It was a joke referring to the same 10 people post bumping this thread way past its death.
My persinnal opinion: I love halo five. I don’t play it everyday every month because there are other great games to play. I think sprint is a shadow to hide behind for every one looking to blame 343 for something. That’s just me, no one rip me apart for it.
P.s. overall, the community remains a good , large , positive and hilarious at times group of nerds.
Sprint helps you get away the spartan the abilities were cool but not as usefull as constant sprint

Obviously neither side has concrete proof (we can’t possibly determine why players still play and why they don’t), but player retention has been on a major downward spiral since H4. That’s something you just can’t ignore/dismiss.

Not to mention, it’s impossible to attach significance to any single mechanic when so much has changed. Not only in Halo, but also in the shooter landscape around it. The population data only tells the popularity has decreased over the years, but it offers no explanation as to why that is.

I’d possibly be more inclined to believe those results, had the bigger poll from the Halo feedback program not released with so drastically conflicting results. It’s, of course, debatable whether the question was posed neutrally enough to not skew the results. Not to mention that we have to consider the demographics of these polls. TeamBeyond is a very competitive community, so it’s not surprise that almost no one there wants sprint, but it certainly doesn’t represent the average Halo player. Halo Waypoint and /r/Halo are possibly more well rounded, but Waypoint at least has bias towards people with the sole purpose of reporting what they think are problems. And if my memory serves, somebody in the competitive community tweeted that Waypoint poll, which is why it got such an unusually high amount of responses. However, as a result, it might also be biased towards competitive players.
Sampling an unbiased group is a really difficult thing to do. That’s why I don’t put a huge amount of importance on any of these polls. An in-game poll is probably the best you could do in an ideal situation, though even there is the danger of bias towards people who’ve stuck around, and therefore are more likely to like all the mechanics the game has to offer.
We have to remind ourselves that when we speak of players in general, we’re speaking of a group of millions in size, most of whom likely aren’t even hardcore Halo fans. If predicting this group was as easy as some people want to believe, we’d always know what the next big game is going to be, and no triple-A game would ever be unsuccessful.

> I have to agree that the pistol in Halo 3 was probably the worst pistol in Halo history and next to useless. Although Swat is completely skill (and connection) based. I don’t know if this is true, but I think what you were talking about that the hit-boxes are very small was because of the fact that instead of using hitscan (if you fire, whatever is in your reticle takes damage) the game used projectile bullets that had to travel, albeit very fast, to it’s target. I personally feel like projectile bullets are better for Halo because in open maps like Sandtrap, if the game used hitscan, if you were in an open area it was a death sentence. Anyone could easily land every hit with their BR on you and it would be near impossible to survive. And I, personally, again, think that sprint doesn’t belong in Halo, and not because of anything that seriously affects gameplay. If Halo didn’t have sprint, it would be drastically different compared to games like CoD and Battlefield, and it would be its own unique experience, which I deeply value in a game. However, I’m not completely against thrusters from Halo 5. I think that abilities like Spartan charge, ground pound, sliding, and clamber don’t belong in Halo, but thrusters on their own would make the game very fun, but still simple. Only basic movements and the ability to dodge around grenades and stuff.

> One more:
> Listen, I don’t hate Smart-scope. But why do I float in the air when I use it?! Why doesn’t my Spartan do that any other time? It makes no sense!!
H2 swat was lots of fun but in H3 I rarely even got a point blank range kill even when I meleed. The BR in H5 is the reason why btb isn’t fun anymore because it has a sniper reticul and the shots even look like sniper shots! When I try getting cross map kills with the H2 BR it’s harder because it works differently and the shots are less likely to get the head, the H4 BR was basically the same as the H2 BR with a different skin. As for the new abilities they’re mostly there to counter the pin point accuracy of the BR and pistol and I hated bouncing off ledges in the older Halos especially in CE when I just wanted that -Yoinking!- rocket launcher on damnation. If you don’t like floating when you zoom you can turn that on and off while playing! You just go to that mini menu in-game that gives you the option to leave and you go to controls and you can turn that off.
Are you kidding? Sprint has a HUGE part of multiplayer in Halo 5. you can run away from the enemy faster, you can go for the assassinations faster, they can get places faster, get to the special weapons faster, and spartan charge enemies (Yes granted that you said that it would be a good add-in to the other game). It’s absurd thinking that it DOESN’T have an effect on Halo multiplayer. Agreed that it can be annoying, it is Although, have it customizable in custom games would be a great add on. Spartan abilities, like in Reach, made me think that Reach has the best online matchmaking in all of Halo (Yes, I’m saying it de-throned Halo 2). If we had something like Reach, that would make Halo 6 a great game.
All you gotta do is not sprint. Most people that like sprint play better and find better ways to get around while people who dont sprint take basic ways to get somewhere

Newer generations of gamers (me included) who didn’t grow up with halo are used to fast paced games such as battlefield, cod, and just about every other fps. It’s hard for a slow paced game like the older halos and even the newer ones to attract the gamers so they added sprint. To be honest I like sprint when I don’t have it I feel like a turtle with a gun. Sure you might not like it but your not everyone. 343 also has to appeal to the newer generations as well.

Everyone and their mother says the new Doom game is one of the fastest paced games out now and it has no sprint. The masses don’t know what they want, they only think they know, that’s why it’s 343’s job to show you want you want. Making a fast paced game without sprint is insanely easy, but nobody - including the devs - cares to think for themselves.
Doom is nothing but pure sprint, only difference is that your weapon does not lower. Seriously, crazy fast. If that is not sprinting, I dont know what is. The option to walk or run is natural. You would not be at good aiming while running, and that is a fact.
I am also not rhe biggest fan of Halo 5, but sprint has nothing to do with the problems that plague the future of Halo.

I’m curious, how would you define sprint as a gameplay mechanic? If running in Doom is sprinting, is Halo with 200% movement speed sprinting, too? You see, there might be a conflict of definitions here as for many people the definition of sprint includes having to lower your weapon. If you don’t need to lower your weapon, there’s no sprint.

Wait, why would people get confused that sprinting includes lowering your weapon? We had lowering our weapons since CE and in Red vs Blue.

Honest question. I define sprint as moving at a speed obviously faster than a walking pace. The lowering weapon “sprint” in a game only signifies that there is a distinct differeance in walking and running within the games physics, which genrally implies that most things are less accurate at accelerated speeds.

>
> Halo was so popular because it was on the popular console at the time with little competition. Due to the halo fans eye of the series at this moment in time, many PlayStation players see no incentive in purchasing an Xbox because the past two halo games have been played up to be the worst in the franchise.
>
> Dont kid yourself in thinking that people aren’t buying halo 5 because sprint is in it.
At release of H5G, the XBone had more units sold than the 360 at the time when Halo 3 was released, yet the game itself only sold half as many copies as its predecessor.
And stop it with this “no competition” bogus, Halo 3 had just as much if not more competition than H5G. It released against CoD4, the Orange Box and Bioshock, Gears of War was less than a year old, and games like Frontlines: Fuel of War, Quake Wars and R6 Vegas 2 were just around the corner. It just sold better because it was the better game, that’s it.

You know that the Spartans’ “walking pace” in the games is 16 miles per hour, right?

Ok, even though I am not sold on their top speed of sprint, they are moving much faster at 24 mph, so by moving faster their coordination would decreasee, correct?

The lore is ridiculously crazy though, they have been recorded to run at 60 mph on numerous occasion (Spartan IIs) and 30 mph (Spartan IV). If anything, sprint has been nerfed quite a bit if not severely to create a balanced game play.
