Now I’m going to talk about the rise of a new face of Halo and the reason why he will be it!

JEROME-092

Q: Why? Master Chiefs perfectly fine as a main character!
A: Simply because (not in terms of gameplay, but lore) hes getting old, Halo needs a new, quirky face.

This face can be Jerome as…

  • In terms of lore, hes much much younger and physically able. - Hes got a funny Spartan Team, which could lead to some retro 1 liners, or even a “Battlefield Bad Company” feel to any games he featured in.

> Alice: “Do we have a plan?”
> Jerome: “We do. Jerome to Spirit of Fire Actual…Sir. Requesting danger close. On our location, trailing north. Commence five seconds.”
> Alice: “Interesting plan.”

  • The simple similarities, Chief jumps from orbit? So does Jerome! - The AI in his head seems more like the fun H2 Cortana - The fact he has an AI in his head (LIKE THE MASTER CHIEF) - > - > - > Isabelle: "The grav lift! What do we do?"Jerome: “You? You hold on…”
    > >
    > > Decimus: "Human filth. Do you know what you have cost me? My salvage operation, the portals.“Jerome: “My heart bleeds.””

Note, I really did muck up on that quote bit, and spent like 10 min trying to fix it, then did it again because I’m a bit of a -Yoink!-, so I left it.

I’m not convinced we need a singular viewpoint after Master Chief leaves the series, if or when it happens. ODST, Reach, and Halo 5 (even with all it’s problems,) show that you can do the team style approach and it might be best for the the series instead of trying to force a new Master Chief styled character. Especially if 343i is intent on keeping the team aspect up for co-op reasons. Then again, you could use that aspect until you start seeing a fan favorite and star pushing in that way organically.

That said, I think I’d rather see another member of Blue Team step up assuming the next Halo finds a way to magically fix the horrid plot points H5 forced on us.

You forgetting the entirety of Chief’s team?
Yes, lets skip right over Fred, Kelly, and Linda, all of whom saw as much combat as Chief (more even if you count the events that they did while Chief was floating in cryo), and probably have different view points, not to mention much deeper characterization than Jerome.

Pushing aside the S-IIs for a bit, what about the IIIs? We have plenty of good focus points there too.

I actually find Jerome to be an incredibly likeable character, just from his interactions with Isabel. John is so old and experienced that he almost works like a machine, but even with his Spartan conditioning his young age means Jerome is less jaded and more fun.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, in the novels Blue team were incredibly well characterised. But 343 absolutely mangled them in Halo 5, so I don’t know how I feel about them getting focused on.

I could see this easily. Jerome and Isabel (especially in the Carrier cutscene) really reminded me of Chief and Cortana.
I’d like to see members of Blue Team too, but the simple fact is that Jerome has been given more in-game characterisation. Not everyone has read the books.
