The sole reasons why Reach's pop is so low

Is not only because of the Armor Abilities, but the players themselves and heres why…

As you recall, there were players who got to Inheritor in less then a year when the game launched. It wasn’t because of good they were because if it was, I honestly would not be halfway to Mythic. You go into FF and you get players who AFK boost and guest boost. Does anyone bother to report these players? No and because if they did, no one would still be doing it. Bungie did however ban I think 40-50k people from getting credits or either rank reset them, but no this doesn’t stop people.

Then you get people who think the power weapons have their name on it and betray for it because they’re better with it then everyone else. They think the Banshee, Tank or Wraith belong to them and betray you because they want it or don’t want you to have it. It really doesn’t matter if you go solo or in a party. I was in a match with 2 people from KSI despite how bad everyone bashes them on the Bnet forums, and still we had people on our team betraying for the Sniper. If in BTB you dont go in with a party of more then say 5 or 6, your gonna get people like that.

You have people who are straight up power weapon -yoink- they see themselves losing and hoard the power weapons just to get an edge, and think just because they are good with a power weapon means they got skill. You then have people who are just outright trolls and betray people on their team basically ruining the game and its not only in BTB. It’s in all playlists.

The ranking system, doesn’t have any trueskill, or more so, the trueskill is suppoisdly hidden. There really isn’t any sort of skill system present on Reach because if there was, you wouldn’t have Inheritors and Nova’s who have a K/D below say 1.10. Then speaking of K/D you get have people who care so much about their K/D their life depends on keeping it up. I know when I started on Reach, I was negative but then I got my K/D up to around what it is now which is positive by the way and heck I don’t even care about my K/D, I want it to be positive but if it goes down it doesn’t matter.

And finally you have people who camp in Halo, and to be honestly, who the hell camps in Halo? I’d exempt Snipers and people who guard the base with a Shotgun, but camping the Banshee, and the power weapons and crap, thats nonsense. It’s not yours and if other people are gonna want a vehicle such as a Banshee, they can’t get it because the camper is going to betray anyone who gets close to them as it gets close to spawning.

It’s why Halo 3 is still superior to Reach. Some people want Inheritor like me, but why would you go all through the fustration with the players Reach currently has just to get to a rank that doesn’t even mean anything? Even competionists who want to get to max rank have left, becuase theres no incentive to rank up. Not with the kind of players inhabiting Reach.

NOTE: I have an alternate account I play Reach with, and this viewpoint is from my alt GT.

And how does any of what you said reflect on the size of the population?

My only problem are AFK players, and people who quit during,it just makes the game unbalanced and not fun anymore

Currently there are close to a hundred thousand players online and it is the 6th most played XboX game with only one of the titles ahead of it being about the same age.

Your assertion of a low population is incorrect as is your assessment of quality of gameplay.

I play multiple online shooter s and have the most fun playing halo then any other game. multiple play types and being able to play with someone on the same console make this game for me. The only thing bothering me is that I let my nephew play matchmaking and got smacked with the banhammer, and even with that I understand the need. If there is a dwindling population compared to before I would atribute it to stagnation moreso then frustration.

The reason Reach’s population is lower is because Halo now has competition. Halo 3 had the same issues listed, as well.

Also, “sole reasons” makes no sense.

Crap maps and full parties against randoms are why players leave.

Many thingd added to the low population of Reach /

its lack of Competitiveness
its lack Of balanced game
Its lack of balanced maps
Its lack of Even Team matching
Its lack of drive to win / IE everyone get credits
The fact you can spawn with game braking things like camo & jetpack .
Its lack of MORE THEN 1 Ranked playlist -Arena-

Small list but thats what makes me and many other Competitive players wish it could be fixed .

If Reach has a low population, it’s probably because it’s been out for about a year and a half. I think Reach’s population is just fine considering most games that old don’t have nearly as many people playing it as Reach does.

Cool rant there buddy, but (with the exception of lack of trueskill) those things are not the reasons why Reach’s population fails to carry the weight of previous Halos.

The reason falls strictly on how much the game changed between Halo 3 and Reach. Poorly implemented ideas like most (if not all) AAs, bloom which was arguably good idea in theory, but ruined by failed execution, and a ranking system that doesn’t show skill drove away a large chunk of the core fanbase.

Certain players cough will try to tell you that the current population is fine and that Reach is still the Xth (some number that isn’t 1 or 2 like its predecessors) most played game, but the truth is that while Reach is definitely a success as far as a video game goes, it is definitely a failure for a Halo game.

Hopefully 343 learns from the mistake of Reach and finds a way to implement the changes coming our way in Halo 4 (which many are understandably skeptical about) without alienating the existing fanbase.

Since both those games had so much competition.
Arcade games weren’t even around (one of which beats Reach currently)
Call of Duty has so many freaking games in the top 20 its frustrating. Only one of which that Halo 3 had to face off against until MW 2 dethroned it.

Its not a failure. Apple was the top dog market share wise until it was dethroned by the millions of Android clones.
Does that make the 4S or soon to be 5 a failure? No. The market share is exponentially growing (just like gaming) and people aren’t always going to go to the same competition. As you can see, Battlefield 3, CoD from two different developers, and Reach are in the top 10. Just like Android, Blackberry, Apple, and WP7 all have top selling devices in the top 10 or 20 (i forget sometimes)
That statement has no substance behind it. Stop using it.

Honestly, I think it comes down to market competition. Halo, back in the day, didn’t have BF3 or CoD to compete with. If somebody wanted to play a console shooter, they’d pick up a copy of Halo. Now, with so many games out there, it’s tough to remain in the number one spot.

> but the truth is that while Reach is definitely a success as far as a video game goes, it is definitely a failure for a Halo game.

Waypoint logic.

Not sure you understand how the term “Waypoint Logic” is typically used. Now, if you would have said “Bnet logic” you may have been a little closer.

No im pretty sure i meant waypoint logic, thanks all the same.

Formally known as Bnet logic.

And I assume that Halo 4 will be a failure too because it can’t compete with each and every one of the 7657893264782658 other popular shooter (Most being COD games)?

The real reasons Reach’s population is so “low.”

CoD.
Higher quality games being made by other people.

You mean that game that never changes? The one tht is reskinned and rereleased every year? Is that the one? But how is it possible? I thought that games had to change and evolve for people to stay interested? What? There are two versions of the same game ahead of Reach in population, and another one only one spot behind it? How does that happen?

The reasons in a nutshell:

-Awful Maps
-Boring/bad/non-motviating ranking system
-Slower gameplay (For a host of reasons including AA’s, Bloom, Map design etc)

If those were different you can guarantee Reach would be a lot more popular.
