> 1) Immersion.
>
> Now I understand a lot of the counter arguments to this, but you also have to be subjective on this. I totally love the sense of immersion… I prefer to “feel,” like a Spartan when I make decisions in combat situations, including the desire to run like hell when I need to. And no, that’s not to say I want to run away all the time or think people need to be empowered to, “escape punishment,” which is how someone tried to write this off earlier in the thread. There are multiple reasons why I prefer this immersion- first and foremost I want to break the monotony of slugging around maps- particularly larger ones, at one pace. So for those who have countered that increasing one BMS is the answer, I disagree. I want bigger maps, but I don’t want to feel punished for going on foot like in Halo 3’s BTB maps. My god, sometimes I’d just want to leave game on the MCC just for getting stuck with certain H3 BTB maps in matchmaking (though I’m not an advocate for quitting so I’d just tough through the boredom of putzing along through maps like Sandtrap and Avalanche)… This was particularly bothersome when all the vehicles were always gobbled up right in the beginning of maps- like people would literally betray others to get to a vehicle to avoid having to walk. If only people could have sprinted in those maps then this wouldn’t have been an issue at all and it would have felt like a more immersive experience versus “Why the -expletive- do I have to trot around these giant maps like this?? Isn’t a Spartan supposed to be a super soldier???”
I understand your complaints regarding the pacing of halo 3, which we have all discussed was the result of the small FOV and many other factors in effect to making halo 3 play slow, even competitively. But what irks me is your idea that even increasing the BMS (to sprint speed) wouldn’t solve the issue of making you feel punished for being on foot in the bigger BTB maps.
In all curiousness, have you ever seen Quake game play? I don’t suggest you watch the entire series between the two players (unless you’re really interested), but try watching the first match. With how fast both players can move while still being granted the ability to shoot, you can see how quickly engagements can pop up, even through a 1v1 game. Now, if 343 were to implement this sort of BMS from quake into halo 6 (or at least the idea of it), would you honestly still feel like there’s a lack of progression in traversing the map and that you’re feeling punished for traversing maps designed for more vehicular combat? Not only would there be such a sense of progression in maneuvering through big maps, but there would also be that intensity of moving in an even faster pace than what halo 5’s sprint has to offer. This intensity can be transferred over to whenever you’re caught being chased by an opponent, knowing that he has a greater opportunity to kill you because of the ability to move and shoot as you move quickly back to cover, which would also reward smarter map movement to trick your enemy into where you want them to be unlike a game with sprint. Add an FOV slider to halo along with this change, and your sense of immersion would go through the roof of running like a spartan, all without needing a sprint mechanic that works in many other franchises but this one.

If you enjoy sprint so much, then why are you in this feed everyday? I understand you are trying to defend it but shouldn’t you be enjoying Halo 5 right now then? When Halo 3 came out I played non-stop, watched funny machinimas, and enjoyed talking to people in in-game lobbies. I didn’t even touch a forum for years because of how good the game was but now I’m in the forums trying to fix Halo because it’s not fun anymore and things need to start changing back.

He’s to busy trying to understand his “fellow fans” concerns while then invalidating every issue/solution people bring up.

You said it right there- what I’ve been getting at. It’s because so many pro sprinters don’t even know this is an issue at all. It’s also because the outspoken minority (anti sprinters) have taken to this thread to try and over-inflate the issue and make it seem they’re the majority on an issue by attacking pro sprinters. But I am in this thread to take part in a neutral and (hopefully) productive discussion about sprint and to demonstrate that many Halo fans have a lot of good reasons for keeping sprint in Halo.

Honestly, we just want Halo to have no sprint because it just happens to be that the most popular Halos (Halo 2 and Halo 3) both didn’t have sprint and that (and other things of course) is what made Halo so much more different from all of the other shooters out at the time. You don’t need to fix whats not broken.

Sprint wasn’t about fixing Halo, it was about enhancing Halo (which is what sprint does).

To you it does. Is there any evidence that the larger Halo audience felt that way? All I’ve seen over the years is evidence that could be used to say otherwise.

sprint takes away the halo experience rather than enhancing and has made halo more generic fps shooter like cod, destiny titanfall.especially now that you have spartan charge makes things even worse.

You can’t just release an expansion pack of the same game over and over- just because a previous Halo game was successful doesn’t mean you can lean on that success by making the sequel a virtual copy of it.

Which was never needed to achieve the specified goals that you have mentioned throughout this thread, and it has disregarded the foundation of game play from the original trilogy.

So there is no evidence to support what you said then? More baseless assumptions. Color me shocked.

CoD has done that for a while, and it still destroys halo in population and sales, even disregarding sales from other platforms. Not making the sequel a copy of its predecessor doesn’t mean redefining the genre, which was what Reach and 4 intended to accomplish.

Yea you’re right you can’t. But their hasn’t been a Halo like 2 or 3 in a decade so it wouldn’t be an expansion pack, it would be change

Color you something bud. You’ve had a lot of baseless assumptions yourself throughout the course of this thread; including trying desperately to run out pro sprinters.

I find it interesting how both sides like to call each other the minority. I understand that assuring yourself that you’re in the majority makes it easier to dismiss the other group, but could we please not? Obviously, popularity is a huge part of the discussion, but it’s just a dead-end because nobody has credible data to back themselves up that their side is the majority and not the other way around, but still everybody seems awfully confident about it (on both sides). At this point calling the other side the minority just seems like a jab with getting a reaction out of them as the only purpose.
If you want to take part in a productive discussion, the attitude you present in this post is perhaps not the best one to take with you. And frankly, it’s not just you. There’s this thing that people do which is the constant need to subtly belittle the other side. But it’s just creates more bad blood between the two sides. It would be a lot nicer if we all just made our arguments for and against sprint and didn’t claim things about the other side unless we have actual data to back it up.
Now, wish me luck that nobody links to that Reddit thread with the polls that have been discussed a billion times. Because that’s one of the side effects of calling people the minority. It brings back that discussion.

Personally, I think I’ve heard and seen many points supporting why one high BMS will definitely not replace sprint and would make Halo worse… Anti sprinters would tell you different, but I do agree insofar that no one should be here with the intention to “disprove,” “dismantle,” and/or “destroy,” opinions from our fellow fans about this.

My point is that one in game mechanic has little to do with pressure an increase in competition from other FPS titles, games, and platforms. Either way Reach, 4, and 5 have still been successful.

There are a wide array of reasons why Halo could be less popular than it once was- it’s arguable that it could have been even less popular without changing up the formula in each title. They can’t very well just package up an expansion pack and market it as a sequel, because other than that there’s no way to avoid “diverting,” from previous titles when Halo sequels are launched.

Sprint has remained in Halo for the past 3 AAA titles in the franchise because it fits in well in Halo. Halo Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5 have proven that sprint can become a core mechanic of gameplay and should stay in Halo.

Sprint has gotten better, and Halo 5 has the best version of sprint. Midship and Heretic were two phenomenal Halo maps, and the only thing that holds Truth back is how much the map is streched to incorporate sprint.

Deflecting.
So you don’t deny that what you said was a completely baseless assumption?

All i’m going by is population count from Halo 3 compared to Halo 5’s population count.
