I don’t mind people disliking halo due to changes, but it’s flat out asinine to say it’s not halo lol. Seems to still be in the halo universe? Still revolves around chief? Still has some key features that halo was popular for like forge/customs, the traditional 4v4 arena slayer to btb even tho it’s now a watered down btb. Then there’s still the multiplayer involvement of map control, power weapons, and it’s still one of the most team oriented games when matched up to most fps out there. Again, I don’t mind people disliking the changes that they view as negative but fact is it is indeed still a halo game, disliking a mechanic here and there doesn’t just magically remove halos universe or other parts of it that helped shape it. It’s still halo, it’s just not what I’d consider a halo that can match its peak or golden age.

The point of Cabooses post was that sprint is what people expect, including new players. Soldier is played less than 7% of the time, so clearly almost nobody cares about not being able to sprint when playing that game.

The maps sizes are just fine and don’t NEED to be elongated to accompany a mechanic like sprint. That has got to be one of the worst arguements aganist sprint out there right now. The sole reason for maps to be that size nowadays is to make them feel bigger, that’s it.

Or the same cases for Truth vs Midship, which was linked earlier in this thread? Can you provide something that state maps are bigger to make them feel bigger? Because I can certainly provide you with a link to where map designers for Halo 4 imply maps are larger due to default sprint.

> > > >
> > > > And the grand finale, the sprinting. People say it helps you back in the action faster → one aspect that was unique to halo was that slower pace that allowed you to make plans ahead and not just run mindlessly back to battle. Maps have been made with clamber and sprint in mind → it makes me feel like a tiny Spartan, all the corridors and halls are wide and extreme long (halo reach map remakes for example halo 3s the Pit had this problem) and my enemies are on top on lamp posts around the map. Keeping a position which was very important in previous halos is now almost impossible because of the fast pace that the players can get back in action and even clamber up next to you…

The maps were always big in Halo especially CE and 2, H3 had slightly smaller arena maps so did Reach. Their is no logical reason why a super soldier can’t clamber or sprint. The maps are not solely big because of sprint, Spartan Charge and Ground Pound are why the maps are so funky and why the radar was shortened. Spartan Charge makes perfect sense considering you reach maximum velocity sprinting and it becomes a powerful melee that for some reason DOES THE SAME AMOUNT OF DAMAGE as a regular melee. Ground Pound on the other hand should instantly kill you because you’re basically rocketing towards the ground. Halo 6 should bring back fall damage because I think skill jumps would have more risk/reward.

Lore should have no effect on gameplay. Spartans can shoot and sprint, prone, and are much faster, yet that is not put into gameplay. Maybe when you put the joint down you’d realize that Halo is not a spartan simulator.
Even if you are OK with sprint, there are problems created by it’s introduction, whether you like it or not. Just liking something doesn’t magically make the problems OK.

Glad you had so much to add. PS. stating you like or dislike a mechanic does in no way make your point valid. Its not a point its an opinion. My favorite economist has three questions useful in almost any argument, for those who want or would not want sprint examine your own position. Compared to what? At what cost? What hard evidence do you have?
To Pro Sprint:
Traditional halo, “old” games, Doom CSGO OW etc…
Highly open to argument, but Id argue that ignoring the massive decline in the general interest in halo coupled with the implementation of “modern” mechanics is bordering on intellectual dishonesty. Popular does in no way = better but there surly is something going on here.
We have the population data, sales data (sans some very vague H5 data) and the knowledge that the game has been off the MLG circuit since Reach, unless of course we self fund through req packs, essentially 343 forcing the game into their own niche stage.
Or we could just be as fast as Halo CE (if not faster) and not put in sprint anyways. It makes it easier on the player not having to fumble on the controller just to press a button to sprint.

> Another thing: how does changing the title of a game you dont like make it better? It would just be the same game, with a different title. It almost seems like you didn’t think at all before you said that. Hmm…
It’s a modern shooter with a Halo skin. Halo is not a modern shooter. Halo is a classic console shooter. It is reasonable to think that games in the Halo franchise should play like classic console shooters.
And changing the title would mean that 343 wasn’t messing with the Halo formula when they made this game. If this game came out as the start of a new IP, it would have been fine. Hell, I may have even enjoyed it. But by making something that deviates so far from the Halo formula, and calling it “Halo”, means that we are that much further from ever getting a true Halo game again. And that is simply depressing.
A multiplayer Halo match should be somewhat methodical. It shouldn’t be this mess of, “ZOMG, gotta go fast!”. The pace should fit comfortably between the frantic shooters like Doom or Quake and the tactical shooters like Ghost Recon or Battlefield.
I do get people might hate sprint because it was not in Halo and don’t Halo to be Cod but Sprinting is a natural ability that Spartans and people have. Spartan Charge is ability that natural since you can charge people when running and have so much force to be disabled for a second. Fuel wielding is anatural ability and sliding.

> I don’t know if it’s just sprint that we can blame the slow decline of halo on but rather the adaptation of cliches in modern shooters.
Right. But one of those cliches, and the one that has had the biggest impact on Halo’s gameplay, is sprint.

So is laying prone, so is sticking to cover, so is blind-shooting around corners, etc.
But, we can all see how detrimental those mechanics would be to Halo’s gameplay. Realism does not equate to good gameplay.

You said that sprint is a natural ability, and implied that this is why it should be in Halo. Well, Laying prone is a natural ability. By your own argument, it should be in Halo too.
Or, do you agree that we should pick and choose which abilities should be in the game based on how good it is for gameplay, and whether or not it is “natural” is completely irrelevant?

Um just we should have some natural abilities but not all since proneing would be useless in Halo since how big you are.

Exactly. It’s still very much a Halo game in it’s setting and core gameplay, it’s just that now there’s an expanded toolset that players have to master.
Hopefully 343i takes Halo 5’s gameplay and merely makes some tweaks to it for Halo 6 so that they can spend time getting maps and gametypes ready for launch. A Halo with an abundance of at-launch content is what the series really needs right now.

So then what is your argument? You’re saying we should have some natural abilities, but not all. So, since we’re already picking and choosing, let’s ditch the sprinting. If going prone doesn’t fit Halo’s gameplay, then it can be argued just as easily that sprinting doesn’t fit either. We’ve already determined that what is “natural” has no bearing on whether or not a mechanic stays.
