"The Seeds of our Future are Sown in his Past."
This is what the Arbiter said to Locke in the 2014 Halo MCC/Halo 5 trailer. It was also printed on the back cover of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
However, now that we’ve played Halo 5, what exactly do you think 343i were referring to?
You could argue that the game wasn’t completely developed yet, and they went with a different story line in 2015. I accept this for the 2013 trailer with Chief walking through the desert, however the game was surely near-completion (at least, the campaign story-line) toward the end of 2014.
Do you think they’re referring to Cortana? They must be, surely. Perhaps more specifically, they’re referring to the Activation Index of the first Halo ring that Cortana still has. And perhaps this is where Halo 6 will take us? Trying to stop Cortana from activating a new Halo ring?
However, I’d love to hear your theories. I personally thought it meant the Chief was the reincarnation of the Iso-Didact, but that seems unlikely too.
Well one thing people haven’t really been talking about that I think is very important is when the Warden Eternal says something to Chief along the lines of “I know who you were before you were 117”. I can’t remember the exact line. Anyway that line I think lends some more credit to the Iso-Didact theory and ties into the whole past thing.

Ah I missed that! Interesting. Perhaps that will be the big reveal in Halo 6?
I get the line of thought… But I don’t really see John being the reincarnation of the Didact. Why not of Forthencho (lord of admirals HUMAN) or another prominent ancient human.
Honestly I thought he was just referring to chief’ childhood.

This video kinda gives the biggest reason as to why people think it’s possible Chief holds the geas of Iso-Didact. But, hey, that’s just a theory! A game theory!! Thanks for watching!
