If we’re going with “immersion” and “realism” as if either of those are relevant to the negative impacts it has on Halo, the sprint mechanic still doesn’t hold up. There is no reason Spartans wouldn’t be able to move at optimal speed while keeping their weapon ready, as they did in the books. They aren’t random chumps playing paintball. They are the pinnacle of human augmentation in the 26th century.

And no I don’t mean sprint and run at the same time. Sprint and shoot, like 117, 058 and especially 087 in all of the novels … Bc immersion …right.

Lol dudes I meant sprint and shoot. My bad. You know if anything, 343 should work on making mobile a lot easier to use.

Lol I was gonna say there’s no way you were being so redundant.

However, my point about lore dictating gameplay still stands. Why can’t we ask for a simple increase in the base movement speed and rid ourselves with the outdated mechanic?

I have already answered that question way to many times to keep repeating myself to every one.

Last time I checked, the Sprint mechanic is older than Halo.

I don’t feel immersed when I can’t prone, corner lean and die in less than two seconds from basic ballistic bullets.

Why do you keep demanding people to give you reasons for this? Isn’t the fact that they like sprint good enough? Or do you insist on getting individual points so you can better attempt to pick them apart one by one?

Cool strawman

Whether or not someone likes sprint or doesn’t like sprint is irrelevant. Mechanics are implemented based on what they add to the game. If someone says they think sprint should stay just because they like it, then I won’t argue. If someone is gonna whine about people not wanting sprint or say that sprint belongs in the game, then be prepared to explain why that is or whatever else you have to say on the subject is of no importance.

Because it’s a significant issue that has had significant, detrimental effects on the gameplay of this series and by extension, the population. So, if people are going to make excuses for the developers’ bad design decisions, they should have reasons that demonstrate they have actually thought about the issue and not just simplistic, shallow idiocy like “I like to go fast.” And yet, I’ve hardly seen anything resembling the former from the “pro-sprint” crowd. So many people operate under the assumption that their opinion is inherently valuable and all opinions are created equal, but I strongly disagree. If you can’t make a coherent argument and you don’t understand the issue at hand, your opinion is WORTHLESS and in this case HARMFUL. Like most of what LethalQ posts. It’s a conversation. If you aren’t interesting in having one and defending your position, don’t make the stupid post in the first place. Save everyone the time and mental energy of reading the useless crap.

Half 9th his arguments are just “OK, but what makes it good?” That’s like saying “Why are gun laws good?” It does nothing but prolong an argument that is otherwise in an unfavorable state for the attacking side.

If you really are curious about what are good reasons for keeping sprint, then maybe you should go from page one and catch up to here.

P.S.
DOOM is not the fastest game in the market, it does seem fast but a lot of it is a wider FOV. I won’t lie that it’s not fast but there are faster games, like some arena shooters, that just aren’t as recent or popular.

I’m not immersed at all by sprint. Sprint makes me feel like a run of the mill COD soldier with a little but more health.

I feel clunky. I feel slow. I do not feel like a super soldier.

I feel like a super soldier in doom though. Moving quickly in all directions while shooting. That’s what a super soldier should feel like.

So I guess you can’t tell me why sprint is good for the gameplay either, huh? Funny how the anti-sprinters can explain in detail how sprint effects the game negatively, but pro-sprinters all to often can’t seem to explain why it effects the game positively.

P.S. Whether its speed or FOV doesn’t matter, my point remains that Doom doesn’t have sprint and it isn’t “too slow” and is one probably the fastest paced shooter on consoles right now. If you think otherwise, give some examples.

hi hows it going.

does this count?

Edit: Honestly, the core pillar argument is not a true argument. You cant decide what a core pillar is, because even Bungie couldnt. Bungie broke the Golden Triangle, Bungie introduced Spartan Abilities, they created the series. Bungie implement dual wielding, hijacking vehicles, equipment, all other sorts of things. All of those broke the “flow” of Halo.

Just a thought. Bungie definitely had the idea for Destiny at least as far back as 2009. They tried it on Halo in 2010. People will argue that it worked or it didnt. But why not just stay with the massive scifi franchise and make Destiny? Its one of two things. Either this community was something they didnt want to deal with, or they didnt want to deal with the market for Halo. You decide.

Yes, I’m sure that wouldn’t be a waste of time. I’m sure LethalG’s response wouldn’t be a one sentence regurgitation of the standard pro-sprint “arguments” that we’ve countless times. And you think its reasonable to expect people to read 100+ pages just to find this? When a simple reiteration would take about as much time as LethalX has spent saying that he won’t repeat himself? You people post, but aren’t interesting in having the conversation, yet will continue to make posts saying that you won’t say anything nonetheless. -Yoink- me, Waypoint discussion is infuriating.

PS: No one is under the impression that Doom is the fastest game on the market, it’s just fast in comparison to Halo 5 and the similarities to the Halo formula in Certain Affinity’s execution of it make the comparison fairly obvious. It’s a very clear illustration that sprint does not make a game faster. Instead, Doom has wider FOV, faster base movement, and extremely snappy strafe acceleration. Funnily enough, almost exactly the kind of changes people have suggested for making Halo faster without a sprint mechanic. Huh. You are vastly more agile and empowered as an individual in Doom’s multiplayer. It also doesn’t have motion-tracker/radar.

Is affect or effect the correct usage in this situation? It always boggles me.

Look, most of the anti-sprint points argue with facts that maybe the top 4% of players actually care about. TTK, Map Elongation, Enemies running away and the need to chase, people not being punished for being out of position. Its all unnecessary to the average player. Halo 5 is fun. What Halo is not, however, is accomodating or welcoming to new players. Now more than ever. You need skill to play Halo. And the auto-aim and bullet magnetism of games like CoD have ruined that in the common gamer. People used to be better. Back when there was only Halo to play.

I’ve read most of this thread and I haven’t seen any pro sprint arguments that have swayed my opinion at all.

  1. Immersion.
This is highly subjective. I actually find that sprint breaks my immersion because to me it seems silly that a super soldier from the future cannot move quickly and shoot at the same time.

  2. Non sprint is dated.
Actually the fps industry seems to be moving away from sprint. Especially in games that have long kill times (halo falls in this group). Sprint makes h5 feel old and dated.

  3. Makes the game faster.
It really doesn’t. It actually objectively makes the game slower in just about every conceivable way.

It would be “affect” in this case.

And I would say that while the average player is not aware of these things, they are nonetheless impacted by them. Halo 5 in particular introduces a lot of complexity and stress at the expense of real depth. With people thrusting, sliding, thrust sliding all over the place. With ridiculous quick kills with automatics. With stretched out, cluttered maps filled with a million routes, windows, and sneakies. With the tiny motion tracker compromise between casual and competitive. These are all elements that make this game less of the simple fun as a casual game and worse as a competitive Halo game. It’s not as if the top 4% of players are the only ones affected by design changes that fundamentally change map design and gameplay. The larger audience doesn’t need to be able to clearly articulate their issues with the game to have a problem with it. Most of the people who dislike “modern” Halo probably haven’t stuck around long enough to continue these conversations, as evidenced by the drastically smaller install-base and even worse concurrent population of this game versus something like H3.

And the idea that there was only Halo to play is similarly dubious. The original Modern Warfare came out in the same year as Halo 3. Halo 3’s population stayed strong for years after that. It survived MW2 just fine as well. It wasn’t until fundamental, detrimental changes were made to the formula that Halo started its decline.
