The sprint discussion thread

Lmao, this people thinking that the failure of halo 5 is sprint, pfffff. It was lack of content and bad campaign, just because you don like it doesnt mean that is a problem. You guys acting that un the instant they remove sprint halo will be the most played game ever, “11/10 no sprint ign”, "omg halo with no sprint, best game ever. No sprint wasnt the thing that made halo good back in the old days
Sprint is not going away, deal with it. Half of the population like sprint

Then let’s add wall running and kill streaks into the mix while we’re at it

2000 posts, 1 week, and the deadest horse in the world. This topic is an embarrassment and an eyesore, fueled by misguided nostalgia rather than a genuine desire to see Halo succeed in the modern FPS market.

Sprint is the least of Halo’s problems. There are more pressing/actually interesting subjects to discuss, like what kind of content support we’re going to get after the WZFF update, weapon sandbox talk, and cool Forge creations.

The incredible thing about this thread being so huge is that almost every anti-sprint Halo fan is long, long gone.

Lmao, that is not halo, sprint is just a simple mechanic

Sprint could be part of the issue tho, I don’t think it’s the main reason, but it can still be part of the problem. People have voiced reasons as to why, and some of them I can agree to. It changes level/map designs being the biggest from my view.

Agreed OP.

But remember your on waypoint, I haven’t read any responses but I imagine most of them are:

  1. Spartans are super soldiers they should be able to sprint.
  2. I want immersion in my game so I should be able to sprint.
  3. Sprint is here to stay so get good.

Thats mainly the top 3 responses I see.

We all know a no sprint game could revive a struggling franchise.

But knowing 343 not only will Sprint and Overpowered autos be in the game. But a double jump and wall running will be there too.

Cuz you know… Anything COD does 343 follows suit

Holy irony lol.

> Yes, because you should blame sprint and not the failure of mcc, a forgettable campaign, or a severe lack of content at the games release. No, sprint is obviously why halo 5 failed.

Sprint is but one mechanic that halo has drifted towards and noticed a sever backlash, the lack of content and a seriously pathetic campaign obviously hold the game down as well. The game is built with this mechanic in mind, as was 4. H4 had a sizable amount of content and it showed the mechanic was disliked as well. Impossible to prove correlation equals causation but its also impossible to ignore the correlation between the two.

Have you read the thread? I’ve glanced through and seen numerous posts that while anti sprint are very accepting of change to the original Halo formula.

If anything in an FPS year that has been highlighted by the rise of CS GO, the release of Overwatch and the incredible Doom campaign sprint in Halo is what feels dated. H5 feels quite clunky in comparison to some of these newer games that don’t use sprint. Having to drop to a slower speed in order to shoot people in a game that has 1-4 second long engagements feels awkward, clunky and archaic.

I think the age of sprint being seen as a universal FPS mechanic is coming to an end.

> didn’t even bother reading it because it is the dumbest topic out there right now. Just because it has sprint doesn’t mean its not Halo. It’s one whole mechanic, that’s it. If you don’t like sprint, don’t sprint. Problem solved.

and then get your head blown off since you won’t get to cover fast enough. Seriously just remove sprint and let everyone run faster. The delay before readying and firing decides most firefights before the first burst is off.

nostalgia and modern are not arguments, has halo succeeded in this “modern” FPS market? Sometimes the core mechanics of the game need to be discussed, as it seems many take issue to 343 following trends instead of leading the way.

Meanwhile Doom and Overwatch blew Halo 5’s sales out of the water and are fast paced shooters without sprint (no soldier 76 doesn’t count because he’s one character and can begin firing immediately to stop his sprint, something not present in Halo 5).

also considering you get to compare Halo 5 mp to the generally most despised Halo MPs in the series means Halo 5 will always look favorable.

I’ll be honest Halo 5 is a step up from Halo 4 (maybe a step down for halo 4 legendary slayer post patch) and it ditched the atrocities of armor lock and jetpacks and AAs in general, but it still pales to Halo 2 and Halo 3 for me.

You can also simply look at sales. Halo 5 hasn’t passed Reach or 4 and only made more money on launch day than Halo 3 because MS included all the bundles meaning the consoles and collectibles were factored in as well. Gamestop said the game sold softly and that’s all we’ve gotten. It’s safe to assume though seeing that if Halo 5 sold extremely well it’s all we would have heard about.

So yea it isn’t succeeding in the modern market nor is it coming close to touching its predecessors. Halo 5 I think had a 25% attach rate last I heard. Compare that to the 52% attach rate Halo 3 had at its launch! Looking at the facts and details it’s clear that 343 isn’t doing something right when it comes to the games.

Bungie started the sprint in Halo thing if you dont remember.

True but Bungie had it as an armor ability. It was 343’s decision to implement it as a standard for everyone and then still leave armor abilities in.

How is that relevant?

The thing that I don’t understand is why people want Sprint in the game. They say it’s because it makes the game feel faster, but non-Sprint people have debunked that fact and showed that Sprint, if anything, actually slows the game down.

There are mechanics and objects that can be added to counter the “slowness” people feel when playing the game. Things like Man-Cannons, Teleporters, and Mongooses all allow the game to be fast, and usually make it even faster than a game with Sprint. Other things they could do is increase the base movement speed and increase the field of view. Both of those things would make the game feel and play a lot faster.

With those things the game would actually feel faster than it does with sprint, and have none the negatives. Maps could go back to being varied and different. The weapon and vehicle sandbox could go back to being better balanced.

People that want the game to feel faster are actually non-sprint people. They just don’t know it yet.

Because hes calling out 343 for putting things in halo that resemble cod features.
