I’d say to resolve this issue just have some specific arena game modes where it disables sprint but still keeps the same game modes like slayer, btb, ctf, fiesta, etc.

I like sprint just fine, I’d think if they took it away many people would complain, and I’ve been playing halo since early 2000s

No I wasn’t referring to the maps, I was talking about the sprint ability in general

Hey a spartan can do a backflip, they should be able to sprint while holding a weapon right? It feels less realistic without sprint in my opinion, if they’re aiming and running that’s a different story of course they wouldn’t sprint because they’re trying to be precise

Sprint has affected Halo’s map design, and core gameplay. That’s what this thread is about.

So, firing accurately while running and jumping around, with recharging shields, single-handedly fighting through hordes of aliens, on an ancient giant super weapon in space, is realistic? Infinite sprint, over various types of terrain, isn’t any more realistic than not having sprint at all.

When did realism ever matter in halo, it’s gameplay that matters.

Sprint:
Pros:
Faster foot slogging traversal for bigger maps
Feels natural to be able to sprint as a supersoldier
Slide feels fantastic

Cons:
Creates flanking heavy ‘get the jump on a guy’ gameplay, often invalidating radar
If you don’t sprint you’ll be left behind, but getting caught sprinting (free shot on you) is lame
Stopping to engage in a fight often results in getting flanked becasue people simply move faster - frustrating
Makes close combat weapons one dimensional and frustrating to play against
Spartan charge has way too much lock-on and is frustrating to get caught by someone blindly sprinting around a corner

I’m kinda on the fence, but I do enjoy the deliberate gameplay of Halo 3 more than I enjoy being able to sprint and slide. I’d be happy to make the tradeoff of having no sprint but more deliberate gameplay that’s less influenced by frantic flanking.

“To be honest… it makes it hard to give it my all. Or is that an excuse for being lazy? Hell… if I know.”
I think Halo needs to keep moving the direction it is now. These changes are good. There is no reason for inconsistencies.

Any reasons why? or are they just “good”

I’d rather keep sprint in at this point. Removing it would not make much a change .

Yep, after tilting in arena I decided to play some Battlefield 1 beta and MCC H2 classic before returning to H5. Upon returning I was really shocked by how fluid, smooth and enjoyable the gameplay was. I have my beefs with H5 MP (maps, sprint, etc.) but I can’t deny the quality that is there.

That being said, a no-sprint and revamped base movement H5 is something I wish I could try out.

Best part of sprint in H5: sliding.
Worst part: map design.

This is one of the better ideas I’ve seen on this thread. I’d be on board with this.

Sliding has actually saved me from so many kill sin Swat lol and the delay between the crouch and re-aiming actually isn’t too bad either.

Well, im glad to see im not the only one who hates what sprint has done to Halo.

I think sprinting started because bungie wanted to make something huge like it was Invasion, massive maps and experienced never before.

for something like this sprinting was necessary. I remember using sprinting or jet pack cuz I got the feeling of being back in the fight and I wanted to be there in no time.

we would not know if Bungie will kept sprinting in halo games, unfortunately we all know what happened and 343 needs to develops based on the current demand of market as the spotlight is on them for this beloved franchise.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick of all this fruitless discussion on sprint. It seems to always devolve into fingerpointing, subjective opinions on both “sides”, and just plain meanspirited comments. So here is my proposal, flawed, and unlikely to happen:Stage 1: 343i releases a massive update within the next year. It is available for Owners of Halo 5 for 1 or 2 months. This update includes:

  • A “quasi” classic playlist. The Spartan Abilities of Halo 5 are present, but sprint (and subsequently Spartan Charge) is removed. A higher baseline movement speed is instated. - Games include FFA, Team Slayer, King of the Hill - New maps are developed, approximating popular Halo 5 maps, but reworked to accomodate a single movement speed. - Weapons are tweaked to again accomodate the new, single speed.Stage 2: After the first 2 months of the new DLC, Microsoft once again releases Halo 5 and the new DLC as free to play. Another 1 or 2 months ensues, and all xbox players can try the modified version of Halo 5.Stage 3 All players who participated are asked to vote for their favorite. Total play time is analyzed for popularity trends, and compared with poll results. Now I know that this would be an extremely expensive and time consuming investment on 343i’s behalf, but it would once and for all establish what REAL halo players want. I define REAL as anyone who actually plays Halo. No purchase necessary. This is the closest way to conduct a Clinical Study and reveal what the community really wants (stage 1) and also what potential new players (or fans who have left the franchise) want (stage 2).Play and vote, or forever hold your peace.

I think what people forget is that even if 343i released classic playlist on Halo 5 w/o abilities and some forge maps it would not work sadly.
The weapons are too tweaked for faster movement abilities and have ridicilous amount of bullet magnetism. And have you seen the range of automatics which already have fast killtimes.
It would only result in bad gameplay where autos rule like in current Halo 5.
Then playlist population would get small and 343i would use it as scapegoat to say that old Halo is not popur & thus they can Codify Halo 6 to appeal for larger audience (which they have been doing in H4 & H5).

Halo 6 can be great without Sprint.

Have you tried team beyond’s evolved settings?
