In the description for the new trailer it says the MC is being scanned looking for his weakness.
When it looks back over the MC life and shows him as a boy and some lady calling him who I presume is his mother, but then it shoots to cortona in place of the mother.
Is it possible that MC actually looks to Cortona as a mother figure!?!?
Good possibility, I mean he has had no one else for most of his life, I’m sure any female figure looking over him could be seen as a mother figure, Hasley included

I agree with you. After playing halo CE through Halo 3, and also some cutscenes of halo 4. I wouldn’t be surprised. Cortana always seemed to be a mother figure, and like you said, including Halsey. Good call.
I assumed that woman was Halsey as it cuts to Cortana who is essentially Halsey in AI form. It makes sense that that was his mother though.
It’s stated somewhere that all of the Spartans saw Halsey as a mother-figure. It’s even shown during Halo: Reach when Jorge meets her. His body language and speech indicate that she is some sort of mother-figure to him. So as Cortana is essentially Halsey’s mind turned into an AI, it would make sense for John to look up to her too. The juxtaposition of those scenes was quite cleverly done.
I figured that was showing that Cortana is Chief’s weakness. 343 want to show his humanity, maybe the Didact uses Cortana as a bargaining tool to force Chief to act.

Never thought of Halsey very well could, but only thing is John was playing on beach sort of calm no stress just ordinary child playing with toys. But accordding to the books wasn’t like that at all once the kids were taking they spent there hole time traing or learning to defend for themselves and fight for food.

ya meant to add that to my op but was in work didn’t want to get cought using pc and rushed it
> I know I’m probably alone in this, but I think the Didact is checking for his own imprint.
Are you talking about Geas? Its been hinted at that someone like the chief have had geas put into their lineage by the librarian. Is that something a warrior class forerunner such as the Didact could look for? I know 343GS talked about reading the Chiefs GEAs in the anniversary terminals. Interesting point

This seems very likely.

Yes, all Spartans look at Halsey as a mother-figure.
However, the woman in the trailer has black hair. Halsey has blonde. So I’m assuming the woman in the trailer is John’s mother. And PhilMag38 looks to be spot on.
Regarding geas and imprints, I think that’s exactly what’s going on. The following two images were taken from The Flood. The part shown is where the Master Chief encounters the controls to the light bridge in the second level.
That has to be a geas, there is no other way to explain it. Didn’t the same sort of things happen to Chakas and Riser in Cryptum? Maybe they didn’t quite know what they were doing at the time exactly, but Bungie/343i had to be setting this whole thing up from the start. Only way to explain something like John knowing how to use Forerunner technology, or rather, being compelled to know how to use it.
This could also explain why Spark called John a Forerunner. Maybe he was detecting his Geas? In the Halo CEA Terminals, the Pillar of Autumn one, Spark needed to verify the presence and the pitch of his Geas.

Can anyone determine the three numbers given to the women before the procedure? I swear it sounds like 0-1-8. However 018 is Kirk (Male). It leads me to think that the number is 019 - Serin Osman of ONI (From Halo:Grasslands/Thursday War) previously Spartan-019.

Fascinating take!
I really hope Geas are explained in greater detail in Silentium. We’ve seen very little hard evidence of it, and unless I’m mistaken it’s all in Primordium. One must wonder… if Geas are so prevalent and strong, what role would hey have had in the development of someone so unique as Halsey?
