The sprint discussion thread

Yes and don’t spam and post so.etching to this arguement. What do you think of sprint? Is it a good or bad mechanic?

All that I am saying is that this one feature should not be the basis that “Halo is not Halo.” This one feature is the biggest debated topic regarding this game where other franchises are adding much more drastic movement changes that its to the point where it does not even play like the games that came before it.

I think this topic is a tad over blown as I’ve literally know people who stopping playing halo because they added a sprint button, but go to Call of Duty where it literally plays completely different compared to the games before it and go “THIS IS AWESOME.”

What made Halo “Halo” was its beautiful story and hidden secrets to the rings itself. And you will find most players prefer to fight the covenant back in thier glory days rather then our glowing yellow friends

Last time I checked the Covenant are still in Halo, although I do believe their needed to be more in Halo 5…they are still there. And with the defeat of the Storm Covenant, I just see that as a way that gives more creativity to re-desgin and reshape the covenant or create a new faction all-together. I don’t mind fighting the Promethean’s at all, but Grunts, Elites etc arent going anywhere…I mean they introduced a Grunt Mech into Firefight, I think in Halo 6’s campaign we will fight them.

Point is…Grunt Birthday Party is still going to be in the game. Don’t want to get to far off topic but when the thread is titled " The removal of Sprint will make Halo, Hale again" is the topic, your point belongs in another thread.

Agreed.

Sprint is not that bad.

It changed the game for the better. Changed your fire fight encounters. it was needed to add a little variety to the game after so many years.

Halo was so much better when the forerunners where mysterious beings that we knew nothing about and cheif was the only thing standing between humanity and extinction. I honestly think the inclusion of the promethians was a mistake

People are still complaining about sprint? Do people even play the game before they type or are people just mad that they suck at halo now?

why should I still play a game on a regular basis that I don’t enjoy? It’s not about sucking or not sucking at it, it’s about enjoying or not enjoying the way a game is beeing played/the game has changed…but seeing how you seem to measure your fun by success, I highly doubt you will understand what it is like to have a passion for something…

Ive been playing halo forever now i can honestly say i dont understand the anger over sprint. I have yet to come across a single death in multiplayer where i thought OMG SPRINT SUCKS! You cant just sprint around you will die its balanced perfectly imo

Sprint makes Halo Halo. Welcome to the new century of gaming. Everything is fast paced

i343 could add a mechanic that is the most balanced mechanic in the world, but it does not mean I have to like it. Liking mechanics have to me been very little to do with balance and very much what they do to gameplay, because balance can be achieved, in most cases, but gameplay effects are why the mechanics are introduced in the first place.

I dislike how it empowers outplayed players with the touch of a single button.
I dislike how it affects map design to some degrees
I dislike how I have to press a button to maximise the effectiveness of my map navigation speed, taking up a button that could be used for something else.
I dislike that I put my weapon down to achieve the highest forward momentum.

If you don’t understand, that’s your issue, I have no problems understanding why people like sprint, thing is I just don’t agree with them.

Did you honestly think that the forerunners were not going to take on a bigger role then they have now? It was inevitable that they were going to be flushed out more considering pretty the whole point of the majority of the games is to uncover more about them (Minus Reach and ODST). It was going to happen; I’m hoping that the Didact is still kicking around somewhere, or more Forerunners for that matter. We only saw one in Halo 4, and that was one of the highlights for me. The more we see; the more questions can be asked…which means more mystery.

With ALL That aside, we need to stick to the point of this thread…if were going to have this debate, lets start a new thread people.

It doesn’t make much sense for spartans to not sprint. I mean in all the books I’ve read they sprint. I meam come on, they’re super soldiers. XD the problem here isn’t sprint, its map design, maps should be bigger granted. But when you literally have superhuman strength then why Shouldn’t you be able to run. XD looking back to all the other halo, master chief did it, but never in game. Watch the clips of halo 2 and he doesn’t a lot. So the problem really comes down to map design more than sprint. As sprint being the problem makes no sense XD

No sprint = No Warzone [or any large scale map/gametype]

Sprint is not required to make something fast paced. Look at the last millenium.

And it doesn’t make sense that tjey can’t prone or that they die from standard ballistic bullets to the body even unshielded, atleast less bullets than an AR mag.

This is so untrue. There are map assets that can handle map traversal.

They can also shoot while sprinting in all of those books

So I guess it was just my imagination when I was playing BTB in the original Halos?

BTB maps in other games were 1/4 the size of current warzone maps

Welcome to classic halo, the game that sets its own trends rather then following what the rest of “modern” gaming does

1)My sarcasm meter is broken so forgive me, but are you messing with me? You are saying it empowers outplayed players? How if you are getting destroyed by someone you can make an attempt to get away now, but at a cost. If you see someone running you know that person is either
A) Low on health because hes running for his life
B) at a disadvantage because you will draw your weapon first.
It adds a new element of the game because, although this is my opinion, what makes a halo 5 player good to great is when you realize you are NOT supposed to be sprinting everywhere. I walk around knowing someone may sprint around the corner and i can easily take them out. edit not implying i am great at halo 5 lol
2) Map design? I dont understand this at all there have been huge maps in halo forever now with or without sprint are you saying they are now too big so you can sprint around?
3)Taking up a button…stretching a bit here
4)And you are mad that while sprinting you cant just start blasting people? You are mad at the disadvantage put in to the game to balance it out?
I dont think any of your points make sense. I do agree that some people like slower gameplay for FPS in general and so do i. I played a ton of halo 2 and i wish i could still play it wink wink 343 please fix MCC but for a AAA halo game to come out as slow as halo 2 or 3 i think would be insane. When i attempt to go back and play older halos i cant believe how slow they actually were. I do think 343 is missing on a huge opportunity to make an old school playlist with no abilities or sprint i think that would be fun, but i also dont believe sprint ruins halo 5 i think peoples nostalgia is ruining it for them.
