The Sniper isn’t Right

Love the look and design but something doesn’t feel right. Playing on controller on series x

I think the reticle is a little to small and when zoomed in I don’t like the bigger circle around the reticle. Thoughts?

Its a Sniper Rifle, its meant to be hard to aim, they wanted the Sniper Rifle to be hard enough to aim that it wasn’t the undisputable king in BTB due to the map’s size. In Halo 3, its literally the only weapon you will ever need. They wanted the Sniper Rifle to be hard to use but give a big payoff.

Couldn’t agree more, Sniping has always been my favorite part of halo throughout all the years and during this flight I did not want to use the sniper at all.

The one thing I keep telling myself is maybe its just the maps they previewed for the flight just aren’t designed for long range and when we get a bigger map with longer lanes it will feel better but right now it is not comfortable thats for sure.

Exactly. I would be the first to the sniper in Live Fire and just say to myself I don’t feel like using it. You could be right maybe because the maps we played them on were small but idk just didnt feel right

It was really hard to use on controller for me, but I don’t think I spent a lot of tiem with it to be fair so it may be that i just didn’t get used to it
It did feel clunky and slow to aim, but again, that may have just been my settings and me not getting used to using the weapon

To preface this by saying, yes I know the aim assist is much lower than it’s ever been, and the movement speed is also much higher… I honestly felt like just getting my reticle to where I wanted it to be on controller was a chore. Something about the reticle movement doesn’t feel right in general, even when you aren’t trying to aim and shoot at a player and are just moving about the map. It’s hard to describe… Maybe I should have spent even more time tooling around with my various sensitivities than I did but I found I couldn’t predict the speed and distance my reticle would move while aiming.

Is it harder to aim? I genuinely felt that it was much easier to aim in HI than in Halo 3. The aim assist (specifically the aim slowdown) was pretty clear and could be felt when scoped. Flicks were really easy to pull off. I’m all for harder to aim snipes, but the Halo Infinite sniper just isn’t it tbh. The gun feels punishingly sluggish, and on top of the gun having a low fire rate, the bloom takes forever to reset from the hip making it extremely inconsistent when descoped.

I am all for a snipe that’s hard to aim, but I want it to feel good, and most importantly, I want it to be consistent. There shouldn’t be bloom on the sniper. Period. Bloom defeats the entire purpose of the gun being a high-skill precision weapon when it actively punishes precise players. I’m coming at this from a controller perspective and I understand that MnK is incredibly strong with the sniper, but I don’t see why MnK performance with the sniper should result in the controller users getting hurt as well. Give me a snipe with a faster fire rate, as low of aim assist as you’re willing to go, and most importantly, remove the bloom from it. That’d be my ideal snipe. What we currently have just ain’t it.

I think the sniper scope looked like it zooms in to far and that the zoom in screen looks almost smaller in a way. Idk it definitely felt of too. It’s almost like the first zoom was magnified more than it’s supposed to

If the maps weren’t designed for the sniper, then why put it on there in the first place? Seems weird for them to put it there if it’s supposed to be used on larger maps. I think it just needs a rework. It feels janky and wrong imo, the skewer is even worse.

Skewer is even worse is right. Something doesn’t feel right about it either but maybe that’s just me

Well, when you’re on a solid 20 frames per second in fights, yeah, sniper can be hard to aim. pair that with a wonky sensitivity you cant match to your other games aaaaaand it’s a recipe for disaster lol

I was playing on the Series X with very good frame rate, the game felt very smooth and still the sniper didn’t feel good

It’s the circle around the reticle when zoomed for me. It really messes me up

out of curiosity do you have your dead zones turned off on the controller? they are set to 12% by default and they create HUGE areas of dead space in your look stick. the game was literally unplayable to me until I turned look acceleration down to 1 and my dead zones down to 2. now the game feels snappy and responsive to my inputs. I cant believe those are the default setting honestly. I don’t understand why anyone would want so much artificially changing how their aim is working.

Yep the sniper felt way off, I messed with every controller setting possible to get it to “feel” right but it just didn’t matter.

I couldn’t tell because I’m only watching on Youtube but the reticles for all of the weapons look quite small to me. Maybe the aiming feels off because of that?

Absolutely. This sniper is the hardest-to-use sniper rifle in any halo game to date in my opinion. The sniper feels very clunky and the reticle is certainly too small. I even find the classic Halo snipers easier to use.

I think everyone felt that. Was just reading someone post about it on a youtube comment. It needs some reworking for sure, but I like the skillgap too.

The sniper needs to be hard to use. H3 did it right. In every game after that it became ridiculously easy to use.

If Halo 3 did it right, then surely Halo Infinite needs to make it a little easier to use.
