Why not utilize map environments, making shortcuts or alternate way to move (like man-canon and teleporter)? You people say like sprint is only movement available for moving…

True that as well.

This discussion thread is cancer. Clearly most of the older Halo community (the bigger and me) wants to get rid of sprint, while the newer Halo community (the smaller) wants to keep sprint. Sadly, most of the older Halo community has left so the newer Halo community has taken over the forums. Get rid of sprint, make the gameplay and maps more like Halo 3, and the Halo community will slowly make a comeback (hopefully). … end of story.

Not really, I’m an older player and I’ve wanted sprint since Halo 2. Can we let this thread die now? There are more interesting topics to discuss. I do agree it’s cancer.

The main thing about Sprint is that it has allowed you to move from cover faster to a different cover. The game has slowly delved into a place where your shields have gotten a little weaker over time and your health is lower. Halo 5 has turned into a main stream Call of Duty/Real Time Strategy game where they are starting to give and take in their ideas. One thing they have done is left the reticle magnetism but the bullet magnetism is gone. The way you look itself is too over fluid and PC gaming like and not the smooth and controlled feeling of ALL the previous Halo games. I find myself now overcompensating when I turn to fire at someone and I’m amazed that I can go back and play the previous Halo games and I just destroy the competition so the reason I am missing and having to over adjust ALL the time is because of Halo 5. The game is now tooooo twitchy and if you Sprint into combat at the wrong time which is about 3-4 times during a Swat game and that’s not counting the spawn kills (Which 343 said they did a better job of getting rid of than in the past cough BS!)… The purposefully reduced shield strength and health to accommodate thrusters. Imagine how hard it would be to kill someone who had shields and health of Halo 4 strength with thrusters we have now almost like having an extra shield bar. I have said in past posts that Sprinting is not the only feature we need to have adjusted. I would rather have it be staggered, but as you can see 343 is making this game into what I call; “Call of Halo”. It is so similar to COD now that it is hard to discern the two. We need a return back to what made Halo great. Also one last thing, enemy players are now spawning behind you like in COD which in Halo’s past was never a thing. I could honestly have 20-30 feet behind me and have my team push forward… The enemy team would literally spawn behind me. It forces me to move instead of having map control.

> CE and H2 were always the better paced games IMO and funnily enough despite me wanting to see a return of a “no sprint” true arena based Halo game I’ve always hated Halo 3, it had so many issues for me and to this day I find it unplayable on MCC I think its aged the least well out of all the old games.
>
> The way 343 works it wouldn’t surprise me if they dropped sprint fo H6, especially with Overwatch being the success it has, they love to follow the popular trends.

Honestly surprised you hated Halo 3. In my opinion it was the greatest Halo of all time <3

I don’t think they should make it like H3, but it is time for change.

We’ve had sprint for a decade and 3 games now. None of them have been very successful. Try something new and different. I think keeping the other spartan abilities but building them off a fast no sprint movement speed would be really interesting and refreshing. Especially since no other game would play anything like that. That’s something newer Halo games really miss and I think a big reason why the first 3 games were so popular. Those games had a really unique feel to them. H4/H5 draw far too many parallels to COD/Destiny/Titanfall. 343 should aim to distance themselves from those games in order to create a distinct and interesting product.

it’s very ironic that people who defend sprint often hurl insults around about how other people can’t accept change when they themselves are defending the act of not changing.

> I like sprint as a constant mechanic, it didn’t feel right in Halo Reach where it was an optional armour ability. Also playing the older Halo games they feel much too slow without a sprint mechanic.

But that’s the thing. They don’t feel slow because they don’t have sprint. They feel slow because the movement speed is too slow.

The solution is not to add sprint. It’s to up the movement speed.

Sprint is the pharmaceutical drug that while clearing up your illness, also brings with it numerous nasty side effects. Upping movement speed is the holistic, natural remedy.

A fast base movement speed eliminates all need for the extra “speeds” because you are always moving fast, always ready to shoot, and it doesn’t ruin map design for Halo games. Because the faster the base movement speed the more variations you can move at without putting yourself in a non-combat ready situation.

No I do NEED all 3. I need 3 different ways of varying my speed. There should be a risk to moving at a greater speed, it is silly for there not to be one. Would you shoot better in a dead sprint or moving slowly?

As long as there’s something to discuss, then it stays alive, as it has stayed alive, there seems to be a wish to discuss.

You are free to not respond to this thread at all and instead go discuss the topics you find interesting. This thread does not prevent you or anyone else from doing so.

Look up the Halo 3 trailer uploaded by machinima, read the comments, because it really proves my point about the nostalgic og Halo community.

Their wouldn’t be this discussion thread if Halo had stuck to it’s roots and had no sprint to begin with

BMS can still meet your needs. Want to walk? Gently move the thumb stick forward. Want to jog? Move it up a little more. Want to go fast? Push the stick forward all the way. Bam, 3 speeds that can be met with BMS. As for the risk factor, why have a risk that also in turn has a domino effect on the design of the game like sprint? Is your options really worth the sacrifice of combat readiness, map elongation, the removal of unique ways to traverse a map (teleportation, vehicles, man cannons)?

this is also a video game, and games can easily defy realism as they have always done.

But the whole point of Halo is to get rid of risk/reward type stuff. You’re a super solider from the future. The entire game is built to be a power trip that allows you to do super human things.

Maybe you should go play ARMA my friend.

Ya I don’t get why people want a tactical risk/reward mechanic thrown in to halo. Being able to do multple things at once is what is cool about being a super soldier.

No, unless it’s a female super soldier.

Male super soldiers can only do one thing at a time, because they’re males.
I’m a man, and I can’t put a coin in anything while talking.

The first two sentences are a stereotypical joke, don’t get offended.
The last sentence is true, I am a man, and I always drop the coin when I’m talking while trying to pay for something…

Either way.
Risk vs Reward.
The thing is that there seem to be a sudden “need” for RvR mechanics, when in turn there have been RvR scenarios built into the game, not into the player mechanics.
I for one can’t think of a RvR mechanic prior to Halo: Reach, perhaps scoping, perhaps not.
Where does this “need” come from? When did it suddenly become a problem that RvR mechanics were missing?
As I said, RvR occasions can be built into the maps, especially when it comes to map traversal.
