The Reinvention of Competitive Halo

What is Halo really known for? Competitive Halo used to be king but with games like Starcraft and LOL taking Halo down as king of the Competitive scene we need some new ideas. So what was Halo originaly known for, It was known for wide open enviorment with multiple ways to attack your enemies. It was known for its slick combat with tight close combat and wide open vehicle combat.

So how do we make watching Halo more enjoyable to watch its quite simple. We add 8 v 8 to competitive Halo. Sounds really stupid doesnt it, but in truth Halo has always been known for it wide open fun battles. In the past few weeks the most played Halo 4 playlist has been Big team IS. Know I don’t mean just all together dump 4 v 4 Halo cause lets be honest not many 8v8 teams would be able to make it to AGL tourneys.

Know lets talk about a very important factor witch is view count. Have you ever watched a BTB game with vehicles everywhere people getting dropped by snipers randomly lots of room to make awesome plays. BTB Halo is the most popular of the bunch to most people it is way more fun to watch Then just 4v4 Halo. People would rather see the full Halo sandbox than just ground warfare whats more enjoyable to watch 4 people calling out and making small clutch plays or a mantis on mantis fight where one team loses its mantis and the team has to all work together to take down the vehicle.

It is just a Idea and we do need to keep 4v4 Halo so more teams will attend but please take a chance There is a few A symetrical BTB maps we could use just try BTB Halo in 1 tourney and see the Views it racks up. Thanks for your Time

Please tell me how run events and stream 8 v 8?

> What is Halo really known for?

For destroying all life on a galactic scale.

Hahaha.
Fine then 8v8 promethean slayer hows that??

I’ll thank for the first paragraph, but the problem with ranked fps is that more than replayability, it’s also watcheability. It must have a meta and gameplay a random viewer can relate to, along with aspects of strategy, tactics, and gunfair to keep the stream interesting.

The most you could hope for at the higher levels is a 5v5. 6 players per team is too restrictive, and they need to be recognizeable to both the competitive and casual community. Moreover, a succesful tournament is going to need gameplay mechanics that offer variety. As stipulated above, that includes tactics, strategy and gunfair, and as is, Halo slayer has only the former.

While gunfair can be achieved either by keeping the ordanance system or offering pro teams larger maps and more vehicles, the strategy or meta for halo is lackluster at best. It includes running around and killing people you think you can kill, and capturing a flag when you can. Beyond that, the games are pitifully short, and they have only one objective, so to sit through an entire session either means I’m keenly interested in becoming better myself, or I have a very dull expanse of time to flitter away. It’s just not as exciting as watching a starcraft or League of legends stream where I can not only relate to what’s going on, but I can easily define where the game is at, who’s winning, and why they’re winning.

To conclude, as a hypothetical scenario, the only way I see halo becoming entertaining at the pro level is if they keep armor abilities (only better ballanced) add more variety to the sandbox with, if they absolutely must, ADS, and using a LoL style goal in a 6v6 with communication between players audable at some level. Admitadly, I feel this is where 343i has set themselves up to go, but maintaining AAs at a pro level would be a chronic pain, and ADS would have to be used very selectively. Compound that with the controversy over the halo 4 mishap, and it’s a recipe for disaster, and so it’ll never happen.

The pros still make the game look good. It also discourages players who understand what they’re doing because we just aren’t as good. I played 2 or 3 games of ffa with a few pros in reach, one was actually on youtube. I was thoroughly decimated but hey, I helped ninja (didn’t realize it wasn’t another poser ninja gt) get a few multikills by being in his sightlines. It was incredibly frustrating as I was sticking to what normally worked fine for me, and they just know better.

There is no marketing that I’ve ever noticed for watching pro halo. That’s just sad, cause you can do it free online. And streaming the games is as simple as picking a player. Sometimes I’d rather watch football from a qb helmet cam, other times the running back. Truth is it’s long overdue to have a spectator mode in halo. Until then, the fact that it’s easily the best contemporary fps on console is going to be wholly overlooked.

Actually bigteambattle.net is slowly growing more and more popular, they’ve also begun streaming their matches, videos and the like via twitch.tv and are currently preparing for their second tournament, the Spring Challenge, in which the victors will win $1000 in prize money.

Seriously guys, if you get a chance, check it out, they’re always accepting new teams and players.
