No sprint makes me almost as depressed as not being the author of this topic.
Awwww I liked the old title better.
The problem with removing the sprint is then smaller maps… that in itself stinks. then they would remove weapons that would reflect the sprint so it wouldnt be just remove the sprint. most ppl think they know what they want… there are two kinds of ppl … ppl that eat the same cereal every morning and ppl that go out and hunt for something new everyday. The problem i have with this halo community is they are suck in the same routine.

Yeah, I don’t want to see sprint removed either… But at the same time I feel we have to respect OP’s right to say how they feel about sprint too. I do personally feel this thread has been unnaturally kept alive and propelled by some of the anti-sprinters who came after OP, but at least the monitors helped re-shape this into a neutral topic.
For arena I say no sprint, just increase the base player movement speed and for social have it in there. its a touchy subject because I do enjoy sprint to a certain degree but at the same time I can see how it takes away from Halo as well. You can’t please everyone.

> > > That is correct. IF I’m in say around a corner, dude sprints in I am going to be able to shoot first and vice versa. It makes it more of a thinking game. Again excluding spartan charge which has ruined this aspect for a lot of engagements.
> >
> >
> > This ‘thinking game’ is actually a game of happenstance. The opponent just happened to be sprinting. In Halo games without sprint you had to predict where an opponent might be, and plan accordingly. Older Halo games are more involved thinking games because IF you make a MISTAKE you are punished. Running around wildly gets you destroyed. While H5 its similar, sprint allows players to survive MORE mistakes than previous classic style Halo games.
>
>
> Sorry, But sprinting into an area without thought is not happenstance. Its a conscious thought by the player, a very poor strategy at times. which punishes them. But can also reward players if the enemy they are trying to engage is not paying attention then the sprinter has the advantage. Both the attacker and enemy require thinking to win the engagement. Removing sprint, removes that aspect of thinking. Although there is still a strategy when sprint is removed it has one less variable to the fight. As I have stated many times, people are either against it or for it based on how it affects their own personal gameplay. The more variables the harder it becomes. Its why some people like small team MP instead of Big Team in any game regardless of whether or not its Halo, Battlefield or whatever. Some people will not play big teams like BF has 32 vs 32. Some people will not play it because its too many variables to account for it puts them at a disadvantage. Having an additional variable such as sprint puts some players at a disadvantage because of the same simple reason. I hate spartan charge for the same reason, its an additional variable that I have to consider, one which I don’t want to have to think about. Sprint is enough variables, where spartan charge is too many, for me. But thats just me.
Halo has always been structured around variables that can be predicted with accuracy. Because a player can be moving at three different speeds at any point, or not moving, you cannot say you can 100% of the time predict where a player will be if they are running around the map. If I mix together sprint and running speed, I am conciously creating a random variable. Randomness does not lend itself to gameplay well. While this matter is less detrimental to the overall pace and play of the game it’s still an issue that older Halos suffered to a much lesser extent due to the universal movement speed that allowed players to not only predict where players are going to be without the NEED for radar, but to engage in pursuit while maintaining the ability to do damage to the fleeing player. Sprint may add another variable to the game, but not all variables are good additons, such as the additions of multiple autos that can contest the starting utility weapon of the game with ease.
In an earlier post I outlined major issues that sprint causes in Halo gameplay. The most important of these is easily the increase in TTK. You mentioned you liked longer TTK, but the problem with a longer TTK is that players can no longer distinguish themselves from any given set of players. While it’s true players can take over H5 games, they need a team to support them all the way. Sprint is one of the major causes in this. If a player could punish every player as harshly as they could, then more dominate individual players would arise. Sprint lessens the opunishments on many players by allowing them to escape situations that they should not have put themselves in. Now, you may think that using your teammates is what players need to start doing. I also addressed this point as well. Not every player is listening, talking, or playing with friends. This is true for the vast majority of the players in Halo generally speaking. While putting in your mic and talking can have positive effects, such as killing the players who sprinted away, it can also just feel frustrating due to the number of people in a party chat while playing the game, meaning they can’t hear you.
To address your enjoyment of more variables would be to go OT, so I will simply say that sprint is a variable that negatively affects other variables in the game to the point where the core experience of Halo is more frustrating to newer players who do not know every path through a map, or how to deal with an opponent forcing them to lower their weapon just to keep them in their LOS.

