The Sharquoi

Some of the truly devoted Halo fans may know about a Covenant-based (Or so-thought to be) entity (or entities) known as the Sharquoi. Very little is known about this species, and it has never been seen in any form; concept or otherwise. Quite literally, we only have 2 quotes on it:

Random Sangheili (Halo 2): “I suspect we are forcing the Humans into a tighter arena than they care to fight in - soon we may be able to use the Sharquoi.

Frank O’Connor (In response to the question, “What’s a Sharquoi?”: “Very freaking dangerous.

Now, many previous, very creative Covenant species were either scratched from the game (Keelbugs), or transformed into Flood forms (Drinols/Stalkers) after Bungie decided the Covenant was full enough. While we’ve seen concept art for some of these, and various cutesy references (The Bugger from Halo 3 that picks up the Marine on “Crow’s Nest”), there has never been one for the Sharquoi excluding that Halo 2 Sangheili.

So, despite your beliefs of how the Reclaimer Trilogy is Forerunner-centric, wouldn’t it be amazing to finally see the Sharquoi? Or even another scratched (and unused) Covenant species?

I’d definitely like to know what it’s meant to be. Back when the Skirmishers were first unveiled I thought maybe it was the Covenant term for them. The thing is, it may not be a species. It could be a weapon of some sort. I’d really like to at least know what it was meant to be.

This is exactly how I feel! It’s an exciting feeling, because the term of the Sharquoi is so mysterious. We know nothing about it, it could be anything! Now, the various Halo Wiki’s out there claim it to be a species, but we really don’t know.

As I was looking through various things scratched from the games, I also ran across the Special Purpose Snipers. They were thought to be replaced by Jackal Snipers, and probably were, but as I saw the concept art, it seemed VERY Forerunner-like. Much bonier, but the same lanky-sleek style.

maybe they look like this?

They are beasts…

Heres my proof

> maybe they look like this?

You cannot fathom how loudly I laughed! Might’ve woken the parents!
Seriously, every time I think of the name SHARQuoi, an image of an Unggoy’s mouth, attached to a Brute’s body, formulated into sleek Elite armor comes to mind.

It’s NOT a pretty picture.

…On second thought, I need a pencil and some paper. I think I’ve figured out what the new Jackals look like! >:D

I remember them talking about that on the Halo 2 collectors edition disc. There were so many cut species. My favourites are the Drinol and Trooper.

It’s fanfic…

Apologies, but that actually is not a Sharquoi. When spoken of previously by Bungie, regarding the matter of scrapped species for the games, the Sharquoi and Drinols were mentioned separately. What you have there is the Drinol. The Sharquoi does not have a designated form…

Yet.

(Not to say that Drinols aren’t awesome!..with better graphics :P)

relevant

My favorites, too! I love how the concept art on the Troopers look, especially. Many people believe what Bungie did was merge the Drinols with the Troopers, and they arrived at your common Hunter. Later, the Drinols were used to create the boss-like Flood Pure Form, the one that so many get confused with an infected Hunter.

The way I came across this again was by starting at a page of fan fiction for a Halo Wars 2 concept. I progressed to a page on the Covenant, and arrived to scrapped species. By far, and as it has been since Halo 2, the Sharquoi has been my favorite. I may have no idea what it looks like, but if it’s enough for the elites to consider it a more powerful weapon/adversary than themselves, it’s got to be badYoink!!

Oh wait, I’m thinking of the Drinol.

And they got turned into the stalker form of Flood? Uhh. Aren’t the stalkers those gangly, crawly little freaks? And the Drinol hulking cycloptic giants? Confus.

I wonder how they would help change up gameplay? I guess we don’t even know what they look like, so…

Careful, it’s a lot to take in.

The common Flood:

There’s the annoying Flood form, the small one. (With the tentacles)
There’s the really annoying Flood form, the fat one. (Egg-head)
There’s the Proto/Gravemind, the big giant mass. (With the BIG tentacles)
There’s the infected life forms. (…)

Then there’s the pure forms:

The crawling thing, resembling the concept for the “Stalker”. (Mr. I-Can-Go-Anywhere)
The REALLY ANNOYING TURRET THING. (RAGE)
Then the big Hunter-like hulk Flood, resembling the concept for the Drinol. (You know, the strong one…(with the tentacles))
