> My issue here isn’t sprint, I honestly like sprint and I believe it can work within Halo. The problem is 343 were releasing maps that were a bit to small for sprint and thrusters. To be honest with you Sprint can work perfectly if it has a risk when it comes to gameplay. When you are sprinting and you stop there should be a small delay before you can shoot. This will give those who don’t sprint an advantage when it comes to gun battles and would encourage more people to walk instead of run and gun.
> Halo 5 was a utter failure because although shields do not recharge the spartan charge makes noobs win majority of their duals because they run and charge into people. Spartan charge isn’t a normal melee and when you are hit you loose all shielding and majority of your hp.
> Ground pound is also unnecessary and isn’t Halo, along with slide and stabilize. Only reason why I say clamber can stay is because throughout all of the Halo games in the campaign marines, grunts, and other AI’s can climb up onto things so why cant we?
> Halo can work with sprint it is the other spartan abilities that really destroy the game. Along with no splitscreen, lacklucter campaign, missing content, bug filled UI and gametypes.
No No No.
Sprint can work, but not for halo.
You can design maps for sprint, no problem there. But it isn’t halo.
I don’t care how many times I have to repeat myself anymore, I’ve played H2PC for a good amount of years and when playing it I never felt like going at a faster pace. Bungie was even thinking about adding sprint, but they took it out due to pacing issues.
I’m glad sprint was taken out then. Just 343 need to realize that you can have no sprint, and be satisfied. Sprint must go, and the place where all the halo fans can learn is when H3A comes out.
PLEASE 343, DON’T MAKE H3A BROKEN. And when everybody realizes H3 was actually brilliant, then the community realizes that our dreams will come true!
Don’t worry the community can be toxic as much as it can be, but when H3A comes out, they will be silenced.

I was really looking forward to Halo 2: Anniversary. Otherwise, at this point, a LAN party is as close as we’ll get to classic Halo multiplayer gameplay.

So, being able to thruster behind cover when you’re being out-BRed doesn’t take away from the competitive aspect of Halo? Really? Sprinting around a corner and Spartan Charging seems balanced to you?
I’ve literally had to relearn how to play Halo 5, it isn’t Halo.

H3:A will put Halo 4 and Halo 5 to shame, guaranteed. It’ll probably outsell both of them in the first week.

Most of the time in this thread were referring to infantry combat, many people on both sides either use the vehicles argument against it or treat it as a god that can’t be broken for it, but the people that understand what they are talking about mean infantry combat.

> Unfortunately we do not have any concrete evidence as to why halo 5 is failing to maintain its population compared to h3, a mix of many things I am sure. All we can do is speculate and the obvious thing to look at is gameplay. Considering we have documented evidence that gameplay changes to an established tittle can negatively effect its player base it is no surprise that we end up drawing the conclusion that this might have something to do with it.
What is this documented evidence? At best you can find a correlation with change in gameplay and change in popularity, but you’re implying that there’s evidence that changes in gameplay lead to less players, and not the other way around (i.e. dwindling popularity leads to developers trying something new).
I think we’d all be ready to say that “gameplay changes to an established tittle can negatively effect [sic] its player base” because it’s obvious that the possibility exists. But to say that I have evidence—i.e., a case study of a game where there is reasonable evidence that this happened—isn’t something I’d say.

Well no, not really, not solid but convincing.
Ever since halo reach decided to implement abilities people started to go back to halo 3. Well, this still can be interpreted as it wasn’t sprint’s fault, but it was for many reasons, and you are in fact right!. But you can’t deny one of these problems was sprint. So when halo 4 came out, the same thing happened, and on many occasions the population for halo 3 was higher than 4, people still craving that TRUE halo experience. I hope they never do any thing to sprint. It feels horrible not having sprint. Tried it and could not get used to it. I tried to play CE and it was so anoying cause I’d constantly try and sprint. It wasn’t like the game what fit with out it often I would have great distances where I would be walking for ages getting anoyed at how long it was taking to get to A to B.

If you people are trying to say anniversery games will outdo current games, you’re wrong. People want new games. As said already many won’t buy an anniversary simply cuz we’ve already played it. Why waste money on upped graphics? While also chancing 343 changing something about the gameplay? People want a “new” game based off the classics yes, but an anniversary will not outdo a newer halo game regardless if it’s not meeting expectations. Compare Mccs preorders to h4 and h5 and that’ll tell you the anwser on how anniversarys work. H4 and h5 while lacking get higher numbers cuz it’s new. If 343 were to make a h6 based off h3, then there’d be an arguement on it possibly outdoing the newer games, but an anniversary? I just don’t see it.

So you are trying to use speculation as some hard evidence? You also seem to forget that Battlefield and CoD came out around the same time? Saying Halo is failing because of new things is not evidence nor even correct.

I can say that it’s possible sprint has played some part in the decrease of Halo’s popularity. I’d say there’s moderate correlation for the decrease of Halo’s popularity and the deviation of its gameplay from the original. I say the correlation is only moderate because it doesn’t explain why Halo 3 had worse player retention than Halo 2, though this could simply be that large populations behave differently from small ones. At any rate, there’s at least as strong correlation between the fall of Halo and the rise of CoD, so really, the population drop we’ve seen could equally well be simply Halo going out of fashion, as these things sometimes do.
That said, if we assume changes in gameplay to be the reason for Halo’s fall, it’s impossible to deduce anything about sprint’s role in particular, mainly because we haven’t had a single no-sprint Halo since the loss in popularity became visible. For all we know, sprint could be the deciding factor or it could have negligible role. It’s completely impossible to say with the information we have.
I’d love to see how a Halo 3 Anniversary would do actually. Just fix the BR spread and netcode, revamp forge and I’d buy it.
People are hyped about the games they used to love. There are people LITERALLY shelling out $100 just to play the MW remaster. If 343i were to remake H3, that would great.
Or, even better, just remove sprint and the other abilities besides thrust and stabilizer for Halo 6 (tweak them a bit), and whenever you are going in a forward motion for a longer period of time, an animation with no speed increase and delay to shooting kicks in to allow the illusion that you’re sprinting. Add rocket jumping, nade jumping, and ghost jumping back, maybe even a weapon like the storm rifle that can plasma climb, and there you go, depth that requires skill and timing.
