The ship that landed on Installation 04

Has there been any mention in any of the books in regards to the strange alien ship that landed on installation 04? Was it ancient human?

Do you think this will be revisited in Halo 5 or a future book? They left us with a big cliffhanger.

I want to find out as much as anybody, but this has been discussed many, many times and we won’t know anything untill 343i decides to tell us.

343i have no plans to revisit the ship.

We really need a master thread for this topic, someone makes a new one at least twice a month.

As far as I’m aware, it isn’t mentioned in any book I’ve read (although I haven’t read Mortal Dictata yet, no spoilers if you have please guys). It is unlikely to be ancient human in origin as the crash took place after the firing of the array and therefore thousands of years after humanity’s devolution by the Forerunner after the war. Added to that the fact that GS would have recognised that it was Ancient Human if it had been.

In “Conversations from the Universe”, 343 GS states:

Between the activation of the Array and the arrival of the UNSC and the Covenant, a number of space-faring species stumbled across the installation. Although they reportedly explored the facility and recorded their findings, all of these species eventually left without breaking containment.

What we CAN take from this, is the fact that this one instance was highlighted in the terminal, and it was done so for a reason. Therefore, I dare say that this isn’t the last that we’ll hear of this event.

We also know that any crew likely died before the crash and that their biology suited the Oxygen-rich atmosphere on the ring. We also think that there were seven crew onboard, as when Guilty Spark investigated the ship after the lifeforms within it are confirmed dead, there are 7 flatlining monitors.

Personally I think there’s a possibility that it could be one of the Precursor ships sent into the Milky Way full of the ‘powder’ that would later lead to the Flood, given that nobody exited the vessel and a distress signal was being transmitted, the ship arriving a lot later than the other ships for some unkown reason. But to be honest, that’s a big stretch; It’s much more likely that this is one of the many species that visited the ring between the array firing and the events of CE, and the crew (if there was one) simply didn’t the crash.

As I said however, for it to be mentioned means it bears some sort of significance we don’t yet know or understand, so keep an eye and ear open my friend.

Heck, it could even somehow be the Spirit of Fire having travelled back in time from some weird phenomenon and crashed. We simply don’t know.

I wonder if there was no outbreak on installation 04 but instead the flood that we encounter is from the ship that crashed.

The Flood we encounter on 04? That was from testing facilities that had been holding Flood long before the ship crashed.

I still wouldn’t dismiss this ship’s significance, even if we don’t get an immediate explanation anytime soon. It was included and given it’s own Terminal for a reason and I doubt it was to simply compliment the old “Conversations from the Universe” story. Even if it does, it doesn’t change the fact that visitors to the Ring is a fascinating mystery. Who were they? Where are they now? Don’t tell me that’s not worth knowing.

343i may have said they don’t have plans for it, but they said the same thing about Jun and the UNSC Spirit of… well you know.

I forgot all about that ship!!! It’s a shame it was just a tease haha.

The rings don’t go past the rim of the galaxy. Could’ve been a ship that was outside the galaxy when fired?

The galaxy is a big place. Could it be that we know only a few of the spacefaring species? I personally hope not. Maybe they can introduce some new aliens in halo ten or something but I feel like we haven’t explored the ones we have nearly enough. Here’s hoping that the mystery alien craft remains a mystery.

Based on the few images we see of ancient human ships in terminals, as well as the concept art of them, I still think it’s probably ancient human.

Though it crashed a long time after the array had fired, you have to take into account the nature of slipspace and the way it was being manipulated by Forerunners and the Flood during the peak of that campaign. This ship could have been caught in one of those fields that slowed objects in transit and had just then escaped slipspace.

Right now just take it as a throw away tidbit of information. Its a tease that they have no plan as of this moment expanding on. With billions of stars in the galaxy it is highly unlikely that there are only 7 space faring species. Could this be the first we see of a new enemy maybe but I see that being well down the line.
