Why would anyone enjoy pressing a button to put their gun down in a first person SHOOTER. That’s weird.
keep it classic. when sprint was something nobody knew about.
Can anyone explain why sprint is good and enjoyable aside from making game feel faster?

In gameplay terms, it can teleport you any place on the map in an instant, but it has a potential chance to overload and kill you, since it’s a prototype technology. The further you want to travel, the higher the probability it backfires/the larger the explosion and damage to the Spartan. Pro-sprinters get places faster and can have their risk-reward-system, Anti-sprinters get their run-and-gun back with TTK and weapons damage no longer being tailored for two movement speeds and everybody’s happy.

On the other hand, it doesn’t disrupt combat by forcing players to run around like headless chicken for half a minute. And it doesn’t create a secondary movement speed that needs to be considered when balancing weapon output/TTK. It basically has all the advantages of sprint without the drawbacks.
>
> So what about this suggestion is impractical? Please, do enlighten me.
Just a question have you even played Halo 5: Guardians, or are you basing this sprint thread off previous iterations found in Halo: Reach or Halo 4? I will enlighten afterwards…
I just don’t understand why sprint is so “game breaking” to some. One mechanic doesn’t make or break or even define a game. Halo is great with and without sprint. H5 plays great and H2A played great…
We will see what it’s coming on halo 6… But now there are only arguments and speculations, we won’t know until halo 6 has been completed

the frequency of engagement is related to getting kills, but not equivalent. you can engage often but never get a kill. if you want to define pace as game length thats probably perferable, as its more easily tested and measured.

given the great number of popular and enjoyable fps games on the market that allow you to sprint (and so lower your weapon) your disingenuos question is laughable.

ARENA shooter. Should have specified. The vast majority of those games (especially the most popular ones, like CoD and Battlefied), are not arena shooters, and have much lower kill times. And they never DIDN’T have sprint. The games were designed from inception with sprint in mind/around sprint. It works within the framework of the game and how it’s designed. It’s not shoehorned in well after the fact solely to appeal to casuals and CoD kids. It actually serves a purpose, unlike in Halo. What gameplay problem was present in traditional Halo that was needed to be remedied by sprint?
Stop reaching for every little morsel you can in a sad attempt to bolster a bad argument for a bad mechanic. You’ve been doing this for like 2 years. It’s getting old.

Doesn’t have to be the equivalent. More frequent engagements means more chances to die and often results in dying more than less frequent engagements because obviously, less frequent engagements means there’s less chances to die.
Seems like common sense to me, though I guess you don’t have to agree.

yes. you should have specified arena shooter. Though you then have the issue of halo not being a pure arena shooter from the get-go. Then you have the issue that attempting to continue halo as an arena shooter may not be the best idea for its popularity.
you also have the issue that I havent put forth an argument for sprint.

its not a question of agreement. kills are not necessarily the result of your definition, which is why I suggested that game length be the definition of pace. in a slayer match kills determine its length. this is easily measured.

I’ve already stated my opinion. If you want to see it, just dig. But if you’re too lazy, here’s what I said: “Halo 3 is proof that Halo doesn’t need sprint”. Now notice, I said need… I personally don’t hate it, but I would be lying if I said that I didn’t like Halo more without sprint.

i think this is an interesting point. I hated H3, but loved both CE and 2. overall i prefer the older games, but I find the weapon balance of both 4 and 5 more preferable. older maps were better. new thruster is so much fun.
its a weird place to be where the new stuff is so appealing while simultaneously frustrating.

> I enjoy the sprint myself. I know others may disagree. Maybe they can create a playlist that disables the sprint function for who don’t want it. Just a thought.
I totaly agree on that i like sprint, but having a playlist for no sprint everyone would be happy!
I’d suggest watching this, if not for the point it makes, but for a good laugh. Sprinting has not ruined halo in anyway or form. 343 has worked their hardest on a game that they care very much about, and would like to see it do well. Not just because this is their job, but because they are all active halo fans.
You can say what you’d like about sprinting, or the campaign being nothing like what it was intended to be. But at the end of the day, they totally nailed the gameplay aspect of Halo 5.
For example:
Warzone could not be more fun (regardless of the inconsistent reqs)
Arena is balanced and gives the competitive edge that all halo games need.
The campaign (however off course from halo 4 (and dialogue)) is absolutely beautiful. 343 obviously put blood sweat and tears into making the areas seem like they’re so much more.
Halo 5 isn’t a bad game. And just because it wasn’t good in the same way Halo 1,2,3 were, doesn’t make it a bad game.
I’m so terribly sorry that people cant see this. Taking out the sprint mechanic wont change anything about the game, besides the pacing.
And 343… if you see this… keep up the good work.
And also take your time on Halo 6. It’s what the fans want.

The above link is my opinion on how to improve sprint in Halo 6. Essentially it’s returning Halo to weapons always ready to fire. But it still has sprint. Imagine Halo 5 if you didn’t lower your weapon. It would feel much more like an older Arena style game, but still have sprint that seems fairly logical. It’s also lore friendly.

Despite what you might think, Sprint’s inclusion limits players’ movement by needlessly tying movement to the direction the players’ facing and disabling offensive abilities.
With maps being designed with the mechanic in mind, players are encouraged/forced to sprint to make certain jumps, take certain routes, and get from cover to cover quickly enough to survive. This becomes problematic because you can only move forward AND cannot fire/throw/melee while sprinting.
You can argue that Halo 5 plays well, but that’s not really even the argument being made here. The issue that anti-Sprinters argue is that it doesn’t play like Halo. Can you give any reasoning as to how or why the limitations Sprint imposes on players and map design are a positive change for Halo?

That’s a pretty solid Idea, I still think that no sprint would be better because then you could move fast backwards, sideways, diagonal, etc; but I think that this forum needs more well constructed thoughts and Ideas on the issue like displayed here.
