The revival of invasion

One of the best things about invasion was that it had a narrative to it. It meshed campaign and multiplayer into one game mode, that had its own maps and a crap load of objectives. This allowed us to create any scenario we wanted as to why Spartans were fighting the elites, or vice versa, and it would work because the game mode had a lot of room due to the humans vs aliens nature of the game.

343 said at the GDC, that they wanted to get campaign players to play the multiplayer, well invasion was the perfect gametype for that, and it wouldn’t have needed any changing because it worked so well. I think that 343 needs to bring it back, bigger than before. It needs more players, like 8v8 or maybe even 12v12. Of course maps would also need to accommodate this. Maybe even space battles can be introduced, then we have an all new type of dynamic to the game, that invasion would really benefit from.

Invasion not only was reachs best gametype, but it was one of the best things to happen to forge. In forge we really only build play spaces. What invasion did to forge, was create a whole new way to create those play spaces. When I’m forging an invasion map, I’m creating barriers that need to be brought down, bases that need to be secured, doors that need to be blown up. The amount of creativity that went into making invasion maps was unprecedented, and one of reachs best qualities.

Invasion brought so many things to the table, that it was stupid for 343 to have left it out. I want invasion to return, and I know others who share my opinion.

I think in Halo 5 we’ll have a very updated variant of Invasion.

Invasion > Spartan Ops

I LOVED Invasion. It was my favorite gametype in Reach. In fact, I hate Reach, but I do go back to it every once in a while just to play Invasion.

I was severely upset when I found out that Invasion would not be in Halo 4 (even though Kiki Wolfkill herself said “Invasion is now a part of Halo” when asked if the gametype would be brought back…).

Just imagine Invasion with Dominion pieces. Defensive Auto Turrets, team-based Vehicles so they can’t be stolen by the enemy team on spawn, etc… Would be freaking amazing.

As for the “map issues”, don’t make any on-disk maps specifically designed for Invasion. Just use Forge for Invasion.

Invasion was brilliant, and one of my all-time favorite Halo playlists.

I sorely missed it in Halo 4, although Dominion was a decent, if not entirely similar, substitute.

I sincerely hope it makes a return in Halo 5. 343 should remake Halo 3’s High Ground as an excellent classic map with great Invasion potential.

Here is my “revival” of invasion from my thread, never got much traction though.

The pelican must fly to a certain LZ whether it be at a certain altitude or across the entire map at back at spawn or enemy spawn. And it doesn’t have to be limited to pelicans maybe its switched up with you taking a mammoth or its the elites attacking and they get dropped a scarab. Its limitless.

I think we can all agree that invasion has the most potential out of any halo gametype to date.

Invasion introduced many cool forging tricks and potential, it meshed campaign and multiplayer together, it pit 2 teams, Elites and Spartans against one another, promoted teamwork greatly, and was overall massive fun. I feel that they removed it in favour for Dominion, however, it was too different for anyone to thoroughly enjoy it like Invasion.

Other gametypes I would like to mention as great but removed are:
Headhunter
Territories(probably removed for Extraction)
Race
MLG
Infection(Flood actually is a de-evolution, much less freedom)

I had mixed feelings about head hunter. Territories is an ancestor of extraction. They both play very similar to each other. Race is actually coming back, but with halo 4s maps, I doubt it will be as fun, but it should be pretty good. Mlg is team throwdown, they use the same settings. I agree with what you said about flood.

invasion is my favorite gametype i really hope it makes a return in all future halo titles

There was really no need to scrap it. I guess 343 wanted its own invasion like game type, but dominion is more of a counterpart rather than a replacement.

I loved the rhythm of battle that invasion gave us. I missed it greatly in 4. I really hope it makes a return if not I am always up to play reach my tag is Mr McHugE I love invasion it was the game I always wanted in Halo.

Maybe they could put bots to guard the spawns so no one spawn camps the Attackers or to help hold off the defenders.

and maybe instead of a territory to capture maybe a shield generator to destroy, or anti air that needs to be destroyed or a giant wall to blow up. or a building to break into.

there are so many interesting things you can do with this game type I would hate to see 343I overlook a game that has so much to offer.

I did not know at the time that Race would come back…
Territories and Extraction are NOT the same. So much more could be done with territories, especially in customs!
Well, Team throwdown needs some more tuning though, not to mention that this should have been there on launch!

i know that, I saw venture bros. xD lol but what he means I brought back the life to this discussion? I guess I did, its only coz I missed invasion in Halo 4.

Idk about you guys but I want it back. we need to like maybe sign a online document we all sign or a physical one xD. or we could always kidnap members of 343Ind. hold them hostage until invasion returns!!!
