halo since CE”

You know that literally is just an empty statement? Just because you’ve played Halo since CE means nothing. It doesn’t make your opinion superior to others. I’ve started at 3 in 2009, a little bit late, but does it matter? No. I’m still very dedicated to this franchise. People, just stop saying this.

“I fully understand that it’s a change, but this is how things happen in life - they change.”

No. This not a rule. This is simply your excuse. Things don’t have to always necessarily change, and changing things isn’t one direction. There are multiple and better ways that Halo could “change” and “evolve” without adding sprint.

“I actually enjoy sprint. It makes the game feel more fluid.”

So I can do anything I want with Halo as long as it’s fluid?

“People complain of low population now, can you imagine if 343 had cloned H3? The hardcore would love it, but the general gamer wouldn’t and these are the ones that pump money into our beloved franchise.”

Well yes, of course, we already played Halo 3. But aside from that, your argument is nothing but an assumption. Once 343i makes a Halo 3 clone that is fully functioning, we’ll talk. But we shouldn’t. Why? Because it’s a Halo 3 clone and we’ve already played Halo 3.

“As drastic as it sounds - without sprint and these new features, Halo would most likely die off because only the hardcore dedicated fans would buy it.”

Again, just an assumption. We hadn’t had a Halo game without modern elements since 2007. And what do you know? I actually believe people love unique games. Also, DOOM doesn’t have sprint and it revived the series. I personally believe if 343i makes a Halo game that’s true to its roots, and make the best of it they can, Halo would do well.

I’ve always found the “adapt and overcome” rebuttal to be a bit pointless, myself. Any game sequel/prequel in a series has the introduction of new ideas and mechanics in addition to the continuation of previous ones, some that people like, others they do not. It’s not about the adapt and overcome part… seriously… those few who simply couldn’t adapt have been long gone, have the most frustrating gaming sessions imaginable, and/or may just be masochists that game for the wrong reasons. It’s about the “enjoy” part. I can adapt and overcome just fine too, but just because I can doesn’t mean enjoying will ever happen.

I mean, if they had removed sprint for H5, does anyone think there wouldn’t be complaint threads here? Of course there would. Does anyone think there wouldn’t be people saying how Halo is now broken, slow, not Halo anymore and etc. etc.? The fence would still stand, the arguments would just switch sides. And the “adapt and overcome” comment could be wielded from the other side of the fence in that case just as easily… which makes it less an argument and more of an attempt to dismiss one IMO.

It means that you don’t have the same experience that he does, as you didn’t experience those games in their prime. Someone who started with halo 5 would naturally say that sprint is good, because people naturally don’t like change and they never experienced that style of gameplay so they don’t know how it would play. Just like anything else, having more experience makes you more fit to speak on a topic.

I’ve been complaining about sprint for 5 years now. It does not belong in Halo.

I remember the first teaser for sprint in Reach. It was like watching a loved one being diagnosed with cancer.

That’s mighty dramatic. I would recommend finding a better analogy. Cancer isn’t comparable to a video game adding a different ability.

It kinda works, I mean it started out small with limited sprint then it got worse, became unlimited the cancer grew, now we must cut it out to save halo. see its not that dramatic
