The sprint discussion thread

Does it have to “evolve” into the “modern shooter” direction though?

> People have this stupid misconception that Halo’s been declining because of added features, but the reality is that they’re the only thing keeping the franchise alive to compete against the much larger ocean of FPS competition now. Nostalgia’s great, but go play MCC if you want it. H2 was my favorite game of all time, but I can still see the reality.

theres your problem, halo should be setting its own trends and letting others follow. That’s how you grow your franchise. Following other trends will always leave you behind the one that started that trend, because it’s their thing, they started it.

Why/how do kids like you keep making posts like this, while saying nothing of substance? I would love to see how many of the posts keeping this thread alive are idiotic comments like yours complaining that it’s still here. I would wager that the number is pretty large.

Why does sprint just have to be eliminated? In halo 4, there were those who hated it and those who loved it, so 343 made a compromise for halo 5. You guys still aren’t happy after the compromise. Besides its removal, how else will you compromise?

For there to be a meaningful discussion on further compromising, I think it’d be best to lay out what each side wants.

With that said, what aspects of Sprint do you like in Halo?

I also can’t help but think it’s ironic that we’re talking about compromising on a mechanic that fundamentally compromises part of how Halo worked.

Why compromise on something many feel is fundamentally a mechanic regression? No need to compromise on loadouts which were universally mocked for their attempt at appeasing other game’s crowds. I for one feel sprint is antithetical to the core of what makes halo a great shooter.

Agreed. This is the dumbest forum I’ve seen but it keeps coming back. It’s stupid, sprint is awesome! So dude that keeps doing it please just shut up and deal with sprint.

Keeping thruster and clamber, having 120/115 BMS instead of 100/110 (everyone benefits from that, 120 is just a little slower than sprint) and probably keeping micro transactions. Probably not everyone pro sprint wants those things but that seems pretty good

This forum/thread is here for discussion about things like sprint in this case. If you don’t like that then don’t use waypoint

There was no need to compromise loadouts because as you said they were universally hated. About half the community likes sprint and about half doesn’t, so there absolutely needs to be a compromise.

Alright here are the things I like about it:
-The risk-reward factor of it
-How you can move faster than the base speed to reach to a tactical position faster
-Mainly just the fact that their are now 3 speeds (crouching, base, and sprint) which adds variety and more strategies that can be implemented into the game.

I don’t really think that sprint compromises how halo works, but anyways, what do you not like about sprint?

That’s not sprint, those are other new mechanics, and unfortunately, your idea would remove it (and there’s a lot of people who don’t want that). I’m trying to get a compromise on sprint, not the other Spartan Abilities.

The ability to sprint in any direction without facing it, and have full use of melee guns and grenades while sprinting and a control layout that keeps sprint permanently on.

That’s not sprint it’s just the base speed.

Alright, here are the things I don’t like about it:

  • Optimal movement is limited only to the direction you’re facing (you cannot sprint side-to-side, backwards, etc.)
  • To move optimally, you have to give up your ability to deal damage. Aside from the obvious escape/pursuit dilemma this creates, it goes against Halo’s methodology of movement effectiveness and combat effectiveness never impairing each other.

Honestly, I don’t mind having another movement speed available, nor do I mind having a risk/reward trade-off. I just take issue with what the trade-offs associated with a Sprint mechanic are (in relation to Halo’s established gameplay).

Earlier in this thread, I typed up what I believe could be a suitable compromise/replacement. I’ll probably quote it when I get home (on cellphone now and don’t feel like typing it out again).

No, it’s sprint speed

what makes an argument competent?

Not being a one line biased opinion with no reasoning behind it, no “I don’t like sprint” or “sprint is cool”.

Sprint is fine as it is.
