Hey one and all,
So I have thoroughly enjoyed the technical preview, have found the combat very addictive, and all new weapons to a great addition especially the heatwave and the ravager.
One let down, and it worries me so much, is the sidekick. I have noticed that I often have to reload mid-fights when using the sidekick and so I wondered if it was just my lag that has my shots not counting. The time to kill seemed to be much better with the AR than it is with the pistol, coming from Halo 5 that seemed really unfamiliar and off.
And so I hopped into weapon drills to see exactly how the sidekick performs, 7 headshots are required to get the kill, or 9 body shots. That seems really ridiculous given the fact that a precision weapon should have less time to kill than an AR, especially if you are not missing headshots. Not to mention the Sidekick only has 12 bullets in one round, I wondered why I had to reload so many times mid-fights, but after finding that out, it just seems very unfair and ruins the magnum experience that I always look for in a Halo game.
Let me know your thoughts down below, and please, keep it civilized. This is discussion and so I expect different and opposing opinions, that’s why I am posting here, because I have been thinking about this ever since the preview has ended and I need your guys’s insight.

The AR SHOULD be more powerful than the pistol. Glad 343 got it right this time. Besides the pistol should be a last resort follow up weapon. Not a one man army for everything.
Don’t forget it is six body shots to break shield and one headshot, so you can spam the body then finish with a well placed shot to the dome. So you don’t have to hit all headshots.
I found myself using the Sidekick significantly more than the AR to be honest.

I did the same as you, coming from H5, it seems natural to have the sidekick out as my primary weapon. However, even the new nomenclature implies that it isn’t to be used as a primary. I found using the AR for a quick burst and then switching over to the sidekick for a quick headshot was pretty satisfying and effective. It certainly is NOT that h5 magnum that you and I are accustomed to. (though aiming to me was very difficult. Could be low frame rate, I hope)

I completely agree! In the preview I saw the bots mostly running around with the pistols getting insane headshots and only using the AR when when they run out of ammo for the pistol.
TTK is perfect. The Side kick has a faster TTK by .05. it has more range and up close requires skill.
