The reason Reach failed and h4 may too.

I have two controllers at home.

  1. The right joystick barely works. I can’t really aim with it.

  2. The LB doesn’t work. I can’t use AAs.

I play with controller 1. It is more detrimental to not be able to use the abilities then it is to NOT BE ABLE TO AIM. This is a first person SHOOTER we are talking about. Reach put so much emphasis on powers that it overshadowed the shooting. This is a HUGE issue. The kind of issue that drops you to #7 on the XBL activity charts.

H4 not only looks to continue this trend but make it even more prevalent with even more power usage. Why? Why overshadow the shooting in your first person SHOOTER?

What does your controller have to do with the success of Halo 4 or Reach.

I disagree, the powers does not overshadow the shooting. What do you do the majority of the time to kill? You shoot. You physically do most of the work to get the kill, not your AA. It all comes down to your gun. My gun gets me a kill the majority of the time in Reach. I don’t see where you’re coming at…

I would help you set everyone straight, but they can only take things at face value.

It’s why they can’t wrap their heads around the implications of gimmicks such as perks, ordinance drops, and starting AAs.

“Yeah! I want to see through walls!”
“What affect might it have on gameplay?”
“Who cares! I can see through walls!”

All I heard was:

My controllers are broken.
AA’s in Reach were overpowered.

  1. Get a new controller. They DO break down eventually. I have gone through 2 Razer Onza TE Controllers. And 3 regular controllers.

  2. As long as H4 AA’s augment current abilities… they’ll do fine.

exactly, AA don’t kill anybody; your gun does.

The power of Halo is too strong for our tiny controllers, a new type of controller must be made. The Forerunner Controller! Judging on how much the Forerunners have evolved with technology. These controllers should be able to harness the magnificent power of Halo.

not the games fault your controller is broken. they build the control layouts based on a fully functioning controller. go buy a new one. if you can’t i guess your screwed. but don’t blame the game. thats just stupid.

Im pretty sure OP means that not being able to use AAs is worse then not being able to aim correctly in Reach; to which I counter with I barely use AAs and when I do its mainly sprint and yet I can still so pretty good in most of my games.

Good god.

It’s a metaphor!!!

This is why we can’t have intelligent discussions on this forum . . .

Lol what’s wrong with using metaphors. They can work sometimes.

OP needs to word things better and Gunslinger really needs to work on his humour more.

Nothing.

Except the community as a whole can only take things at face value apparently.

“Buy a new controller! I think yours are broken!”

It’s really not funny. It concerns me for not just the Halo community. But upcoming generations as a whole.

Don’t get me started - I’d get banned.

I’m not going to say I agree with him, because frankly I don’t, but it’s sad to see how many slow people that responded “Get a new controller then!” and probably felt really smart about it.

Honestly, I don’t believe that he has any broken controllers and even if he did, that’s not the point. He used the “broken controllers” analogy to reinforce his point, which is that Armour Abilities are actually more important than your ability to aim your weapons.

I agree that if that was the case, the game’s integrity would be in trouble, but I don’t believe that is the case. Though, I do recognize the importance of choosing the right AA for the right gametype/map.

What is this i dont even

I was pretty surprised that only three people really saw the point of this topic. As TTU Gunslinger, Selected Path0, and Jochon said, this is about AA’s being overpowered in Reach and that their return in Halo 4 will be its doom.

I respectfully disagree with this, as no armor ability alone could grant a kill on another player and only Armor Lock could get a kill on a vehicle. Actually shooting opponents is and will continue to be the core of Halo multiplayer.

Shooting had been overshadowed by grenades and meleeing since the beginning. AA and the equipment in H3 merely added to the mix.

And H4 is using alternatives for less exploitible AAs. The new shield doesnt last long, jet pack has been replaced by the teleporting thruster pack, hologram is hologram, AL and DS are gone. And the sandbox is bigger, allowing useto multiple weapons for people instead of a single god tier weapon like the BR and DMR

I would like to know how you judge failure…

Halo Reach was and is pretty damn successful.

Judged by the success of Halo 3, 2 and CE it was a failure.
