Halo was poplar with the original 3, and as we know it never had sprint. However even reach nearly reached h3 in sales and it had sprint. The issue can’t simply be pointed at sprint being the main culprit. Many things started changing for halo even from h3s time. The equipment pickups were a way to help encourage the armor abilities in reach, there was even more weapon redundancy added, and here’s one thing many would find as an odd opinion, the armour/custimization system. H3 added it in more depth than CE and h2, what could’ve happened is bungie realized “well -Yoink-! People like to play Barbies don’t they? I think next game we’ll add ways for people to dress up more but make them have to grind it out (credit system was B.S)”, which has since continued to h5 but worsened with the rng to it. Then reach destroyed competitive halo with many changes to the sandbox, like bloom, further redundancy, go full on with abilities, load outs, reused maps, story broke canon, ect ect, h4 continued the trend but worsened it further and h5 while dumbing down many of the issues still continues some of it but fixed some as well. My personal opinion is h5 would actually being doing much better had 343 not killed their reputation with mcc, and had h4 not been in people’s memories when thinking on getting h5. 343 is now where they have to earn back whatever trust they can in what I think would be a long rebuild process for the franchise.
Simply put out I think it naive for people to think one mechanic is the bane of halo, possible, but not so much when we really only have speculation at this moment even 6 years down the road. We can say “oh but sprint has been a constant since then”, well so have abilities, redundancy, the grind in custimization, poor story telling, bad matchmaking searching, mixed feelings on competitive play, ect ect.

I’d be completely fine with whatever they add, as long as things like sprint and armor abilities are custom settings and not default settings. That way the default maps and sandbox are not negatively effectived by all the bad ripple effects those things have on the game.

I don’t think anyone said sprint is solely responsible for the decrease in popularity. UpperLeach said sprint was “needed”, DHG gave an example that disproved his claim. Every single person could’ve bought Doom for the sole fact that it had demons in it and he DHGs example would still fit. It doesn’t matter what the reason was, Doom still sold well and did so without sprint, so obviously sprint isn’t necessary for a shooter to be fun and well received. Same goes for Overwatch.
At this point, it seems like people who complain about Sprint are just upset about getting caught with their pants down (aka weapon down) all the time lol.

To be fair, me and a lot of my peers only bought Reach and Halo 4 because we wanted to give Bungie and 343 the benefit of the doubt. And they both failed. Miserably. Those games were not enjoyable and sprint (along with its ripple effects on level design and so forth) was (were) the main reason for it. Yes, even more so than loadouts and ordnance drops. I would not have bought another Bungie-Halo with sprint and I definitely did not buy another 343-Halo with sprint, nor will I in the future. What I’m basically saying is that sprint didn’t affect Reach’s sales because nobody knew beforehand what problems it was going to cause. But now they do, which manifests itself in the poor sales and population of the last game(s).

Pretty much. Unless this guy decided to walk around everywhere instead of using a vehicle when provided with some. I can’t think of many areas (can’t think of any really, but maybe there are some) in three first three campaigns where enemies weren’t seconds away, whether it be on foot or in a vehicle.

You know missions don’t have any set length, right? One game could’ve had 20 short missions, but that doesn’t mean it was longer than one with 10 long missions. Plus, like 3 of Halo 5’s “missions” were just areas you talk in.

> You know missions don’t have any set length, right? One game could’ve had 20 short missions, but that doesn’t mean it was longer than one with 10 long missions. Plus, like 3 of Halo 5’s “missions” were just areas you talk in.

Unless there’s vehicles in the area, in a game without sprint they don’t make areas in campaign gigantic, so it wouldn’t take you a long time to “explore”. You’re starting to sound like you never played the original games.

I would not have bought another Bungie-Halo with sprint and I definitely did not buy another 343-Halo with sprint, nor will I in the future. What I’m basically saying is that sprint didn’t affect Reach’s sales because nobody knew beforehand what problems it was going to cause. But now they do, which manifests itself in the poor sales and population of the last game(s).
While I can agree many would give benefit of the doubt, are we saying 7 million players left mainly from sprint? I myself have been on neutral when it comes to sprint as I don’t see any reason to be for, nor vs it. I full well know and acknowledge the effects sprint has, but because I enjoy halo for different reasons other than movement and weapon readiness, I have yet to have a reason to pick a side. What would be more help is if there were more info on sprint being a main issue for the player base (yes I hear people on the forums mention it, I even hear my own gaming community mention it here and there) Why have the devs continued it if it’s hurting halo so much? Why did the creators themselves change it? Why would they move away from h3 and make reach, h4, and h5 which all resemble each other in one way or bother? Are the devs really dumb? Or is there something they see that we don’t as to why they continue the trend? You even see the devs themselves play and comment that they love the originals, why not copy off it? Is it just stubborn management? There’s to many questions for “me” to believe sprint as an issue, especially when there’s many other things contributing to the “downfall” of halo.
