I was having a conversation with a friend about all the issues him and I have with Halo 5’s campaign, then I finally remembered this line from the Arbiter to Locke: “The seeds of our future are sown in his past.”
Remember that cool teaser from E3 2014
Was that line from the Arbiter ever even explained or expanded upon? I honestly can’t think of any part of Halo 5 where that line is relevant. Did I miss something in the game? What was Arbiter trying to say to Locke?
EDIT: Maybe it has something to do with Blue Team and Osiris teaming up to stop Cortana? Locke does mention he became a Spartan (or at least is still alive) because of Chief, and then there’s the close bond between Chief and Blue Team. Also, Cortana’s feelings for Chief may have some impact on her actions in the future? All those things come from things in Chief’s past, whether it was where he was or what he did. Could that be it?
Well, if anyone’s going to figure out how to stop Cortana, whose power has a pretty direct effect on ‘our future’ it’s going to be Chief. Not only because he’s Chief and because plot, but because he’s got a history with Cortana. He’s the most likely to either be able to actually talk her down, or seeing as that really didn’t work in H5, find her weak spot and stop her. Him knowing Cortana and finding the hole in her armor would be the ‘seeds sown in his past’, as in the relationship he’s invested with Cortana.
I could be totally wrong. I just came up with this now. But I really do think it’s referring to Cortana in some capacity, even if I’ve got some of the details wrong.
No mate you missed nothing. No need to go deep into it. It was all false advertising and false hype to sell a half baked game. Hunt the truth, halo escalation, the EU regarding the UR didact and more, are ignored by this game. Worst campaign to date. Gameplay and maps were OK, Sanghelios was amazing, but that’s it.

I liked it. Could be better, and relies to heavily on outside fiction, but I really don’t think it’s as bad as everyone on these forums thinks. Minority opinion for sure.

It does not rely at all on outside fiction. You clearly have not read any of it. If you have, then you would be disappointed too. "Minority opinion " keep saying that if it makes you feel comfortable by all means, I’m sure others who are into the EU share similar views to me.

I’m not even into the EU and I can tell you that it was an awful story.

I have read some but not all, and it’s certainly allowed me to appreciate the game more than some others who have not. There are those who are into the EU that hate the game, like yourself, and, as I said, many people on these forums, but there are those who like the EU and are fine with this game, like myself. Funny thing, everyone’s got different opinions. Why would I be uncomfortable with my own? What on earth were you even getting at with that ‘if it makes you feel comfortable’ comment?

Definitely agree. The story felt weak, rushed, and sloppily put together, and it basically rendered the ending of Halo 4 (which set up endless possibilities for the direction of the story) pointless. Add in all the lies about how Chief was going to go on a journey of self-discovery and question his past and future missions and more, and you have a game that did not live up to all the great advertising and teasing in any way

Way to make assumptions there buddy, I don’t hate the game. It was extremely disappointing considering the EU and hunt the truth had a better story going on. Hell, the trailers had a better story than the game. That’s not hating, that criticising and stating facts.

Indeed. Very cliche. Robots vs humans feel to it. This created vs Creator thing came out of nowhere. Cortana should not even control the domain, that
should have been the UR didact, which some speculated was master chief. Oh yes, watch halo followers vid on it, very strong evidence.

Indeed, agree here. Campaign felt like an afterthought, it takes like 4-5 hours on normal, and around 10-18 on legendary if you are not a noob.

Speaking of the Domain, let’s also not forget that the Domain basically has a mind and motives of its own. Why would it just let Cortana in and give her full control over everything? And if she has access to literally all of the Forerunners’ history, then she would know how much the Librarian and her Lifeworkers put into ensuring Humanity would claim the Mantle and would not say that she and her AI army (also makes no sense, AIs don’t hate us in Halo) should claim the Mantle instead
Also, the Warden, at this point, is basically a useless character that is good for nothing more than a boss fight here and there (an overused boss fight IMO), and the Guardians literally serve no purpose in the story than just to make the name of the game make sense. They don’t really have any importance at all. It doesn’t even make sense that the Didact went to Earth and did not go to Genesis and access the Domain to activate the Guardians. Surely he knew of their existence since he was the leader of the Forerunner military. Wasn’t the Domain supposed to be down and destroyed from the Halos anyway? How was the Didact unable to connect to it in Halo 4, but Cortana has no issue connecting to it after she goes through the portal?

Indeed, from memory, as I only repeated the campaign 2-3 times, the only reason they gave for her controlling the domain, over what was built on in the EU, was that she was created. That’s it. I wish they built on chief at least from halo 4, the special gift that the librarian gave him. What happened to all the ONI stuff? What happened to the civil unrest in the outer colonies? So much missed potential. Teasers and trailers aside, they missed a lot of story here, that cannot be denied.
Everything you stated makes sense, the story doesn’t fit right with everything else we know about halo. It feels like they retconned a lot of things.
A lot of stuff was said about Halo 5’s story that wasn’t true or had little relevance. Cortana and Chief only knew each other for a few months, hardly a seed down in his past, so that suggestion sounds off to me.

For me, when Arbiter said seeds in his past, it echoed what the librarian said in Halo 4, that’s she planted seeds of evolution or something, I don’t exactly remember. They really should have built on that, instead of a cliche generic storyline.

Which is also funny how none of what happened in Halo 4 mattered. Chief’s vision of Cortana could have been built up as the Librarian’s changes bubbling up, but it is never explained how it happens.
