Anyone else happy to see GySgt Buck again… I loved playing ODST so it’s nice to have a familiar face on the Osiris team… Although I’m not a big fan of him being a Spartan now… Ok ok I get it they figured out a better way to make everyone into Spartans reliably but to me it has diluted the “eliteness” of the Spartans. Now everyone and their mother is a Spartan… and I miss the ODST aspect that there was still and elite special forces of “regular” nonaugmented humans that could handle their own and drop in some awesome drop pods… Imagine joining the UNSC and be one of the few that don’t qualify for the new Spartan program when just about everyone else does… Everyone gets to get augmented into Demi-gods and you get stuck in the motor pool lol…In the end though glad to see that Buck it still kicking Covie -Yoink-!
No. Everyone and their mother is a Spartan “IV”. Big difference.
There’s only 4 of the OG Spartans … that’s what they said, right? What happened to Naomi?
Buck was my Reach Fire Fight voice.
“BAM, said the la-dee!”
“Violence is definitely ensuing!”
“Big green shiny thing comin’ right up next to my face!”
Good times.

Sorry I didn’t specify it… Figured anyone that followed the franchise would understand what I was getting at… But that’s my point exactly everyone and their mother is a Spartan now… granted most are IVs and not so many IIs kicking about but that was my point they have diluted the “eliteness” in more then one way. First would be that they had to dial back the augmentation process to achieve a higher rate of success and second they flooded the ranks with Spartans.

I don’t think it has diluted the “eliteness” at all. You have to be accepted into the Spartan IV program, and to be accepted you essentially have to be a 1 in 10,000 type of soldier. Same thing goes for the ODSTs, you have to prove that you belong and there are plenty more ODSTs than Spartan IVs.
There are about 500 active Spartan IVs, in reality, there are around 900 US Navy SEALs. I don’t think the SEALs have lost any “wow factor” due to those numbers, do you? ha ha
It’s more or less they’ve mostly just rolled the ODST over into Spartan IVs now with Palmer and the Buck and his team (except for Dutch who had enough and retired)… And to me the SEALs and Spartans don’t compare… Because to me the ODST are suppose to be the SEALs of the UNSC the (non-augmented) special forces operators… So that made the Spartans like not even on the same scale and when it was just the IIs they became like legend and tales told by other soldiers as they would pop up do their mission and fade away and leave a lasting impression of shock and awe at what those that saw them had witnessed.

Plenty of ODSTs were unable to become Spartan IVs. Also, I wasn’t literally comparing the SEALs and Spartans, I was just insinuating that the most elite fighting force on the planet hasn’t lost its “eliteness” due to its “large” numbers. Just as the most elite fighting force in the galaxy (Spartans) haven’t lost their “eliteness” due to numbers either.
Although, I guess this is a more opinionated topic, so roll with your own flow.

True it is up to everyone’s opinion in the end… I just guess I just see it as if you want to say ok we have these super elite soldiers the Spartans… Now lets go ahead and lower the standard of the Spartan program because we can get more people to pass/survive the process yes they are faster, smarter, stronger then the non-augmented “elite” or SpecOp humans but they are still below the standard of the original Spartan II program… In the SEAL comparison it would be like lowering the entry requirements and physical standards… the reason why there are so many today is because of need for more SEALs do to the change in mission focus after 9/11 they didn’t change the standards to become SEALs they just made more billets available and so in the end they increased their numbers without sacrificing their standards…So the Spartan IV program essentially “lowered the bar.” so you get quantity over quality. I get why they did it… It just took too long to make Spartan IIs and they where loosing a war but I guess that’s just why it kind of sucks now because just seems an over saturation of these super soldier that use to be a rare sight to see.
Either way it will be fun to play as Buck again and I’m glad to see that from what I can tell a type of ODST-ish armor set should be in Halo 5 Multiplayer… I def will be equipping that set
