The sprint discussion thread

Holy crap this topic will never end, there’s 170 pages of this stupid topic, to be honest I think this is the largest discussion about halo 5, maybe even across all games! I don’t see any reason to go back a step, for the last time, Sprint is here and its here to stay, if you can’t accept that than go back to mc collection matchmaking.

Are you going to argue the mechanic or popularity? Are we to ignore halo 3s popularity then if were working in your line of reasoning? Keep on topic were discussing the mechanic and its relevance to gameplay.

CE was much faster paced than h5 and had no sprint with bigger maps

Pretty much the same things were said about:
-Dual Wielding
-Armor Abilities
-Custom Loadouts
-Global and Personal Ordnance
-Flinch
-Bloom

Sprint is a stale mechanic, its time to get with the times. We have the technology to make maps better without movement and combat. Its 2016 for skrillix sake.

We should have 2 separate playlists one with sprint one without it.

the age of the mechanics is irrelevant, it’s the change they make in gameplay, if you can find any positive things that come from sprint besides “immersion” then please let us know

I’m sure having to aim can be a hindrance so let’s just make it so every time you pull the trigger you hit someone! Crouching has been around for awhile so we should just get rid of that stale old mechanic!

If you can’t live with a -Yoinking!- mechanic then you need to not take video games so seriously! Also poor map design isn’t the result of a mechanic but brainless devs.

> Those who argue for no sprint in Halo aren’t using the age of mechanics for justifying their inclusion/removal.

Maybe you haven’t been paying attention to this thread or the arguments against sprint because MANY people have said that sprint is a stale old mechanic.

Would a majority vote have any say in this?

A large portion of people that want sprint removed acually understand how it affects gameplay, which is all negative except for immersion. If you have a good reason for why we should have sprint please let us know.

I am permitted to have a dialogue about how mechanics are implemented in the products I purchase. This is a halo forum, why are you defending something like sprint so vehemently? Its just a game, no need to take it seriously, just have your points and continue a dialogue.

Probably not because a lot of the people that dislike sprint have left the franchise and probably wouldn’t be here to vote unless a friend or someone told them about it, most of the people left here do want sprint

Yep, thats the problem. We dont sell 12+Million copies of the mainline halo game anymore so the current playerbase is more likely to reflect positively towards what the current version utilizes.

Yikes.
This kid has the grammar/diction/sentence structure/arguments of a 12-year-old, and a 0.4 K/D. Not trolling at all, just giving facts. Stop wasting your time with him.
Anyway, moving on…

Boy, wizecracker, are you angry. Settle down, it’s just a game. A game with a number of negative ripple effects caused by the implementation of sprint. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can live a healthy, stress free life.

Pretty much every poll on the internet before the release of Halo 5 showed the anti-sprinters as the majority. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s changed now though since so many people finally gave up on the series.

*Knock knock
*Who’s there?
*Ignorant Halo 5 player.
*Ignorant Halo 5 player who?
*Woom woom! Me like sprint, go faster!

After 170 pages and still, people claim that sprint needs to stay, it makes the game faster, maps would feel too big without sprint, Halo needs sprint because 2016 and we have the technology now to add sprint :'D

After showing that games actually slow down, maps get stretched, weapons TTK get changed. They had to even touch the shield recharge system that was unique to Halo, all because of a mechanics we begged to be removed from the franchise for the past 6 years. Sprint.

Now people, please try to understand, Halo succeeded because it offered something unique and addictive, a gameplay that was somewhat easy to learn but extremely hard to master with minimum element of randomness. Now wanna know why this is addictive? It’s the same reason games like Geometry Wars and pac-man are addictive, the learning never ends, you can only become better and the outcome of the game only depends on you and your skill.

Sprint changed so many aspects of that addictive and unique gameplay that it’s hard for many player so even see this version of the game as a Halo title. I’m not saying Halo 5 is a bad game because of sprint, no. I’m saying that sprint never belonged in Halo in the first place. Halo 5 has somethings right and many things wrong. Sprint brings a random element to the gameplay that wasn’t there before. I’ll give you an example. When there are two moving speeds, you can’t predict you enemy even if you are a skilled player, adding randomness to the outcome. If your defending an area or running the flag, you can’t predict your enemies movement even if you have played a thousand hours. Why? Because your enemies can move in different speeds and locating them in your mind is impossible.

Now you might say that this is good, player shouldn’t be able to know my location because of my movement speed or the speed I’m leaving the fight. Wrong, it doesn’t reward you from being a good player and want you to learn more and keep on playing. When faced with randomness a skilled player is always punished and a less skilled player given a chance. This effect is even further fueled with the removal of defense and offense shooting ability while sprinting.

I dont think removing sprint from Halo 5 will help, the game is build around it, everything from TTK to magnetism to map design. I would just like the developers to keep in mind an idea of a Halo without sprint and the other mechanisms. The pure halo experience with nades, guns, teleporters and great maps.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to these elements as “here to stay”.

People said that with at least Dual Wielding and Armor Abilities. We need a Dual Wielding req.
