The return of classic movement mechanics?

Fair enough. That being said, I was mostly talking about the launch window. The relevant metric would have been the playerbase in the first several months compared to one another, not the remaining fans several years later. Hell, even H5G isn’t in the top 50 most of the time.

Halo 5 for me had the best MP for me simply because it felt fast, it added depth with verticality, created new player interactions (eg. side dashing an rushing enemy then deciding to clamber and take the high ground and pop them or quickly ground pound them to oblivion or jumping over head then back dashing then popping them in the face plus many more), and it was more immersive.

Doom Eternal mixes so much speed, verticality, level interaction, different ways to kill enemies by applying some of the best parts of past games (Metroid, Halo, Unreal, Quake, etc), I just can’t go backward.

It has no sprint for example, yet it feels fast and fluid. Much of what makes Doom Eternal’s gameplay so fun, wouldn’t have been possible if it had sprint. The same goes for Halo. The “depth” argument for Halo 5’s advanced movement mechanics has been debunked several times in this thread, and by Youtubers such as Favyn.

Maybe being able to crawl under obstacles would be cool as well, like going through vents or debris. You could also have the weapons take a little longer to draw when you’re prone

i think people were just more willing to give h4 a chance after bungies success. h4 damaged h5’s interest plus it launched on a newish and less adopted console at the time.

this is the best source youre going to get about doom. In early 2017 a year after its release, doom is still nowhere to be seen. Microsoft Store - Top Charts

If we’re able to so easily separate Halo 5’s Campaign and Multiplayer with two different opinions, why can’t the same be done for DOOM 2016?

you can but we’re talking about multiplayer and how sprint “ruins” it.

But are you going to say that the lack of sprint “ruined” DOOM 2016’s multiplayer?

If you’re not, then what’s the point of trying to bring up the quality of DOOM’s multiplayer specifically or the population playing it?

no, im saying high bms is a mediocre starting mechanic for dooms or halos weapons in pvp.

there are plenty of good games without sprint, its all about balance.

So back to my previous comment, why try to bring down DOOM by up it’s multiplayer and the population? If the multiplayer is bad for “sprint” or “BMS” reasons, that’s a claim you’re going to have to back up.

There is a “bad game” with sprint - hence Halo 4, there is a “bad game” without sprint - hence DOOM 2016, and there are good games both with and without sprint.

Wouldn’t the most logical conclusion be that sprint does not make a significant difference on whether a game becomes popular or unpopular?

because i am adding dooms and halo’s weapons into the equation. They are not fun with high bms. if halo had dooms base movement speed it would also be a chaotic mess like doom. Then to fix it, you would have lower halos ttk to make it fun. What you are left with then is a game that plays nothing like classic halo.

Halo 4 and 5 certainly didn’t solve the issue dooms speed in halo would work just fine

Implying there was an issue to begin with.

h4 and h5, as bad as they are, would be even worse with dooms bms. h4 and h5 still have a little of the classic halo formula in them. halos sprint balance problem was fixed in halo 5 but they added even worse problems like thrusting.

Sprint adds problems and fans like you continue to scramble for solutions that will never fully work, yet BMS has zero issues and fits Halo’s combat loop

its possible to add sprint onto standard bms and have 0 issues. Not only that, it can make the game more fun when you add things like infinites slide.

No, its not. You have to adjust everything on the map to ensure that players don’t reach certain points before they’re supposed to. Why do you think all the Power Weapons in Arena multiplayer are on 30 second respawn timers at the start of the match? Or that maps in Halo 5 feel so much larger than maps in prior Halo games?

> No, its not. You have to adjust everything on the map to ensure that players don’t reach certain points before they’re supposed to. Why do you think all the Power Weapons in Arena multiplayer are on 30 second respawn timers at the start of the match? Or that maps in Halo 5 feel so much larger than maps in prior Halo games?

same reason they put markers on them. To help new players.

are maps actually larger? the problem with classic maps is that some where ridiculously small like heretic.

is the rig smaller than the pit stop from halo 3?

don’t need markers if the map is straight forward, and it’s common knowledge classic maps play far better than any of the new ones

Then to fix it, you would have lower halos ttk to make it fun. What you are left with then is a game that plays nothing like classic halo.

Why do you think all the Power Weapons in Arena multiplayer are on 30 second respawn timers at the start of the match? Or that maps in Halo 5 feel so much larger than maps in prior Halo games?

thanks to thruster and lazar weapons
