Newer generations of gamers (me included) who didn’t grow up with halo are used to fast paced games such as battlefield, cod, and just about every other fps. It’s hard for a slow paced game like the older halos and even the newer ones to attract these gamers so they added sprint. To be honest I like sprint when I don’t have it I feel like a turtle with a gun. Sure you might not like it but your not everyone. 343 also has to appeal to the newer generations as well. Don’t get me wrong I had fun playing halo 3(my first halo and firs Xbox game) but ounce I got to other games like battlefield and even cod I noticed how slow the gameplay actually was.

Care to explain why it’s not? Just because it doesn’t have cheap, gimmicky abilities like Halo 5 doesn’t mean it’s not fast, let alone the fastest.

He wasn’t evil enough, he was just angry, I mean someone who just wants to watch the world (galaxy?) burn for the glory of satan, not really angry with the galaxy folks. Well maybe the flood is just plain evil, but their motivations is hunger, I was thinking someone more like the joker in the dark knight, someone truly crazy.

When I say hardcore fans I mean people who get all jumpy for any minor changes, the think any changes will make the game lose its identity. Even in Halo 5 I still feel the halo vibe, too bad the campaign was bad IMO.

the story was not the best that´s the truth, but the MP is really great and sprint is good

i dont know how two people can play the same game for that long and have such vastly different experiances…its amazing

Well thinking about it no one would be stupid enough to allow themselves to die because they simply couldn’t sprint across a path from an enemy, refocus and adjust their attention. Also, I’d like to know why it hurts the lore, oh grand and glorious OP.

Its honestly to late. I hated sprint when it came out in reach. I was a god at halo 3 and absolutely loved every aspect of the game. When reach came out I was upset that it was NOT the halo I was used to. That’s when I started playing COD. Once H5 came out I got back into halo and just accepted sprint. I honestly couldn’t imagine not having it anymore now that iv gotten so used to it. If it were taken out the gameplay would slow down drastically and I would feel like a tank when I’m moving around. To late to take sprint out, with how the game is set up you have to have it.

The OP made a big argument when he created this thread/topic, maybe we should all just stop arguing and wasting our time.

And yet when I play a sprintless game with fast movement like doom and come back to h5 it feels incredibly slow.

Sprint is not the only (or best) way to make a game feel faster.

I pretty sure the new spartan abilities (save -Yoinking!- spartan charge) would be GENERALLY accepted in a halo game if they werent accompanied by sprint it would feel more competitive more strategic and would also still be recognizable to the fine tuned experience we got in halo 5. Warzone and customs would be a whole other beast entirely retaining ALL the features that made halo 5 successful would keep warzone great and would also allow more options for custom games, for those people that actually wanted to play in a sprint arena type setting they could actually fire up the in game custom game lobby adjust the filter and be good to go! lets face it, sprint has NO place in competitive halo and to argue that it does would just be absurd. this would allow arena maps to continue to be designed the PROPER way and please the vets and basically everyone whos willing to give it a chance and you wouldnt lose much of your sprint loving audience at all because there would still be sprint in the game it would just take a backseat!

> B: There has never been a clear answer as to why people think two geared movement isn’t ‘competitive’. Nor do I consider competitiveness to be the be all and end all of Halo. It has a role, but that isn’t all halo is as h5 has shown to some degree.
> C: You call any position other than yours ‘absurd’ though you fail to demonstrate how.
> D: Loudly proclaiming that sprint has no place in ‘competitive’ halo is a claim, not an argument. You need to back up your claim if it is to be taken seriously.
> E: Halo 5 has map design problems, but they don’t really center around sprint. They center around size, spawning, blind corners, and lack of variety.
> F: As a Halo veteran with no distaste for sprint, this argument form ignorance that the loss of population overtime is due to sprint that has been flooding the forum of late is getting tiresome. You still have nothing to base the claim on. It is still the equivalent of walking into your kitchen in the morning and seeing a plate of French toast and assuming a unicorn with a glittering mane made it for you.

To point A: there is a sprint camp and an anti-sprint camp, so regardless what happens, some won’t like it, thats just life
To points B/D: I think that based on Halo: Reach, we can see that the competitive scene and the game itself was improved when sprint (and bloom, but not an issue now) was removed
To point E: man oh man do I agree, sprint is maybe only 5% of the problems with the maps
I think that it is very important to make a game that runs smoothly on the competitive scene, then create social playlists and other types of things (such as warzone, which i think is a huge success) to cater to the broader, more social audience

Exactly! I am so used to playing fast-paced sprint less shooters on PC like Half-Life, Quake, Counter Strike (although, I wouldn’t say it is completely fast in terms of gameplay, it’s movement feels much faster than modern sprint shooters), etc., that when I went back and played Destiny for a bit, I felt so annoyed by the gameplay because it felt so sluggish having to rely on using sprint to move around all of the time rather than moving at a fast pace and shooting simultaneously.

It would take an eternity to cross the map. In campaign when I go back and play Halo 1 through 3 it feels slow paced now to an almost unbearable amount. Also new players who are entering into the franchise would not be entertained by the slower game play that no sprint offers.

> > > > > > > > > I actually made it a point to play my first Warzone match without sprinting once. It worked just fine, even with Halo 5’s gimped base movement speed. If new players to the franchise can’t handle moving a little slower(like in the gameplay Halo was built on), then Halo just isn’t the franchise for them. That’s ok though. Not everyone is going to be a Halo fan. But, we shouldn’t be turning away long time fans of the franchise in hopes of maybe pleasing some newcomers. That has been the strategy for over half a decade now, and the population shows that it isn’t working. Trying to change and overhaul a working formula is not the way to continue a franchise.

Just because the ability to code a sprint feature was not a thing or available in the past means we should ignore it now? Human beings can run, so why can we not run in games? If this was a platformer or adventure game you would do it with how fast you move the joystick.

A Spartan would use his wits and use his environment to his advantage if he needed to escape all while firing back at the enemy to keep them at bay if need be. Running away with his weapon down when another enemy can just as easily be right around the corner would leave him defenseless. Sprinting within the confines of enclosed areas (the Arena maps) where armed enemies are prowling is careless and irresponsible.

Sure lets just crawl everywhere.

As far as I’m concerned.Sprinting is fine just the way it is.

Pssh, if they took out sprint they would increase the base speed movement. Doom for example (loved the campaign) it is not slow what so ever. Tried the mp, same way, just crap due to weapons.

> 2533274818909651;496:

Exactly. Like your dragging a car around everywhere you go. Now a days the FPSs are going to get more fast paced. It wont get taken out, I wish people would stop complaining about something that has a snowball chance in hell of getting taken out. Its like saying frag grenades are to bouncy. Adapt and get good or find something that better suits your needs.
