As for your weak analogy, I haven’t played Battlefield 3, but I honestly believe that sprint was only put into the game in order to appeal to the CoD fanbase. Reach’s sprint ability–and many other armor abilities–were broken. Halo 5’s sprint is actually somewhat balanced, but if I lose speed by being shot while making a sprint jump, then yeah, the gameplay is nothing like classic Halo. What happened to jump tactics? Okay, you have to be trolling, I had some of the best times having no-scope wars on Boarding Action.

Just because you don’t understand the analogy doesn’t make it weak. People are using this basic argument against sprint. “I don’t like it because my gun is down and I can’t react as fast. Let’s get rid of it.” In other words “I’m no good at using it and am unwilling to adjust my gameplay accordingly so I’ll complain.”
That’s great for you and your no-scoping ability. I genuinely suck at it. That doesn’t mean we should get rid of snipers does it?
Alienating the core fanbase? I’m certain you are the one trolling now. That seems a bit dramatic. lol I think it should be offered definitely. Who doesn’t love classic gameplay? Do we want it? Yes. Will it be offered? Maybe. The population wouldn’t be large enough if we all just picked up CE from back in the day to support it but to have it as an option in the next iteration of Halo would be great. Honestly, when it comes to sprinting I barely notice it when I do use it. If it is going to stay I’d prefer it to be faster or downsize maps to get back into the action faster.

How about the maps being stretched how about there are not tanks in big team battle because there to easy to board and destroy causing them to hang back and she’ll enemy from the distance halo had ways of getting around cannon men vehicles teleporters and with sprint those will all soon be gone

because halo “dieded” hmmm let me think about it, aprox. 4 or 5 times already?
yet this forum is still active as always, yet there are still coming out new games,
yet those games are getting bought multiple million times.

People want sprint to be gone and another group of people want sprint. Both want the opposite. There cannot be any compromise for sprint. Including sprint in any form will be a betrayal for them, because sprint is there, and excluding sprint will be another betrayal to people who wants it. It is either side, remove or keep.
> 2535455681930574;7220:
> I’m confused now. Everyone has been saying that the base speed of halo’s ce-3 were faster than halo 5’s and the strafe speed is definitely slower than previous halo’s. Are you sure this is right? As a side note you should revisit halo 5 now that all of the updates are out. Also, what is the delta? I don’t really know what’s wrong with my idea. Sprint would be a lot less common but you’d still be able to use it for those times where you feel like you have to sprint.
I guess they were talking about relative speeds. Remake maps in Halo 4 were scaled so that they yielded the same time from one end to the other as the original trilogy when using base movement speed. (Pitfall vs Pit. Ragnarok vs Valhalla.) Remake (or reimagined) maps in H5G however are tailored so that the crossing time when sprinting is the same as running in the original trilogy. (Truth vs Midship.)
That doesnt change the fact that overall the difference between running and sprinting has been lowered compared to Reach and 4. This difference is called the delta.
However, delta was only reduced after backlash in the beta. Who knows how this was intentionally designed? Since the beta didn’t have customs or forge, there was no way to test.
But it’s true, I should probably finish the measurements now that forge is out. I have the game sitting on my shelf since january, I just never had the itch to open it…
> 2535455681930574;7220:
> It doesn’t go against lore. The Spartans of halo ce-3 never sprinted. It was always walking/jogging speed. A Spartan sprinting is them focusing all priorities on going fast. Plus, they go against the speed stats you just posted.
Sprint speed in the games is about 2/3rds as fast as the maximum speed that Spartans have been documented to be able to shoot while running.(10.72-12m/s vs 15m/s.) The fact that they need to lower their weapon for what is essentially a fast jog goes against lore.

There actually can be compromise and I just listed 3 ways we could do it. What’s wrong with a combination of option 1 and 2?
Oh dear, another flock of people defending sprint.
I give a different argument to sprint this time, I already discussed why sprint is fundamentally wrong, no one decided to challenge me on that so I’ll do something else
I think we can all agree that power weapons, are powerful. Right?
They don’t take as much skill to use (apart from the sniper, but think about it, no one challenges for the sniper, it’s usually a power weapon that spawns near a base).
So let’s say in the future, we start of with a rocket launcher. What?
Your telling me that halo is basically equal starts and balance, everybody has it, so it’s good right?
Wrong. Starting with power weapons makes the TTK too quick and changes the gameplay drastically, we no longer have as much out playability as we used to, and people start to play more defensive, IT CHANGES THE GAMEPLAY.
This applies to many other halos too. Like in halo 3 (don’t own it but still played it), AR starts and BR starts played soooo differently, it’s easy to tell. First In AR sTarts people would go out and find a BR. Trade kills would happen more often and strafing wasn’t done as much.
br starts however, people would go straight in, play the objective more, straight away go to find power weapons.
And team snipers? You just kill, kill, kill. Nothing else, just get the job done.
Sprint is like a power weapon. It takes almost little to no skill to use (apart from the little strategy) and it’s SOOOO helpful. Very helpful in fact. It gets you out of firefights you can’t win, it allows you to jump higher and faster and further, it does sooooo many things and those things all happen with a slight push of a button.
Sprint CAN belong in halo, but only as a pick up and it needs a lot more nerfs to it.
But for the most part I need to explain what halo is too so stick around and read the rest.
halo is not just equal starts and balance, halo is a methodical shooter which consists of a fair and equal gameplay, but then after the game starts the weapon pickups BREAK the balance, halo is a tactical shooter which serves lots of out play potential but at the same time requires a lot of thinking. Halo is unique, not a shooter that borrows mechanics from other games so it can stay relevant, halo was never irrelevant, in fact it’s irrelevant now, when it has gimmicky features like sprint and start if rounds.

Your lists are not compromise for people who want sprint to be gone forever, because it still includes sprint in the game. Adding proper original style playlist will be the only solution, but the problem is this may split the community into half. Also, people want Halo to stick with its original formula and see improvements upon its formula. Treating its original gameplay as side stuff will make fighters who want its original formula to be the main thing in Halo.

Eh, people aren’t using the argument “I’m bad so I complain.” I’m not quite sure if you’ve read anything in this thread, but there are many, many arguments that explain why sprint has a negative effect on map design and gameplay. Like a lot. Seriously, I can’t express how many there are. Essays, man.
As for alienating the core fanbase, that’s also more or less true. Considering the population of Halo at its prime (~1 Million at Halo 3) to the steady decline after the addition of sprint (among other things), the continued involvement of sprint and other things that drove a lot of people away can be seen as alienation. Hope this clears some things up.
What people don’t seem to understand is that sprint does not belong in a CHIEF halo game. People expect consistency when it comes to sequels, and gameplay is part of that consistency. This is why reach almost gets a free pass on sprint. It was a spin off, and thus was not constrained by the typical halo rules we see in the chief saga, that’s why the music change was excepted and that’s why the gameplay was some what excepted. Could you imagine if halo wars was a sequel to halo 2, or if spartan assault was the sequel to halo 4? People would be outraged and rightly so. Although that is an extreme example of gameplay changing the principle remains the same, halo 1 2 and 3 all have a similar level of consistency in gameplay, and although they are all different they feel like a chief halo game due to player movement remaining constant.
If 343 wants to change up halo with a new art style, type of music, and gameplay that is perfectly fine. But do it in a spin off, not a sequel. The same principle applies to movies, for god sake look at the starwars prequels.

Lol my bad, I meant ~1 mil population about a year after release on the peak. I had Halo 4 on the mind =p.
EDIT: To clarify, that’s based on users logged on daily.
