In my mind, he didn’t die, he just has a Chips Dubbo type deal.
The one thing I don’t agree with when it comes to 343i and Halo is that they have a tendancy to kill off characters in media outside of video games or drop them completely. The Rookie and the Didact being prime examples.
Yeah, but at the very least it was well written.
What’s wrong with putting their fate into the books/comics? I think that makes a ton of sense, honestly.
It’s a character that people want to know what happened to, but they don’t have time to put it into a mainline game (imagine them shoehorning the Rookie into Halo 4 and having him composed just so you see his death in the game - that’s pointless).
At least there’s some bit of character closure. Even if they put their demise in the games, people would still deny it (see - Noble 6 in Reach).

I agree with you about the Rookie. But the Didact was like, the big bad guy, the main villain of Halo 4 and they just closed his story in the comics. Imagine if they killed Thanos in the comics instead of the movies!
…bad analogy but you get what I mean.

Really, they should’ve just confirmed he was dead in Halo 4 instead of whatever “slipspace portal nonsense etc” that happened.
I really miss the Rookie, I thought he was gunna be the main character of possible Spin-Off series of ODST games :c
The Regular-Joe’s Master Chief. Then I find out he died in a -Yoinking!- comic!!!
-Yoink!- it!
Sometimes it pays, to be the strong-silent type!
