The split screen debacle

In 2018 in was confirmed by Bonnie Ross that Halo Infinite would have 4 player split screen (not specifying whether this is for campaign, multiplayer, or both).

Flash-forward to 2020 after the reveal, many media outlets reiterate the fact that Halo Infinite will have 4 player split screen (not specifying whether this is for campaign, multiplayer, or both).

A day later, Jerry Hook and Brian Jarrard of 343 correct the reports, stating that campaign will be limited to 2 player split screen (not mentioning multiplayer at all).

You can look at this as a backtrack, or 343 beating around the bush (as I do), however the fact remains that we still do not know whether or not multiplayer will have 4 player split screen as was promised back in 2018 by Bonnie Ross.

I am guessing multiplayer will not have 4 player split screen due to 343’s beating around the bush and the cryptic Tweet from Jerry Hook. I have Tweeted them to clarify, however I have not received a response.

I really hope Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will support 4 player split screen, as I still enjoy playing local matches with my two brothers and father.

Halo will support 4 player split screen on multiplayer and 2 player split screen on campaign.

Honestly I don’t it will be different that what we had in the past 2 person split. Abby more than that and you needed to do a link with a second TV and system. And honestly I don’t see this as a problem 4 people even on my biggest TV makes each scream tiny like we were living back in the 90’s.
But yeah I would say this was Bonnie making a mistake.

I am really hoping later on they will announce that split screen is an exclusive feature to the Series X. That would really bum me out.

I’m too old to cope with split screen anymore. It must makes me feel queasy.

And the kids are able to watch all the screens at once so I completely lost any chance to hide / surprise.

So I had to fork out for my own xbox / screen… so there can be no screen peeking…

I really hope they do splitscreen right. Halo 5’s lack of splitscreen was by far it’s biggest letdown for me.

Halo has always been 2 players for local Co-Op. 4 Players for LAN or Xbox Live. If you don’t believe that, here is a blog post from Bungie.net dating back to 2007 when 4 player Co-Op was first introduced. It sounds like 343 is bringing back Split-Screen the way it operated in the previous titles. Multi-Player has always been the exception in this case, allowing 4 players at once on the same console.

TV’s may be bigger but I still don’t want to share my screen with three other people, especially not for a scenic campaign.

We need split screen. Halo has always has split-screen ad until Halo 5, I have always used it.
I have friends and family and during our gathering, we always gather around the sofa and play Halo.
Back during Halo CE, I was turned onto Halo due to Split screen and how much fun me and my family had.

Split screen is an important part of Halo and 343 needs to see that and have it, if Halo is to truly revive itself. I personally know 57 people who did not pick up Halo 5 solely because of the lack of split-screen. It made no sense to bring the Rating of Halo down to Teen, and not have split-screen. I had a sibling and we played Halo, cousins who played Halo. Split-screen connected us all and as time passed we all got our own xbox with a copy of Halo 3. Which increases sales on a business stand point. It only hurts them to not add it.

I don’t trust anything Bonnie Ross as to say, if I’m to be honest. She’s the same person that said, The MCC was working and we don’t understand how these many bugs happened. Halo 5 releasing in such a pitiful state, filled with bugs, disconnections, Micro transactions, lack of content, for forge, the list goes on and on.
I will believe in 343 when I see it. Otherwise I’ll be disappointed and angry at the empty promises and disconnection 343 has had with us over the years.

That’s not at all what the article says. It says 4 play online co-op campaign. Nothing about multiplayer.

It’s confirmed already. Here is the quote from the community update.

> WHAT ABOUT SPLITSCREEN AND CO-OP?
> Campaign will support 2 player splitscreen and online 4 player co-op. Yes, you can play on your couch with a friend.

I think Adam is saying that 4 player split screen for MP has not been confirmed yet. That quote only confirms that there is 4 player online for co-op.

By “multiplayer” I’m talking online co-op. Not local. Sorry should have clarified that.

Correct, local multiplayer custom games. Co-op refers to campaign.
