The game was promoted around “player first”, “no FOMO” and “no grind that burns people out”. I’m paraphrasing, but you get it.

It’s negotiation. They’ll harvest this data, “make changes”, and then sell us on a slightly less stupid model and continue to adjust it until we shut up.
