something i perosnally havent seen many notice is a couple of things about these weapons which raise a lot of questions. first of all the halo 5 smg is tiny compared to it’s predecessors. combine this with the lack of dual wielding and plenty of other automatic weapon options and i think we’re looking at a new side arm, along with a pistol or plasma pistol.
Now the rocket launcher. I’ve seen a lot of people say ‘maybe it’s anti-vehicle! the rocket launcher is anti-infantry and this could be it’s counter part’. but then i thought about it and realised that this beta is a small map beta. they said 4v4 competitive maps. this means there will be little/no vehicles on these maps and therefore no need for an anti vehicle weapon. unfortuately this leads me to believe this weapon is a redesign of one of halo’s most iconic weapons into what looks like imo a very generic boring design. on the other hand it could be a one shot, much larger explosion rocket launcher which could change things up a bit, but the handle on the front resembles the one on the current rocket launcher too much.

The SMGs appear to be the same actually. It does seem weird that the SMG is making a return when Frank O’Connor said they weren’t considering dual wielding at this time. So it could be that the SMG will be a solo automatic sidearm option, or you pick up a pair of them by default similar to the SMGs in Spartan Assault.
When dual wielded the SMGs become shorter, the extended back is up in the Halo 3 image.
Due to no dual wielding, and the SMG being potentially fit into a sidearm role, it may just not have an extended mag.
As for the rocket, I really don’t think 343i would redesign that. There are things like anti-personnel rockets.
The SMG is just in collapsed-stock mode. There’s no major difference. The Halo 3 one could be theoretically just pushed back in and be exactly the same size as the new one.
As for the launcher, I think this is the new anti-personnel/infantry weapon. Thinking about it, the SPNKr is a bit beefy to be something to deploy against infantry. It seems more like an anti-air or anti-vehicle weapon.
So I think that unless this is a replacement, which I doubt it is, the two will have new features that differentiate them and allow them to function differently, such as a big lock-on range for the SPNKr, and higher shot velocity for the new one.
Plus, the new launcher looks single-shot, so unlike the old model, you have to be more careful with your shots, since there’s a big reload time if you miss it, whereas before you had another shot to work with. Increased skill gap, ho!
well i did notice it was a case of the stock being pushed in, but the no dual wielding thing seems kinda odd. one theory i saw that was interesting is maybe smgs are your starting weapons, and you pick up ARs like in H2A multiplayer. that would make some sense

I would be cool with that. Anything but the useless AR of Halo 3. That thing was the worst. I would hate for the brilliant design of the new AR to be stuck with useless functionality.

Let’s hope. That is one thing that always infuriated me about the SPNKr. You could juke someone and it didn’t even matter, they would just nail you with their second one.
There’s actually two new rocket launchers. The bazooka-looking one, probably a strong one-shot anti-vehicle weapon. And there’s the one we have gameplay of, with six tracking-rockets in a clip.
The old rocket should be there too, because it would be too much to remove Halo CE weapons.
The new six shot launcher isn’t rocket launcher but a grenade launcher called Hydra according to Halopedia. I believe that it is indeed grenade launcher.
About the new rocket launcher, perhaps it is new map exclusive legendary weapon like in Truth, the Prophets Bane

Well perhaps…I’v never heard of homing grenades I could be wrong. Or that they are mini-rockets, which would make it “Mini-Rocket Launcher” xD

Maybe a bit like the Sidewinder from Titanfall mixed with the Smart Pistol. I’m intrigued to see it in action properly, though.

I would care to disagree, if you look the only real difference, besides the location of the mag. And that’s the stock, but if you look at the original M7 you’d see it has a folding type of stock. Or is it called extending…Anyways, the stock is pushed in on the Halo 5 version, Where in the Halo 3 it’s pulled out.

Dude, you’re responding to something more than a YEAR old. Are you blind? Bumping isn’t allowed on the forums.

I saw the original post date, then realized that it was actually more than a year old, then looked for the necro, and then wondered how a year-old post with less than a page worth of replies was even found by the necrobumper.
