If going prone doesn’t fit Halo’s gameplay, then it can be argued just as easily that sprinting doesn’t fit either. We’ve already determined that what is “natural” has no bearing on whether or not a mechanic stays.
Sprinting has been the books like Fall of Reach since 2001 and we seen Cheif sprint from a plasma beam in Halo 2 and Halo 3 on the last mission.

So? We see one of the Spartans in Halo Wars do a flip over an Elite. Just because it happens in cutscenes doesn’t mean it’s good for gameplay.
EDIT: Also, it’s been a long time since I read Fall of Reach. But, I think I remember them using bio-foam to heal a wounded member of Blue Team. Nobody seemed to really mind when health packs were taken out of Halo’s gameplay. I guess that means we’re not too concerned with keeping gameplay lined up with what happens in the books.

Still, Sprint should stay in Halo and stay the way it is.

No no. You push the stick all the way to run. You only walk if you gently push it part way. Nobody is arguing that we need to slow things down to walking speed.
Push the stick slightly to walk, push it all the way to run. The argument is that we don’t need extra speeds on top of that.

We should not have sprint as a button but how forward you push the stick? That makes no since to do at all.

No, I’m saying that we shouldn’t have sprint. I’m describing how it was in the old games. You walked by pushing the stick gently, you ran by pushing the stick all the way. I think EKM Stinger was confused because he thought we were talking about slowing everything down to walking speed. We want it to control like it did in the old Halo games.

The maps sizes are just fine and don’t NEED to be elongated to accompany a mechanic like sprint. That has got to be one of the worst arguements aganist sprint out there right now. The sole reason for maps to be that size nowadays is to make them feel bigger, that’s it.

Or the same cases for Truth vs Midship, which was linked earlier in this thread? Can you provide something that state maps are bigger to make them feel bigger? Because I can certainly provide you with a link to where map designers for Halo 4 imply maps are larger due to default sprint.

Sprint is just a faster way to get around so you don’t spend 5 years getting from point A to point B. If you you’re playing competitively I don’t think sprint makes to much of a difference.(Expect maybe spartan charge, which can be TOTAL BS at times)

After reading through that article, I think you and I have completely different understandings behind what was said. By how I read the article, they make adjustments of the maps because they want it to play a certain way. They have a specific mindset on where they want players to move. That has no bearing solely on the sprint mechanic. Again that is how I read it. Sprint’s sole purpose is to speed up gameplay, not to make maps bigger. If they want you to get to a point of the map in a designated amount of time, they will. The same effect would happen if they removed sprint and increased base movement speed. And in all honesty, I think they made Truth to big of a map, and not because of sprint. They overcompensated on that map.

Why would you want to slowly move in the middle of the battlefield? That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard as an argument against sprint. In fact, the only reason it is ridiculous, is because you can actually do it in H5, I do it around corners and stuff (not when crouching), but there’s no reason for it to be used as an argument against sprint.

343 made halo 5 maps to accommodate for sprint, if there was no sprint then there would be no need to extend the map size

That’s the biggest BS I’ve ever heard. Maps are bigger for the smoke and mirror effect, so it looks like the maps were well done, when in fact, they were just there to cover up their downsides. All of the maps are uninspiring, except Warzone. With or without sprint, the maps would still be relatively big so that they could try and get away with not creating good maps. BIG =/= good.
copy pasted from another thread.
sprint we can never have our classic maps the way we know and love them. Truth is a perfect example. Go back to midship and heretic, there the map that truth is a remake of. In midship and heretic its all crammed but it plays well with the shotgun in the middle and sword with it. But truth has barely any cover compared to midship and heretic. Truth is super wide open and awkward and it’s just annoying to play. Sprint ruins any hope of us getting our classic maps in their full potential. Instead it’s just half as good as it used to be.
I personally don’t mind if we have sprint or not, but as long as it exsists we can never have our classic maps the way they once were.
