The sprint discussion thread

> Ok. Sure. Just go play a 1:1 remake of a classic Halo map and then we can talk about how sprint BY NECESSITY results in maps that are elongated and cluttered in ways that negatively impact the flow of the game. This is not being unimaginative. It is the limitations imposed on map design by having sprint in a Halo game. The same is true of clamber. So, basically, no. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

It’s well known that sprint necessitates larger and more open maps, but do you have a convincing argument why this should be considered poor design? Also, can you elaborate on what you mean by “cluttered”? Because what I generally consider as “clutter” has no relation to sprint and, in fact, certain type of clutter is exactly what you want to avoid with sprint because you want those long sightlines.

That is a clip of a no sprint “classic” custom game. Does that look slow to you? Because it looks much faster than default H5 to me.

Note that that is not me playing. I just saw it somewhere else

Yep it is and already growing faster by the day. It might even out grow the Elite thread.

I can see that happening for sure. It’s really a big topic to be discussion. Sprint really changed how things are played

Speaking of the Elite thread, why isn’t that one being put on the popular topics when it’s bigger than this one?

No clue. Probably because no one hasn’t post in it in like a couple hours.

> > Sprint would have to be in all modes or not in any as it would generally become confusing alternating between the different game modes. Also sprint is competitive as to the fact it adds another layer of mechanics to how the game works (basically how you can move around the map and things). It is not game breaking or anything and most people have a problem with it because they want to complain about change.
>
>
> This exactly. While I’m firmly in the anti-sprint camp, I do not support having two different play styles mixed throughout the multiplayer. This is one of the biggest issues with Reach’s matchmaking, and it noticeably splits the community with duplicate playlists with only minor differences.
>
> I would argue that sprint takes away from the competitive aspect of the game. It separates movement from combat, and creates a system where the person that shoots first is more likely to win the encounter when compared to previous games in the series. It is not game breaking, but it fundamentally changes the game in a way that makes it play and feel unlike Halo. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it one hundred times. Change for the sake of change is not a good thing. Change that hurts the way that the game plays and feels is not a good thing, and the community has the job of helping make sure the series can be the best it can be.
>
> It’s not like it’s just a handful of people complaining. It is a significant part of the community. I’m tired of people dismissing them as “343i hating trolls.” The anti-sprint community has gone in depth on how it negatively impacts the game, while the pro-sprint group have basically said, “but I like it!” I’m happy that you like it, but it hurts the game and makes it feel like every other fps that has been released in the last 10 years. It’s a dull and boring mechanic, and when you look at the future of the first person shooter genre it is actually moving away from sprint with games like Overwatch and Doom, so adding it is no longer about “modernizing” the game. It is purely about wanting a mechanic that goes against what the original intention of the series was, and destroys the pillars that kept it afloat in the fps market.

Thank you for actually giving a more thorough reason as why not to have sprint but for me in every halo the person who shoots first almost always wins if they are not bad at the game. Personally I like it as I said I feel like it adds different styles to use but whichever they choose for halo 6 I’ll have no problem with as long as it isn’t split

If you look at the popular topics, you see that it’s clearly some function of post frequency, perhaps also how many views the thread is getting. Post count doesn’t seem to be much of a factor. Which makes sense because weighing post frequency over post count makes it easier for new threads to get into the popular topics.

I feel that, at this point both of said topics should be stickied.

I agree. I made a thread that they should made like some Official mega thread slot on Waypoint and Monitors thought it was a interesting idea.

Megathreads are where topics go to die. No one wants to bother making a good post in a thread where your post is just going to get buried in hundreds of inane one-line posts.

The people you GUY’s need to convince are the game developers(343), why to take out sprint. Everyone can argue their points and make valid ones too but that is as as far as it will go, at least here on this forum. Everyone in this so called community knows about all these issues but what good is that if we cant change the game ourselves? the people that should be answering the question" Why does Sprint need to be in the game" IS 343, NOT US!!! but them. My opinion is drill THEM!!! until you get an answer and stop with these threads that constantly keeps people bashing on each other. And if there is never a reply in regards to sprint by 343…what do think that means? we already know this…

I hope you guys know that its never going to be removed. Halo needed that modernization to it. Halo 5 is the only game where I truly feel like a Spartan. Compared Chief in Halo 2 to a Marine in Halo 2, the only difference between you and him is that you are stronger and more skilled, Where as in Halo 5, you are stronger, skilled, faster and have tons of abilities at your disposal. For the first time in Halo, I can say that when I play this game I feel like a spartan. Taking it away takes away what a spartan is supposed to be. Plus at this point there are far more players that would be angry if it was removed, this discussion has gone on far to long, and its pretty annoying at this point.

How about no sprint, you just run much faster than they do by default and we keep a few of the abilities. Seriously it isn’t that hard to make both sides happy here. The only thing we’re stubborn about is sprint as a mechanic and maybe Spartan charge but that’s a person by person basis.

This thread doesn’t even count for the people who don’t get on Waypoint. Also, the incredibly large Halo population that died out when Sprint was first incorporated. I say remove it, and bring the majority back. I see far more rants about sprint than I do praises. Just look at YouTube. Other than the 343 suck-ups, most YouTubers who give genuine feedback complain about sprint (and other features currently missing form the game).

H5 feels old, dated and slow compared to newer games that have no sprint like overwatch and doom. Not to mention h5 classic settings. In H5 I feel.like regular soldier with shields. In doom I feel like a super soldier. Being able to move quickly in all directions while shooting.

No sprint doesn’t have to mean slow movement.
