To try and keep this a simple discusssion, I’ll try to avoid a wall of text
As a lifelong fan of Halo, I believe I join the majority of this forum in being incredibly excited for Halo 4. My fanboyism explodes over every multiplayer video and campaign reveal. And while I can safely say that nothing revealed (so far) has disappointed me, I am, however, slightly nervous over what could follow for the next iteration of the franchise.
I’m a bit concerned that some of the additions to Halo 4, while not implicitly bad at the moment, will open to door to more potentially drastic changes. The easiest example I can post would be of weapon skins; while I don’t particularly care if you have a BR that has tiger stripes on it, I hate the thought of seeing completely customized guns in Halo.
I know that being able to customize your character is fun, but to me one of the core appeals of Halo is that you get to play as a character that is already pretty awesome. I would prefer if we stayed at the Halo 3/Reach level of customization, but that just be me being old fashioned.
So, I’d like your opinion. Do you think these small changes have the potential to invite much larger ones? And, if so, do you particularly care?
TL;DR- Stuff is changing, which might make more stuff change
I don’t think that small changes like weapon skins will lead to larger ones like weapon accessories that change your scope, mag size, etc.
I’m sure 343i will find cool things to add while keeping Halo, Halo.
You do realise a slippery slope means jumping to a conclusion right?
> You do realise a slippery slope means jumping to a conclusion right?
A slippery slope does not mean jumping to a conclusion; it means that one action has the potential to lead to other similar (yet potentially more drastic) ones.

I’m inclined to agree; so far, I’ve been very impressed with 343i. Was just wondering if anyone else thought there might be the potential for “drama” later on

Even if they do add weapon accessories, most of them don’t effect game play all that much, the only ones that do effect gameplay is magazine sizes, under barrel attachments like grenade launchers, and shotguns, But scopes and foregrips, those don’t effect gameplay, unless you put a snipe scope on a shotgun, which is both stupid, and pointless, cause you get a close up of the person you’re shooting.
Also, I agree with Mactashiv, you seem to be jumping to convulsions and over reacting.
Plus, who are you to say what’s Halo, and what’s not? The only ones who have the right to say what’s and what’s not Halo are those who own the copy right to Halo.
As for “Potential drama” look around, Halo has always been filled with drama from day one they showed Halo CE.
So far, 343i has stuck true to what makes Halo, Halo, while still adding things to make it evolve as their own. As long as they keep this vision, and don’t stray too far off the beaten path, everything should be fine.

There will be drama, nothing you can do about that. No matter what 343 does there is always going to people who must make every little change seem like the end of the world (a la the removal of 1-50).

Sorry I’m talking in contexts of flaws in an argument

I haven’t jumped to any conclusions my friend, hence me using words like “potential” and “possibly” I was speculating, and asking for other opinions.
And who am I to say what is Halo? I’m someone that has spent hundreds of hours playing the franchise. I know what Halo is to me; it may be something different to you, which is perfectly okay. But I’m certainly allowed to voice my opinions and concerns on this public forum for a franchise that I love.
i like the idea of detailed aesthetic customization but im not ready just yet for perfomance altering AA are ok to me though. so far in the armory or whatever its called now i see just arms i hope i can alter indivdual arms still
I think that 343i is wise enough to know what sort of customizations belong in a Halo game. For example, I doubt we will ever see cat armor, nyan cat armor effects, or rocket launchers that shoot lolcats. It’s pretty evident in the direction they are taking multiplayer, a direction based in fiction, that customization options will most likely be conservative in design so as to fit within the fiction.

I didn’t think back in 2007 that things like bubble shields and radar jammers would turn into permanent abilities and perks, but look how wrong I was…

I’m still not entirely sure what you’re talking about, so I’m just gonna say “agree to disagree” and leave it at that.
Yeah, I think some changes will lead to bigger ones later down the line, but I don’t think it’ll be anything as drastic as adding weapon attachments. There’s no use for that in Halo, and I can’t see there ever being a use for it. Something like weapon skins I’m perfectly fine with. It adds a layer of customization and personalization to the game that is not harmful in any way to game balance or gameplay at all. It just makes something look different while functioning the same.

There must be more than one meaning.
Sorry to confuse you

I don’t know, with bsangel on the team? Cats everywhere.

I think you’re right, but the anime influences and that spider-man skin give me pause.

I’m hoping that your answer is exactly what happens for the future games; changes are made, but nothing overly drastic that divides the community or spoils what makes Halo, Halo.

Slippery slope is a fairly common logical fallacy. As in the claim is incorrect, regardless of what is being said because it overreacts and overexaggerates.
So yes, OP, you are making a common fallacious argument that is not correct. Sorry.