Yeah, it was dead for a week or 2, and then SOMEONE had to revive it. I am glad the title is more neutral now though.
I did just reread the OP’s post though and it makes NO sense. No sprint in campaign!? That is the one place where sprint makes the most sense and is the most useful for EVERYONE involved. If I had a dime for every time I wished I had sprint on the Ark, the Covenant, Halo, the Library, and ESPECIALLY Mombasa streets, (I think you get the point) I’d be a rich man.

Oh yeah sweet baby RNJesus don’t take sprint out of campaign! Such a thing could never be justified to me… I agree with you, those iconic levels would be about 10x better if only we had sprint in those days… And I can’t tell you how many times I mashed the sprint button in vain (knowing it wouldn’t work) on the MCC just hoping that maybe I would inch along those levels a little faster than traversing them at a snails pace.
I’m willing to hear out trying smaller maps without sprint - like a playlist or two in competitive play. Give players the option and then 343i can assess which playlists are more popular and if they choose, they can further collect data on sprint in the Halo Community Feedback (HCF) once players get to try Halo 6 with AND without sprint.
Anti sprinters have yet to really address this idea, other than someone briefly telling me, “Middle grounds satisfy no one.” I don’t know why some people even debate at all if they are incapable of compromising but I have a feeling that maybe it’s because anti-sprinters know they wouldn’t win unless it’s somehow all or nothing. If players really got to experience Halo 6 with or without sprint in certain playlists and later pick which they prefer- anti-sprinters probably have a sinking suspicion that sprint would indeed stay in Halo…
Mfw people are using lore and narrative as an attempt to argue for gameplay mechanics
Sprint’s negatives have been known for years, from the widening of maps and shrinking verticality, the slower pace of combat due to having a fast speed at which you can’t engage and a slow speed where you can fight, and the lack of zoning now that you gotta pray you know how fast somebody is moving.
I have yet to see anything sprint has positively added to Halo that was not already present previously.

What is negative and what is good is solely opinion. What might be an advantage or disadvantage depends on play style/skill. No amount of scenarios you nor anybody else can explain will change that. Incidentally, the same holds true for the radar/motion sensor which has changed from game to game. Not necessarily you , but lots of people have posted on this thread as if there claims are facts. Just like the original headline of this thread was that if I remember correctly “removing sprint will make Halo halo again” or something to that effect. That is strictly an opinion until somebody can show some official polls showing its hurts the population or helps it, we only have opinions. what I would love to see though is periodic polls on Xbox One that are voluntary that are easy to navigate for all players on xbox to participate in. I don’t know why something like that is not done.Microsoft could get valuable information on what the majority of players like and want in a game with that information passed on to MS’s developers and partners. Assassins Creed Black flag lets you rate each mission which I’m sure will be invaluable to Ubisoft. From what I have heard the latest AC game is the best one that has been out in a very long time.
Final thought, this thread can end up with 20K comments, but its still a simple matter of opinion until legitimate polling stats say otherwise.
Halo was one of the last games to not have sprint, now anyone who dosn’t like it has nowhere to run.
Yes there’s a pun, but what I’m saying is serious.

I have yet to see monitors pin a bias thread… The monitors can choose to pin whatever they want, I’m just saying I personally only see neutral threads get selected to be pinned.
Don’t get me wrong, OP should be able to speak their mind like that but the title of the thread and content in the OP was (and still is inside the OP) whole-heartedly bias. And

Well…campaign is a heck of a lit better. But that’s not REALLY what is being discussed is it…
Is there anything wrong with not knowing how fast someone is moving? It adds another element of strategy, of knowing when to sprint/walk/crouch, etc.
I think the map size can be argued. This has long been a debate, but I haven’t seen how maps have really gotten any bigger on average than halo 2 days.
Sprint simply allows for a quicker reengagement in combat and an additional level of strategy.
And please don’t try yo paint me as an ignorant idiot. I have played without sprint and like it (Halo 2A is my favorite halo multiplayer, and I love halo 1 &2) but I like sprint as well and can see benefits of it.
I feel as if there are three ways to approach sprinting in future games:
