They work well with a slower movement speed because you can’t get away if you’re out in the open or even a little far from cover. But maps like Guardian in Halo 3 would be harder to kill the guy with the shotgun/sniper because they can move faster than the weapon is designed for.

I would like to see how the settings for increased BMS play on old school maps vs Halo 5 maps. Want to see the how they differ and contrast from each other.

So the power weapons would indeed be designed for the game? Ok, then it’s no problem.
And I’m talking about playing Guardian on Halo 3 with an upped movement speed, either they did some changes to damage or health as well or the weapons worked well as they were.

Sprint wont leave guys, get over it, it is just a new mechanic
Guys, I’m going to be completely honest. On Friday I had Halo 3 lan with 6 people total, swords and unlimited nades, we had a blast. I couldn’t use my sword(I’m too op with it and only used nades) :D. Today I tried playing Halo 5 after a 6-month-break. The very first thing that felt very off was aiming, and I’m not talking about aiming other people, I mean just traversing the map was weird and aiming felt off.
Then I felt all that was wrong back then, felt even worse now. Maps that have open areas not meant for battle, if I was not sprinting across one, I was extremely easy to pick off. Little pieces of cover for people to thrust behind. Strafing having absolutely no effect and thrusting is the only way to dodge bullets. Clamber causing the maps to have no flow, meaning you can go from any place to anywhere even if you’re on a completely different horizontal level. Wide halls and stairs So you can utilize thrusters. Ridiculous shotgun range and op smg. One guy kept running around the map picking up the smg and staking up extremely easy kills. People Spartan charging and ground pounding everywhere. Movement felt all over the place and very zigzagy.
After all of this I tested the classic settings, no Spartan abilities, movement buffet to 120% to match sprinting speed, higher acceleration so that strafing made sense and I raised the 110% jump height to 120% so you can make all the jumps at least with crouch jumping. I can’t describe it, it just felt great, the game felt so much faster and more dynamic. Moving around was seamless and jumping didn’t acquire me to face the direction I’m jumping.
I must admit, there have been some good updates. Post game info and statistics have been changed for the better, doubles and multiteam are great additions.

I’ve got to say this argument is never going to go away… Personally I think halo without sprint is better because it allows for better pacing, more interesting map design, as well as better graphics considering the xbox one’s power. I say that because sprint does in fact stretch maps to make them bigger which accentuates the hardware’s limitations. Also I miss maps with man cannons and gravity lifts. Halo 3 really nailed gameplay in my opinion. I think halo could go back to non sprint and do something similar to DOOM and increase base speed a little. Even though MCC is still riddled with bugs I keep finding myself playing it because it has much more interesting and exciting encounters. One of the things I love about classic halo is that everyones speed is the same which requires you to come up with flank routes and predict enemy movement if they decide to run away. This also comes from the map design. I don’t know… right now I say no sprint because I really miss the feel of the original trilogy; but maybe it is map design that is failing us right now… I guess all I can say is that I miss the way halo used to feel. It felt unique and not like every other FPS on the market. I probably would go play DOOM but all the gore and the story don’t really interest me like the halo universe.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS MY OPINION AND IN NO WAY IS MEANT TO INSULT YOU IF YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY THAN I DO.

Very well said and exactly how I feel. What do you think of thrusters if halo removed sprint? I think it could be a good mechanic that would really compliment a Halo 3 style of play.

I very much agree. With the more open style maps of the original trilogy, thruster would work much better.
So, in that way, another ripple effect of sprint is that thruster becomes more of a nuisance than it should be because of the additional cover.

Sorry, I must not have explained well enough. Sprint stretches maps which in turn asks the Xbox to render a lot more especially now that it is 60fps and 1080p. Is isn’t sprint directly but the larger maps because of sprint.

The maps aren’t bigger, empty spaces are bigger, it’s a huge difference

To an extent, but don’t even try to say that maps like Avalanche were small, they were big with good design, 343 assumes that sprint just allows them to have huge maps, there are other aspects of design they miss

Thrusters are not that bad is strafing is relevant without them. As of now the slow movement and acceleration of Halo 5 coupled with high bullet magnetism make strafing futile. What I don’t like about thrusters is the escape-out-of-bad-situation they bring to the table. While I was playing Halo 3 there were moments where I thought to myself " oh damn I could have escaped that death by thrusting sideways or I would have made the jump if had thrusters" then I noticed that those were the moments I would has robbed my enemy a fair kill or that I made a huge mistake and would get no punishment from it. That is how I feel Halo 5 thrusters act as of now. People keeping distance and keeping close to corners to thrust away or face someone unprepared and just thrust away. The ‘think before you act’ is absent from Halo 5. It is strongly going towards the CoD style of first see, first kill.

I didn’t say those maps were small. Within the context of this discussion, sprint arena maps are larger than non-sprint arena maps.

> > >
> > >

> Thrusters are not that bad is strafing is relevant without them. As of now the slow movement and acceleration of Halo 5 coupled with high bullet magnetism make strafing futile. What I don’t like about thrusters is the escape-out-of-bad-situation they bring to the table. While I was playing Halo 3 there were moments where I thought to myself " oh damn I could have escaped that death by thrusting sideways or I would have made the jump if had thrusters" then I noticed that those were the moments I would has robbed my eneI my a fair kill or that I made a huge mistake and would get no punishment from it. That is how I feel Halo 5 thrusters act as of now. People keeping distance and keeping close to corners to thrust away or face someone unprepared and just thrust away. The ‘think before you act’ is absent from Halo 5. It is strongly going towards the CoD style of first see, first kill.
I agree with halo is becoming more of a first to see gets the kill. Truly if it were up to me I wouldn’t include thrusters but people seem hellbent on adding a movement mechanic and I think that would be the better option.

Again they are not necessarily smaller, just not as well scaled, due to you acually fighting at a lower BMS than normal

They’re smaller because the maps were built for that speed, which made them perfectly scaled. Sprint maps are built for the sprint speed, which makes them larger compared to non-sprint maps and larger relative to H5’s gameplay because you’re not always moving at sprint speed.
Your suggestion that sprint maps aren’t necessarily larger would be correct if the maps were built for the BMS. But they’re not, they’re built for a speed you’re not often traveling at, which makes them too big, both literally and relatively.

The maps feel larger because having sprint supports a lower BMS.
