Reach was/is great, I’d give anything if 5 or 6 were like it.

Ya, gane breaking AAS, random bloom and unbelievably slow movement. What a masterpiece.

It is only considered one of the best Halo games by people who didn’t play the original trilogy, were too young to remember it, or people who don’t understand or care about Halo as an arena shooter.

Reach had an immense amount of features and content in it and it all worked. That’s what it had going for it.

I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again: Reach was NOT a good game in terms of balance. It’s multi-player attempted to appeal to an audience that cared little for balance to begin with.

It tried to appeal to people that didn’t enjoy Halo because of its balanced, skillful mechanics. It attempted to adopt the modern instant gratification formula and it didn’t work. It alienated long time Halo fans and those it tried to reel in were too busy indulging themselves in CoD Black Ops.

Meh the gameplay sucked hard and story was subpar but you have to admit customization, ui, art, decent campaign, upgraded forge and the sheer amount of content the game had atleast somewhat made up for it.

Overall its not a particularly good halo but it isn’t trash either.

Like I said, OR people who don’t understand or care for Halo as an arena shooter. It’s multi-player was horribly imbalanced and it showed.

I’m not saying 3, 4, or 5 are perfect or don’t have blemishes. They do and I could go on for days concerning those. But changing your utility weapon to an RNG based rifle while at the same time introducing mechanics that break map control, negate power weapons, defeat lines of sight, and being the first Halo game to introduce vehicles made out of paper mache.

Yeah, it has glaring flaws in the game play coming from the perspective of a balanced arena shooter.

I wonder when pro sprinters will begin to realize the reasoning for why sprint is able to work in other games but not halo, in regards to the foundation it’s gameplay was grounded upon. If a pro sprinter could chime in this sort of topic, that’d be great.

> A “significant development” is not necessarily a good thing. Case in point, the above invincibility ability would undoubtedly be a “significant development” for gameplay (and—it could be argued—for future canon), but it would not be a positive development. You need to elaborate more on how sprint is a good thing.

Very true, I guess I’ve done what I thought the OP had done.
Sprint gives all players the basic ability to try to counter the weaponry selections and skills of other players, by having a little more speed with which to get away, duck and dive. This, as a layman, adds a nice level of excitement and balance: the terrain features a lot more into the game
Also, sprint, to me, is a very canon-viable (sorry man, just love that canon) opener for the extension of armour abilities, that can be developed into the future of the series, just as Spartan IV has from Spartan II and Gen 2 Mjolnir from Gen 1, etc. We’ve enjoyed the ability to run since before we could speak. Seems missing to not have it. When the books talk about Spartans covering great distances in the blink of an eye, then I spend the game trundling along getting picked up from across the map by a Spartan laser, before I can get behind a tree - just doesn’t seem very superhuman. I’ve been back playing some Halo CE in the MCC recently and it just feels lacking.
All subjective, you’re totally right to point out, but if we can walk, it’s also nice to be able to run.

It plays worse though, regardless of how it affects it competitively, no one wants to watch halo esports how it is now. The game is nothing like halo, speed and tempo affect gameplay more than anything else, you can’t just say its a development it’s a good thing. It’s a development to you, for most players and Explayers it isn’t. We now have a game that doesn’t resemble halo. It has fast movement and new inputs, but it plays poorly. Not a single thing they have changed about the game has been good. It’s embarrassing seeing them stubbornly ignore the obvious and make a game they want to make. They are paid and owned by MS to make a game for halo fans. All they have done is destroy the franchise.

No offense but you played 11,000 h3 games and we’re a major grade 8000. You’re stuck in that low skill, low game knowledge bracket. From that perspective, I can understand why you enjoyed reach.

Not to mention, unless you are basing this on sales alone—which you aren’t as far as I can tell because the ordering isn’t consistent with that—Halo CE has no place on that list because no data exists for it other than sales data.

Yea it’s more of an opinion based off of the decline of Halo, im confident most would agree with me on this.

They could always add in a feature where if a spartan moves at max speed for a certain amount of time, the spartan will go into a pseudo sprint animation where the arms move slightly up and down with any primary weapon in one hand. Kinda like how a spartan sprints with a pistol or any other small weapon. The fov would also slightly increase at the onset of the animation and weapon reticule would be shown on screen as if you were walking normally. It wouldn’t give a speed boost but it will still feel like the player is sprinting. Best compromise I can think of for people who want sprint to feel like a supersoldier.

A simpler way of doing this is to generally increase the FOV to give the illusion as if you’re going around faster. Here are some examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfhhNuoQSME

But of course, one would also want to move around faster and traverse maps easier. Then I suggest the base speed mode should be increased while keeping the map size generally the same as for example Halo 1-3.

Oh my… Again with the golden triangle crap… How in the world did H3 equipment fit in the triangle at all? They completely destroy it… Yet Halo 3 is the most successful Halo.

The formula is imaginary and to say that only halos like that are good, we’d be left with Halo 1 and 2.

Because equipment was almost never used, had to be found on maps, and most of them still had little affect on gameplay.

I don’t know about you but bubble shield, regen, and power drain were used all the time in my experience. The others, only on occasion. They were extremely irritating, and screwed up the flow. Much more than armor abilities ever did imo.

I disagree, AA’s are far more likely to alter the established game-play mechanics than a one use, map pick-up item.

Your being daft now. How could the bubble shield which there is one of on a map alter the flow as much as permanent armour lock or Sprint? The gunplay and movement is exactly the same with equipment. Equipment was fun in the lighter ranked modes like slayer, it had absolutely no where near as detrimental effect on the communitu as AA. They made half the community quit and never come back.
