The shotgun used to beat a sword lunge

First up. I do like the Bulldog as a mid-tier weapon. It has a nice feel to the combat.

As for needing an old-school shotgun to defend the sword - I’m not a fan of this approach. It’s all fun and games until one side gets both the shot gun AND the sword.

I like having one clearly definied power weapon for both sides to fight over - and the winner earning a brief advantage. The two shot rockets is perfect - and maybe the sword does last a bit too long.

Counters for it should be the repulsor and sticky grenades.

So, in summary; no classic shotty, more sticky nades, make sure the repulsor is on the map, and maybe a small nerf to the sword’s battery.

Perhaps make it so it drains double when pairing the sword with the Grapple Shot or the Thruster Pack, as the two combined make you nearly unstoppable as you can sprint and use the gadget to close the gap, then combine with the sword lunge to get the kill.

I guess it comes down to how many kills winning the power weapon should open up?

The rockets ostensibly gives you two kills. A couple more if you can group them. But the enemy team should be spreading out a bit if they know you have it. So let’s say 2-3 on average.

What is the sword? Up to 10 kills. Is it roughly 10% of battery per kill? Sorry, shows how often I get my hands on it.

It probably should be 4 kills at the most.

I’m not sure you could drain the battery faster with the equipment… but you could definitely take a bit more off with the lunge.

10 kills with it is difficult to pull off, as if you have it; you are the focus of aggro from the enemy team. So if you die with it, they can pick it up and get some kills with it.

I think it should be reduced to more like 8 kills, but using equipment that SIGNIFICANTLY increases your lethality should expend more battery.

Isn’t it already reduced? It uses up like 13% per kill.

Should it be more about the map sandbox?

If you have the sword on the map - don’t have thrusters or grapple.

I think the bulldog is in a great state right now. It leaves potential for the old (and best) shotgun to be added in future seasons. Most likely when infection comes out.

They have said that all the old weapons will be added in content updates. Who knows, perhaps the mid-season fo S2 will finally add the Carbine we have been teased with for so long?

I still get two shot from the bulldog at standard BR range. I think it’s completely dependent on the level of desync in the match.

Yea this is the best compromise. Would make for some fun modes too when you can Shotgun push things around.

Agree.

Some sort of push back to break lunge.

Could also have a similar effect on thrust / grapple.

Maybe just reduce the amount of “energy” the sword has. I’ve never actually tried to work it out , but how many people can you kill with a fully charged sword?

I thought it was/used to be 10% per kill?

But @Windjammer19 has suggested it’s more like 13%.

So maybe 8 kills per sword?

Still a couple too many I think.

The Rockets, could, optimally kill 8 as well (2x overkills) - but how often are you going to get that.

10% per hit. Don’t know why it changed.

It’s okay, as long as it actually works. I’m ninety percent sure it doesn’t always fire when I pull the trigger.

Changes from Halo 5: Guardians to Halo Infinite

  • Lunges from the Energy Sword depletes ~15% of its battery as opposed to 10% in past games.

So 15% would be 7 kills… 105%

You can tell I’ve never lived long enough to drain a full battery

I have.

But getting the old shotgun back so that the sword has a counter creates another problem: the old shutgun wouldnt have a counter, since that woulld just be a one hit kill from the same distance (and contrary to the sword can already do a lil damage from outside that range).

The fact that they removed the old shotgun didn’t create a balancing issue, it just moved it from the shotgun to the energy sword. And with the addition of the repulsor i think there is more of a balance then before, although that balance from the sword is still very weak (repulsor takes more time to reload then it takes the sword carrier to close the distance created, so you need to kill him fast. wich is not always possible depending on the room and the weapons you have. And ofcourse the sword carrier can counter the repulsor by using the grapple).

Bulldog is fantastic, you’re just bad with it. It’s one of my go-to weapons period.

Ask pros. They dig it too.

Yes, for the most part it is a strong gun. I’d still take the original pump shotgun over the bulldog though.
