The Slow- but sure - DEATH OF HALO continues

When Halo 4 first came out I was optimistic because I really liked the Campaign. I played a lot of Infinity Slayer.

343 has made many mistakes. Nothing was done to bring back long time core players; many of which quit playing Halo altogether or exclusively - and now play COD…

The game has become to bloated and complicated. Not complicated in the sense that the game is hard to figure out, but its ridiculously unbalanced and unfair.
The armor abilities combined with tactical packages really make the game too unbalanced to be fair even for skilled players.

I honestly believe this is a reason less people are playing Halo on Xbox Live. The game has dropped to it’s lowest point ( faster then Reach ) in history as far as unique players.

Anyone notice the Halo 4 Global Championship is DEAD? Millions of copies of H4 sold and no one is hardly playing !

Some will say “If it weren’t for armor abilities the game would’ve declined faster” … This is simply not true. Most to NONE of these abilities exist in COD - yet COD continues to thrive and be VIABLE - While Halo DOES NOT.

They took away armor lock - because it was too unfair. Yet they add things like Promethian Vision where you can see through walls and completely nullify any smart tactical playing of the game. Jetpack on small maps makes hitting those flying in tight quarters too hard because you can only view certain angles in tight spaces.

They added LEGENDARY Slayer which is great, but who the hell knows about it ?
Most players aren’t coming back to Halo and aren’t giving it another chance.

The sad thing is I still enjoy playing, but MS has let 343 really drop the ball by putting people in charge of the game that continues to ‘add’ to the sense that Halo is nothing more then a shell of what it once was.

COD continues to thrive because for the most part it ‘stays true to itself’
Can you imagine the outrage is you added invisibility to COD or jetpack ? COD is basic warfare and people like that the most because -whether it is or not - the game seems more fair and balanced. In the end that reality ( or perception ) is all that matters…

while it could have been better without a doubt, i believe 343 learned from the mistakes and halo 5 will be good.

HALO is so far from over. Time will prove me right.

Not to mention, Spielberg is making a freaking TV show.

While I personally don’t want to renew my faith in 343 anymore just to lose it again, I don’t think Halo’s death is inevitable. Yet.
Halo 4 may have been a flop, but the series still has a chance for redemption with Halo 5. The only thing in the current game that could possibly mean the next will be better is Legendary Slayer, though; if Halo 5 continues on the Infinity path, the death of Halo will in fact be inevitable…

> while it could have been better without a doubt, i believe 343 learned from the mistakes and halo 5 will be good.

… The same was said before Halo 4’s release.

> They took away armor lock - because it was too unfair. Yet they add things like Promethian Vision where you can see through walls and completely nullify any smart tactical playing of the game.

So much this. They tried to add a ton of CoD features to try to steal some new players but I don’t think they really thought it through. Those people aren’t going to play for very long because Halo can never be a better CoD than CoD can. And in chasing those people they alienated actual Halo fans. So now they’re left with almost no one.

And as far as balance goes, I don’t know what they were thinking. It’s like they brought in some devs 10 year old and just threw anything into the game he thought sounded cool without testing it.

“I love the sniper but it’s so hard to use!” FORERUNNER SNIPER RIFLE THAT KILLS IN ONE SHOT NO MATTER WHERE YOU HIT PEOPLE

“People always out shoot me because I’m not as fast or good as them.” ARMOR ABILITY THAT LET’S YOU SEE PERFECTLY THROUGH WALLS.

“I never get power weapons because I can’t ever make it to where they spawn.” IF YOU GET A FEW KILLS WE WILL DELIVER ONE RIGHT TO YOUR FEET.

how could that be said when they never made a halo game before? what mistake were made when nothing was made?

and no ce doesnt count for anything as its not their game they just made it pretty.

Because they still could have learned from Reach’s mistakes. You can learn from the mistakes of someone else. They clearly saw how the community reacted to it as they were the ones who released the title update that attempted to fix most of those concerns. The only difference between then and now is that now we KNOW they can’t make a Halo game.

That was Bungie’s game, not theirs. They saw the reactions it caused and tried to execute the principles Bungie introduced in a different way to see how we reacted. Judging by the talk on these forums, I would say we reacted negatively. I doubt 343 are foolish enough to try a third time at making us accept Armour Abilities and other core features of seperate FPS’s that, frankly, we don’t want. From this, we can predict that Halo 5 will be better, maybe not the greatest Halo ever, but better.

They came out with a section of new playlists that were all labeled TU playlists. They nerfed armor lock a bit. They nerfed camo a bit. They reduced bloom. They added shield bleed through. They removed sword block. There were a couple other things that I can’t remember right now but overall it was a pretty comprehensive update. That’s why I was so psyched before Halo 4. For me, that seemed to really indicate that they would make a good Halo game and listen to the community. So imagine my surprise and horror when they did the literal opposite of that.

ah i see why your bummed now. well they offered an official apology in their blog after this debacle so im thinking 5 will be the test for me. im thinking a lot more people will do the same.

Halo 4 was released in an unfinished, unpolished form and it drove a lot of people away that have never come back.

Terrible network conditions, missing gametypes, glitches have given us the population we have today. I would have preferred that the game be released late then unfinished.

You’re talking about it like they only screwed up one time. The entirety of Halo 4, pre and post launch has been a running fail. Everything they’ve done has indicated that they are completely out of touch with what people want.

People wanted a return to classic Halo after Reach so they made Halo 4 even more like CoD.

People wanted the boltshot taken out of loadouts or made a 2 shot kill so they made its range shorter but still a 1sk.

People wanted fiesta back for the first time since Halo 3 so they made it standard weapons starts, all “random” weapon drops and not all weapons were included in the drops.

People wanted the red X back so they made it white, follow a person’s body instead of where they died and disappear after a second.

People wanted the DMR nerfed slightly so they buffed every other weapon in the game.

Sure they corrected some of these after they made them but that still has them running around like crazy just trying to break even with the last game (that everyone was already disappointed with). Which they haven’t, because there is some stuff they just can’t/refuse to fix, like sprint in Legendary slayer, theater support for campaign and spartan ops, flood being able to hold weapons, custom game options coming back, one flag returning, auto pickup of the flag being turned off, etc.

Campaign: It all began with Halo 3. Dumbed down Halo

Multiplayer: Reach and H4 brought it to it’s knees (mostly H4)

This^

They seriously need to take their time with Halo 5. I don’t care how long I have to wait, I just want the game to work and be playable out of the box. They simply can’t afford to make any more mistakes now.

Well they already announced that it will be out in 2 years (2014) rather than the 3 years it took to make all the other Halos. So there goes that.

Uhh…didn’t something similar happen a while ago?

I got on friday for the 1st time in weeks and the population was extremely low. None of my friends play Halo 4 (they spend their time in the Team Objective playlist on Reach) so I’m often lone wolfing it. It gets boring after a while and there’s so much wrong with the game that I find it hard to play for very long unless I’m drunk.

Halo: Chronicles wasn’t fully established like how this is, and the concept of Chronicles itself seemed very bland. I’m just grateful that there’s finally going to be an official Halo TV Series, especially with Spielberg involved.

Also, you could consider Spartan Ops to be a spiritual successor to Halo: Chronicles.
