Why can we not remain with one model of Sangheili throughout the Halo games? Their appearance in Reach (Reference.) was fine. However, in Halo 4, it seemed as if the Sangheili all obtained genital wort wort worts. Did 343i give them a horrendous appearance just so we could have a reason to put those poor beings out of their misery? I miss their rather smooth skin and whatnot; why not revert back to a different version instead of “improving” their looks once more?
The difference in the Sangheili’s appearance was due to how these particular Sangheili aren’t from Sangheilios, but Hesduros instead.
When a species is consolidated into a separate area, the species slowly changes in appearance to adapt to the area. That’s what happened at Hesduros. The Sangheili lived there for enough time to see slight evolutionary changes.

I don’t think the Sangheili on Hesduros were separated long enough for there to be distinct evolutionary differences. With humans, I believe it takes roughly 50 generations for there to be a noticeable visible evolutionary difference, and even then, it’s nothing too too major. I doubt the Sangheili on Hesduros were gone for quite that long, especially since they knew about the Human-Covenant war.
Sure, Elites may possibly adapt and evolve faster than humans, but it would probably still take thousands of years for the visual difference to be quite as drastic as it is from Halo 4 to Bungie’s games.
Also, what about Jul? He doesn’t come from Hesduros, yet he looks like every other Elite in the game.
