The Skilled Player should kill the Less Skilled Player - Community Discussion

It’s amazing how many of you seem to think that bloom is a contributing factor for low-skill players outmatching high-skill players. If anything, high-skill players have become more accustomed to bloom and can compensate for it better than someone who hasn’t played all that much. Same goes for concussion rifles–if low-skill players can wipe the floor with someone because they picked it up first, it stands to reason that a high-skill player could do the same if he happened to pick it up first.

I beat higher skilled players in both Halo 2 and Halo 3 and on the flip side i got beat by ‘lesser skilled’ players in those games also, it happens.

Welp we can stop talking about Bloom now. If you watch the videos in the Halo Bulletin you’ll clearly see a Bloom-less DMR. It was a wonderful sight and I can’t wait to get my hands on that beauty. Well played 343…well played.

Not really the best course of action. I believe we can still exhibit our dissatisfaction of Bloom until the TU is released.

You know, I’m getting tired from all of this Bloom hate for 4 months now. Be happy that your gonna get to play the classic experience. While I’ll enjoy bloom, the classic playlist and the new features of the TU

If someone is smart enough to figure out how to use ‘x armor ability’ to kill you, then obviously he is the better player, since he managed to kill you.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter how much time you’ve dedicated playing the game. Your still going to get killed by a rookie.

I’m going to be curious to see how the playlists are populated once some have bloom and others don’t.

Uh, how do you enjoy bloom? You enjoy loosing kills due to a semi-limited game mechanism?

Actually, I enjoy Bloom a lot. In fact, I enjoy every new feature introduced in Reach. Why? Because I was tired of an already repetitive formula. Yes I realize it has it flaws now. But hey, TU is coming in just a few months. 343’s gonna fixing 'em and bringing new features (which I can’t wait for them to come). Who knows if they fixed the DMR bloom and made it better.
Just because I like the features doesn’t mean you have to criticize me for enjoying them.

its fine that you like it, but dont expect people who understand how it works, and think logically, to feel the same way about it.

see, bloom is an AWESOME idea. i love it to death. unfortunately for all of us, it fails 24% of the time.

maybe 24% fail rate for a mechanic works for you, but most people would rather this be 0% fail. i mean, lets face it, its infinitely better to have a mechanic that works 100% of the time rather than one that only works 76% of the time, correct?

or do you actually enjoy being spammed to death, at mid range?

I understand what you’re saying. Of course, I don’t like how its implemented right now. I think I went through the same experience. I’m just mad that people act selfishly because they think there statement is they way to go while others opinions don’t matter. I love the concept of bloom, and I hope that the TU has fixed this problem and decrease the percentage of winning the kill by spamming in medium range. So that pacing would be more effective both medium and long range.

But to scrap the whole concept and eliminate these features just to please the whiners after I payed 60 buck for it? That’s a rip off!

I’m glad that everyone shall have the option for a more classic experience. But just because one enjoys the new features and others don’t doesn’t mean that they have to hate him.

They don’t hate you, also, hate is a strong word.

They have listened to the more competitive part of the community though.

Well like I said, I’m glad that 343’s bringing new features for a more classic experience for everyone. But when I used the word “they” I was referring to the people who hate bloom and AA’s. After this weeks Halo Bulletin, almost every bloom hater started bashing even worst to the people who enjoy it.
I mean, come on. I know they’re happy, but to troll them just because they’re gonna get what they want? Its childish!

Unfortunately what happened was Bungie added a feature that didn’t really belong in Halo, that being Bloom. I’m sure people like it but for many who have been playing Halo for years (I myself since the beginning) it just felt…odd. I’m sure there are Halo fans who enjoy Bloom just fine but I think many of us would have been just as happy with Halo Reach if Bloom were never even on the table as opposed to the split that Bloom caused.

> > > At the OP: if you were really the skilled player in the scenarios you describe with bloom and Armor Lock, etc., you’d also be skilled in how those mechanics work and would win after all. For bloom, spam shots to reduce the shield then get precise once it’s 1 shot-headshot time. Armor Lock-just wait and count to about 4 or 5 seconds then throw a grenade to welcome them once they’re out of it. If a teammate of theirs shows up, just retreat, there’s no shame in that because you’re really just helping your team and yourself by not giving the opponents that kill and possible power weapon and so on. I’m sure you can think of strategic solutions for the other combat situations that are ailing you.

> So you stick a guy, and he can click a button to get out of it? Where is the skill in that? You click a button and you are saved from any weapon, vehicle or melee attack in the game? Perhaps you caught that player all by himself without any team-mates, take two seconds to shoot him (almost killing him), he drops into AL, and now his teamates have 5 seconds to get to him (which is a long time). That isn’t good at all.

> Even Frankie doesn’t like AL, does that make him a skill-less hater?

You’re leaving out the important part(s) of what Frankie said, as well as taking his quote out of context. Yes he said he doesn’t like Armor Lock, but he also went on to say that he didn’t like features of Halo 2 and 3 as well, and that he knows that just because he doesn’t like it doesn’t meant that it shouldn’t be a part of the game.

Just because something can be abused does not mean that it’s broken or game-breaking ability, the Plasma Pistol DMR/Pistol combo is something that can be abused, does that mean that it breaks the game and should be removed? No it doesn’t, that just means that it is something that can lend itself to a lot of annoyances. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Armor Lock or Bloom, or how they were implemented. Sure they could use a few tweaks as nothing is perfect, but there would be nothing at all wrong with leaving them as they are.

I personally think that Reach is the best Halo multi-player yet.

I’m not going to flame you for liking reach, but it’s the worst halo multiplayer to date.
why? because bungie has added features to the game series that was already 10 years old. we always loved the core halo gameplay, so it doesn’t make any sense to change those core gameplay aspects such as no bloom.

Armor abilities are an awesome addition to the game, but not for the multiplayer experience which we’ve always loved.

I’m just saying that they shouldn’t have added those gameplay changing features because they change TOO MUCH.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all positive about change but change should be a good thing such as faster paced gameplay, a new style of how maps are made(without excluding old styles for other maps), new armor even though they should’ve created some better chestpieces because the current one’s are all ugly to me, or new weapons (A.K.A. Pro-Pipe).

Also, we shouldn’t be forced to “adapt” to the change. that’s why I’m so happy with what 343 is doing right now.
The part of the community who like the “Classic” gameplay better can play without bloom and the part who likes bloom can stick to regular reach gameplay.

Sadly, the community is much smaller because Bungie has changed so much.

Tl;DR : change is good, if done correctly.
