What does sprint bring to those gamemodes that improve on the experience and dont just take away from it?
to that end, what does sprint really take away?

Sprint is good. Less boring.
I have played halo for about 9 years and I prefer having a quicker movement speed. If I only have time to play one match, I want to be able to find the enemy quickly, I don’t want to be running— walking, around for 12 minutes.

Spartans brains process information at a much faster rate than regular humans so everything appears to be happening slower to them. A slow motion game would definitely make me feel badass as I pop off headshots and it would require more strategy because it allows you to react quicker which requires you think up more ways to tackle a situation.
Slow motion? Okay I admit that would be a cool feature but then we get a game that is easier for us and less challenging because, well, we’d win instantly. It wouldn’t give us the feeling of absolute war or grave importance. Yes slow motion could be pretty cool, but probably only at certain moments in Campaign.
But honestly I think people are just too tied towards the old Halo that they cannot accept change even after quite a few years now. Its only logic to have sprint to avoid dying.
Moving off of the lore, I’d like to explore why people can’t accept a movement option and feel that it ruins a game, a tiny option. I don’t know why. Nobody would jog through a battlefield, in tight corners probably you’d walk a bit slower but not if you need to be somewhere quick to help your teamma-and oh! They’re dead and it turns out the enemy team wins after you pop a Mission Victory. What could have saved them? Sprint.
It’s not leaving any time soon. Anyone who believes it is can think again. This is not affecting the gameplay in a bad way at all.

Because not using sprint in a game specifically designed around the use of sprint is putting yourself at a disadvantage. Also, using something and liking something are two entirely different pairs of shoes. I, for example, use public transportation on a daily basis, to get to work, to go grocery shopping, etc. Doesn’t mean that I enjoy sitting in a stinking, crowded bus…

Yeah exactly, I started playing halo CE-3 on my cousins console everytime I went over there I didn’t get an my own Xbox until 2011 so you can’t make assumptions on that, I played just as many hours on someone else’s console than people played the first three on their own.

Nah, man, I’m talking MP. The whole game would be in slow motion and it would force people to really get into the heads to their opponent. You make a move, but he has an idea of what you’re gonna do because it’s in slow motion, but you know he knows and he knows that you know that he knows. It’s really like a game of chess because you have to think so far in advance.

Nobody would lower their weapon in a battlefield. It is ridiculously stupid to give up the means of defending yourself and would get you killed. What could have saved them? Shooting Back!.
.
I am sick and tired of games taking away my combat effectiveness just so they can shoehorn in some flashy animation. Why on earth would I want to not shoot in a first person shooter game? If I wanted a game to run, I’d play Mirror’s Edge.
This has nothing to do with lore, it just happens that sprint is also contradicting preestablished Halo canon, besides being a crappy mechanic.

When reach came out I was upset that it was NOT the halo I was used to. That’s when I started playing COD. Once H5 came out I got back into halo and just accepted sprint. I honestly couldn’t imagine not having it anymore now that iv gotten so used to it. If it were taken out the gameplay would slow down drastically and I would feel like a tank when I’m moving around. To late to take sprint out, with how the game is set up you have to have it.

> Exactly! I am so used to playing fast-paced sprint less shooters on PC like Half-Life, Quake, Counter Strike (although, I wouldn’t say it is completely fast in terms of gameplay, it’s movement feels much faster than modern sprint shooters), etc., that when I went back and played Destiny for a bit, I felt so annoyed by the gameplay because it felt so sluggish having to rely on using sprint to move around all of the time rather than moving at a fast pace and shooting simultaneously.
Exactly. I don’t understand why people think sprint makes games faster. They just equate it to COD and COD is fast so they think sprint makes games fast. Even COD would be a hell of a lot faster with sprint replaced by a fast based movement speed.
Im done reading and responding to this thread. It is so stupid that something so minor as Sprint has become an “issue”. I’m a veteran, and one thing I always felt was missing from Halo was Sprint.
And that’s not because of CoD. I only played Cod4 and Mw2, and had been playing Halo much earlier than that.
If sprint is a big enough “change” for you to stop playing a video game you’ve played for years, then Halo is better off without you. There are some things worth demanding of a developer, and other things that aren’t worth it. This one falls under the latter.
Halo 5 is the closest to the roots of Halo 1-3 than Reach or Halo 4. Chill TF out and enjoy it.
Now let’s talk about more pressing matters like team Doubles. Not this “anti-sprint” BS.

The melding of movement and combat.
No biggie. It’s only the central pillar upon which all halo gameplay was built.

This post is wrong and ignorant in a number of ways.
I also want to say some of the logic is ‘brilliant’. There was no sprinting in the original three games, take out the sprinting mechanism and suddenly the new games will be as good as the old! Just what the hell people?

Who said that?

What does sprint bring to those gamemodes that improve on the experience and dont just take away from it?

Don’t forget map variation. Sprint requires a very specific set of rules to work well. That’s why all of the maps in Halo 5 are so similar and lack the scaling that previous games in the series had. Also vehicles. Remember back in the day when you could occasionally find Mongooses or Warthogs or Ghosts on 4v4 maps? That’s gone. And lastly, alternative movements options like teleporters and man cannons. Maps like Last Resort or Battle Canyon can’t exist with Sprint. It breaks them.

I pretty sure the new spartan abilities (save -Yoinking!- spartan charge) would be GENERALLY accepted in a halo game if they werent accompanied by sprint it would feel more competitive more strategic and would also still be recognizable to the fine tuned experience we got in halo 5. Warzone and customs would be a whole other beast entirely retaining ALL the features that made halo 5 successful would keep warzone great and would also allow more options for custom games, for those people that actually wanted to play in a sprint arena type setting they could actually fire up the in game custom game lobby adjust the filter and be good to go! lets face it, sprint has NO place in competitive halo and to argue that it does would just be absurd. this would allow arena maps to continue to be designed the PROPER way and please the vets and basically everyone whos willing to give it a chance and you wouldnt lose much of your sprint loving audience at all because there would still be sprint in the game it would just take a backseat!

You still have nothing to base the claim on. It is still the equivalent of walking into your kitchen in the morning and seeing a plate of French toast and assuming a unicorn with a glittering mane made it for you.
